Chapter 3: Freshmen Year

“Ugh,” Rose groaned as he reached out from under the cover for her phone. “I’m going to physically murder him for blowing me up this early in the morning.” She said to no one but the empty room as she hit the answer button. She wasn’t even able to get a word out before Abel came through from the other end. “Wakey Wakey Cupcakey!” “Abel, do you have any idea what freaking time it is, and on a Saturday of all days.” “It’s our last Saturday before our Highschool journey begins Rose. Get up and get dressed. We have to go shopping.” “Dude, just because we signed up to transfer to the human school does not mean that we have to go all out,” “Would you listen to yourself, that’s exactly what it means. Now get up and get dressed. I’ll pick you up in exactly one hour.” “Yeah, yeah,” she said through a yawn. “One hour Rose,” he all but yelled through the phone before she hung up.           Throwing the covers off, she groggily rolled out of bed and headed to her bathroom to shower.  She shucked off her pjs, stepped into the shower sighing as the hot water hit her body. After shaving, washing her hair, and body she stepped out of the shower wrapping a towel around her. She turned on her music and started rummaging through her closet. She chose a pair of blue jean shorts, black tank, red and black plaid flannel, and a pair of red converses to complete the look. She was finishing her makeup when her phone began to ring. Looking at the screen she saw it was Abel calling. She pulled the towel off her hair, quickly running her fingers through her curls allowing her hair to fall down her back. Her fiery red hair was nearly to her butt. Taking one last look in the mirror she grabbed her phone texting him she was coming down, before throwing it into her bag and heading out the door. She stopped at the kitchen on the first floor to grab an apple.           “Have you ever heard of sleeping in,” she asked as she climbed into Abel’s truck. “And miss this beautiful morning,” he smirked. “Whatever you say,” as she closed the door. Abel smirked even more as he put the truck into gear and headed towards the main road. “I’m just saying what better place than the mall to prepare for the next four years of school with humans.” “Is it the experience or the girls your after?” she asked sarcastically. Abel grabbed his heart dramatically looking at her hurt. “That was cold Rose, so cold.” Laughing she punched him in the arm, “because we both know why any of you Male-Wolves choose to go the human school.” “And why is that all knowing one.” “Human girls are easy,” she said flatly. Feeling a small part of jealousy at the thought of Abel with a human girl, Rose dropped the conversation hooking her phone up to the radio and hitting play on their favorite playlist. The rest of the ride to mall was spent singing along to some of their favorite songs, and Abel laughing when she forgot the words and tried to wing it.           It was nearly ten that evening, when Abel dropped her back off at the packhouse. She tried to creep by her father’s office to the elevator to head to the fifth floor which was reserved for the Alpha, Luna, and their children. But his office door was open before the elevator doors. “Does your phone not work?” he asked. “I didn’t realize it was on silent.” “Hmmm, I see. I suppose it also didn’t cross your mind to contact your mother or myself to inform us of what you were doing?” “I’m sorry I got caught up hanging out with Abel.” “Why am I not surprised that he was somehow involved.” “You are aware that you are not sixteen yet. There is to be no traveling outside of the pack unless to and from school until then. If you need to leave then you are to be accompanied by a warrior.” “We just went to the mall to shop for school clothes.” “I don’t care if you went to feed the starving humans. Rules are rules Rose. They are there for your protection, as well as the protection of all the other pups in this pack. Do you have any idea what could become of this pack if I allowed all the pups here to run freely?” “It won’t happen again, okay.” The Alpha pinched the bridge of his nose clearly frustrated, “It’s late get to bed. You are expected to appear at brunch with the pack tomorrow. You will attend service tomorrow night.” “Yes, sir.” “And Rose, don’t forget there is a meeting Monday at nine am with all the pups approved to transfer to the human school. Tuesday is the first day of school. Failure to attend the meeting is an immediate revoke in application.” “Yes, father.” Once in the elevator she pulled out her phone to see a message from Abel.   You make it in okay?                                                      Nope, busted nearly as soon as I hit the door Damn, your dad has to have gps on you                                                            Im sur if u asked him he would call it parental instinct or some wolf shit What are you doing tomorrow                                                                                                                                      Bein a good lil pup So I guess that means family brunch, courtyard watching over the young pups during the meeting, and service                                                                                                                   In that order. Will do cupcake        You seriously hav got 2 stop callin me that Lol Night Rose                   Rose tossed her phone on her nightstand and rolled over falling into a deep sleep.       She awoke to find herself standing in the woods of the Southern Border. “Hello?” she called. She was answered by the cry of a child. She circled around looking for the source of the crying. The cry came again in the distance. She began to run in the direction of the cry, calling out to the child. “Stay where you are, I’m coming.” The closer she got the louder the cries were. She saw a young boy sitting with his face buried in his knees. She knelt down in front of him touching his shoulder. “Are you okay? Are you hurt? She asked. The young boy looked up at her, only it was no longer a young boy. It was Abel. Rose jerked awake panting. Feeling the covers beneath her fingers she realized she was still in bed. It had been just a dream. She fell back on her pillow still breathing hard. Her heart felt as if it was nearly pounding out of her chest. She laid staring at her ceiling. The light peaking through her curtains told her it was early morning. It was an hour or more before she finally found sleep again.           Roselin awoke to a hard knock on her door. Tripping in her covers she hit the floor with a loud thud. “Are you okay?” her father asked cracking open the door. “Oh, you know nothing starts the day better than someone banging on your door like there’s a fire, and you nearly breaking your neck trying to escape it.” She responded sarcastically. “Brunch is in ten minutes,” he said as he closed the door. Untangling herself from her covers, she quickly got dressed and headed down to the dining hall of the first floor to join the pack for brunch. The rest of the day passed by uneventful. After brunch she joined the rest of the volunteers in the courtyard to watch over the small pups, while the pack had its weekly meeting. She was not positive, but she was quite sure she was the only wolf who did not actually volunteer. Matters like these were expected of the Alpha’s daughter. When she was excused from her duties, she met up with Abel to hang out until dinner was served. Abel held true to his word after dinner they headed to service with him reminding her that she owed him a coffee the whole walk.            Monday morning, she jumped out of bed, and hopped in the shower. After getting dressed she headed down the hall to kitchen. The sweet smell of Margie’s pancakes filled her nostrils as she entered. Margie was the Alpha’s family’s private cook, and the best cook in the world in Rose”s opinion. A quarter ‘til nine she excused herself from the breakfast table to grab her bag from her room before heading down to her father’s office. (Six pups had been approved to attend the human school. Herself, Abel, a she-wolf named Kaitlyn and three other male wolves Jeff and Chris, and James.) She walked into her father’s office to see that she was the last one to arrive. Of course, the others would have arrived early, until they turned sixteen, she was the only one who lived in the pack house. (Pups lived at home with their parents until they reached the age of sixteen. When a Lycan turned the age of sixteen their wolf would become aware of their mate. They would move into the packhouse, once they found their mate they could move into a home of their own with the blessing of the Alpha. However, Alpha Daniel did not give his blessing to any wolf until they had finished their education unlike the Alphas before him.) She took a seat beside Abel. Daniel cleared his throat before he began, “As you are all aware for the past 12 years, we have allowed a handful of pups out of the 20 to 40 who apply to attend high school with the humans, at the human school. However, need I remind you this is a privilege to those approved not a right. While all of your applications have been approved, they can be revoked at any time if it is deemed that you or the pack may be in danger by your attendance. We will first begin by passing around the rules for each of you to read and then sign in agreement, followed by your schedules. While you review these items, please feel free to ask any questions. The following is a contract of behavior for all pups      attending school with any non-Lycan forms ·         All pups are to meet in front of the packhouse unless approved by the alpha for transportation. (No freshmen will be allowed their own transportation when leaving the pack territory) ·         All pups will refrain from any wolf like behavior while off the pack’s territory. ·         No humans are allowed on the territory property. ·         All pups must maintain a gpa of at least a 3.0 at all times. ·         No pups are to mate with a human unless that pup has reached the age of sixteen and the human is its mate gifted by the moon goddess. ·         Any assignments assigned that require meeting up outside of the school must be presented to the alpha at once. So that arrangements may be made. ·         Pups are not to tell anyone that they are a lycan and or prove so by shifting in anyway.   Failure to follow these rules will result in their application being immediately revoked. As well as depending on the crime of which they commit the offending pup may face more dire punishment.   Kaitlyn of the blood moon pack                              Kaitlyn of the Blood Moon Pack jeffery of the blood moon pack                                Jeffery of the Blood Moon Pack James of the blood moon pack                               james of the Blood Moon Pack Christopher of the blood moon pack                              Christopher of The Blood Moon Pack Abel of the blood moon pack                                             Abel of the Blood Moon Pack Roselin of the blood moon pack                                       Roselin of the Blood Moon Pack         Everyone read of the rules signing their name to the contract one by one. Then they were each handed their schedules. She was relieved to see that her and Abel had a few classes together. She had no idea what it would be like attending school with the humans, but she was positive that with Abel she could handle what ever came her way. After all they had been best friends since the fourth grade. The pair knew each other like the back of their hands. “Has everyone finished looking over the schedule?” Daniel asked. They all nodded in syn of one another. “Good if no one has any questions,” Everyone looked at each other to see if someone was going to speak. “Very well I’ll go ahead and wrap things up. Our pack has come a long way to be able to provide this opportunity to pups who have been deemed exceptional by their teachers, peers, and myself. I hope you all understand the honor you have been given. Tomorrow when you walk through those school doors, I hope you will not only carry yourselves with pride and dignity but behave in a manner that will do the pack proud. I wish the six of you good luck in joining the eleven wolves already attending. Please be aware that they also will have high expectations of you. Since they too have not only been honored with attending the school but have been able to progress in the school. If they can do it. I know the six of you can as well. I will let you all get to enjoying your day but remember you all are to arrive here at the packhouse in the morning. Transportation leaves no later than eight am.” With that everyone headed out to their own separate activities.       The following morning Roselin awoke with knots in her stomach. She had never been so nervous in her life. “Hey cupcake! You awake?” Abel called as he knocked on the door. “Yeah,” she called back as she rummaged in her closet. Abel swung open her door coming in and flopping on her bed. “You know just because you stayed over doesn’t mean you can just barge in my room,” she exclaimed as she headed into the bathroom to get dressed. She had chosen blue jeans, a blank tank, a black and seafoam flannel shirt, and a pair of seafoam converse. She decided to skip a full face of makeup choosing only eyeliner and mascara to make her eyes pop even more than they already did. “Dude if you don’t put some pep into it, we’re going to be late its seven-fifty already. She threw her hair up into a messy bun. “How do I look?” she asked stepping out of the bathroom. “Like a human girl,” Abel responded sarcastically as he stood. “No can we go before you get us booted from the program before we even have a chance to start.” She grabbed her bag and they headed out the door. Everyone was waiting for them as they walked outside one minute ‘til eight. Everyone climbed into the large escalade her father had provided with a warrior to drive them to school.           They pulled up to the school roughly twenty minutes later. Roselin stood staring at the large building in front of her. She could not believe that they were about to not only walk in but attend school at the Human’s school. No classes about shifting or the history of the Lycan kind. Just plain ordinary human classes. She grabbed Abel’s arm just to be sure she wasn’t dreaming of this moment. “Are you going to continue to eye f**k the school, or are we going to go in?” he asked sarcasticly. She shoulder punched him laughing, “Let’s do this.” She made it to her first class just as the bell rang. The first day of school was a bit hectic. She constantly found herself getting lost or confused as to where she was supposed to be. Luckily, it seemed like several of the human freshmen were having the same troubles. When the final bell rang, she headed out to meet Abel and the others in the front of the building. When she arrived at the others, she saw that Abel was not with them. She began to scan the crowd looking for him. She found him leaned up against the side of the building locking lips with a human girl. She had to fight a growl as jealousy surged through her. “Why the hell was she so damn jealous. Abel was her friend. He had been for years.” Her thoughts were interrupted as Chris called out that he saw the village escalade, careful not to mention pack. Jess turned to see it approaching. “Damn it, if they saw Abel, he would be kicked out of the program.” She rushed over to Abel, “Abel, our ride is here!” she blurted. He quickly pulled away from the girl. Rose tried to hide her disgust by quickly looking at ground. “We need to be going. You know how our, um, parents are if they have to wait on us.” He looked at the girl, “Catch you later, Stacey.” He winked before heading towards her group. Everyone climbed in the vehicle like they had done that morning. Soon all six of them had gotten into the swing of things. Abel was practically with a new girl every week. Rose still got jealous for some reason that even she did not understand. But as time progressed, she learned not only to manage it but also completely hide it. Jeffery was the only one who was removed from the program due to his grades slipping to a 2.7 GPA. Before anyone realized it the school year had come and gone. It was once again summer. No more classes or random girls. The two best friends were once again inseparable. Rose knew that they would soon return to school, and Abel would be preoccupied with the sea of women the human world had to offer, but until it was just the two of them. Sleep overs, pizza, and movie nights for the next two months.
