Prologue
The Moon Goddess looked down at the beings walking amongst the Earth in Awe. “God, what are these creatures you have created?” she asked curiously. “They are my children, created in the image of myself,” He responded. Moon looked on with a sense of longing. “But they all look different.” “Yes, each is a form of how I see myself. Now get some rest Moon, it shall be interesting to see what becomes of them.” Sadly, as hard as she tried; she could not rest. Her thoughts kept drifting to the interesting beings God had created. “Someone is restless,” Lucifer spoke. Moon sighed, “I want children in my own image.” “Unfortunately, my dear Moon you can not have that.” Moon sighed again, “I guess somethings are just not meant to be. Who am I to question the way things are.” “Yes, who are we, but mere servants to a higher power.” A smirk toying at the corner of his mouth, and mischief dancing in his eyes, “I perhaps may know a way for you to have what you so dearly crave.” Her eyes widened, “Lucifer, you must tell me if you do. Please, I beg of you.” “Careful, young Moon. I wouldn’t want you to fall short of your Idol,” He teased. “I wouldn’t call a selfish being, who keeps secrets to maintain control, an Idol.” She scoffed, “If he truly wanted to create something magnificent, He would have created all of them in images of each of us.” Smiling, “If this is something you truly desire. Then who am I to deny you.”
Lucifer pulled moon into his embrace, easing her down on to her back. Nuzzling her neck, he breathed into her ear. “My dear, I wish I could say I won’t find the pain you’re going to find the experience, pleasurable; but then I would be lying.” She threw her hand to her mouth to stifle the scream threatening to escape, as Lucifer bed her. The pain itself was excruciating. Lucifer was brutally rough, not even allowing her to catch her breath. When he was finally done, he stood looking down at her quivering body, as the tears flowed freely from her eyes. “You’ll thank me soon enough,” he smirked. He then left her alone, unable to even begin to comprehend what had even happen.
It was not long at all before Moon discovered, she was carrying her first child. She found the ordeal only leaving her with more questions than answers. She would sit alone, watching the creatures on Earth, whom God had begun to call Humans. Many times, finding herself lost in her own thoughts. “Is this how God created his children? Surely, not. Why had she been so foolish? Why did she listen to Lucifer? What was she to do? How would she keep this from God?” Before long Moon found herself giving birth. Born nothing of the image of which she saw herself. This child was born with a strange craving, a craving for blood. She knew immediately that God would not approve at all. He would not approve of the events that had taken place, or of the child it had produced. He would deem the child an abomination. There was only one thing she could do. She named the child Dracula and hid him amongst the Humans on Earth.
Determined she must have done something wrong. She sought out Lucifer to try again. Once again Lucifer, bedded her. The pain was still unbearable, but she for bid her body to shake or the tears to fall. It was not long before Moon birthed her second son Merlin. While Merlin looked human, he sadly was not. He wielded a magic in like, but not near as powerful as God. Devastated, that yet once again she had failed to create an image of herself that was human. She set out to hide the child on Earth amongst the Humans in hopes that God would not notice. She called upon Lucifer, yet again. Her third child Gildor was born. Like Dracula and Merlin, he was not Human. Gildor was born Elven. She did not understand. None of these images were of her. Moon became pregnant with a fourth child. The pregnancy itself was eerily calm. She prayed that this be the child, she had craved for so long. Labor came quick and swift like a thief in the night. She did not have time to hide, where she could birth the child without being at risk of being caught. Her screams were piercing, no matter how hard she tried to stifle them. Fighting back another scream she heard him. “Moon?” “Please, don’t come near me,” she sobbed, but she was too late. “What have you done?” he asked peering down at the child in her arms. “I’m so sorry. I’m so so sorry. Please, I beg of you. Please don’t kill her,” She pleaded between sobs. “How many more?” He asked coldly. She looked down, her hair falling over her face. He body shaking with each sob. “How many more, Moon.” He commanded an answer. “Three,” She gasped unable to refuse his command. “Why?” She sat in silence. “Why, Moon?” “Why are you allowed images in your own image? Why are we not allowed the same?” She burst through a sudden rage of anger. He sighed, “Moon, like I created you and the sun. I created the Humans in the image of my spirit. What you have done is far more complex than that. You have created images in form of you and another by blood. They are only part you.” God sighed, “Hide the child with the others if you must. Once you have returned, I will deliver your punishment. Lucifer has already received his.” “What became of him?” she tried to keep her voice steady not to show her fear. “Banishment, where he can no longer bring harm with his mischievous behavior. Now go before I lose my moment of mercy,” he declared.
Moon left for earth to hide her baby girl. The child seemed human, but there was something there. Something hidden in her soul. As she felt the dew wet grass on her felt, the child let out her first cry. The cry resembled that of the creatures God called Wolves. There was what was hiding beneath the surface of the emerald, green eyes, and fiery red hair. Her beautiful baby girl carried the spirit of wolf. She held the child a moment longer, softly placing a kiss on her forehead. She knew once she returned to God, she would never be able to return to any of her children. As the Sun began to rise, she reluctantly bid her daughter of whom she had come to call Red a final goodbye.
“You’ve returned?” “Indeed, I have,” she responded. “Do you understand your crimes?” “In a sense, I believe it to be of simply being naive.” “All things that rest in the Heaven Sky must remain pure at heart. You have broken this by allowing another to bed with you. By doing so creating life not once, but four times. For that matter you leave me no choice but to choose a punishment of which I see fit of the crime you have committed.” Moon felt her body began to shift, changing shape and form. Her skin began to harden like that of rock. Her punishment had been decided, no Trial or Jury necessary for he was all of that and more. One last tear slid from her eye, as she came to rest in the night sky slowly rotating around the earth. Condemned to watch it from afar for the rest of eternity. When the time came, and her children needed her the most they would call her spirit forward.
For thousands of years, she watched as her children grow, mate with humans and form children of their own. The world began to change, Continents began to shift. The Great Land Mass was now broken into several. Amongst the Humans fear of the creatures who looked human also began to grow. Some Humans began to band together calling themselves Hunters. They would travel in pursuit of the ones they called devils and demons. The Hunters forced Moon’s children and descendants into hiding, no longer able to live peacefully amongst the humans. Tensions began to grow amongst her children, as the began to argue over land. Each claiming the land to be their territory, and all others to be trespassers. These events lead to what as known as the Great War. Dracula, Merlin, Gildor, and Red all lead their descendants head on into war amongst each other. For thirty days and thirty nights the war raged on. Lycans, Elves, Warlocks, and Vampires tangled in a battle to the death.
On the 30th day just before midnight a scream pierced the night. Dracula, Gildor, and Merlin immediately fell to their knees grasping their hearts. The air became calm, but a strange presence could be felt. One by one each creature was forced to its knees. Standing in the center of all those kneeling a beautiful woman in a white gown, with soft brown curls flowing down her back. A woman none had ever met, but all felt drawn to her. To her, and the light surrounding her. She stood weeping with a fallen Red in her arms. Blood seeped from Red’s chest; she had been stabbed through the heart during battle.
Moon stood holding her dying child, her only daughter. She could stop this. She could once again give her life, but this is the way things must be. This was not her plan, but his. She knew this all to well, and to go against him would only cause more agony and trouble. This was the start of something much bigger, this she was sure of. She spoke to the Lycans, “To me she was known as something much dearer, but to you she will be remembered as a great Warrior and Queen. Take her body and lay it to rest beneath the Great Willow Tree of the land you were born. This will be the land you will flourish on. Your kind will grow in strength and knowledge. When the time comes, another Queen will be born.” She then spoke to Dracula, “Take your people to the land called Transylvania. There you will be known as a King, and they will flourish and grow. Sadly, you will meet your own demise. You will die in a fire, just like the fire you fueled behind this wretched war.” She turned and spoke to Gildor, “Take your people to the Northern Forest. There you will be declared King, and your people will live in peace for the generations to come. As for you, you will live in fear, for like a thief in the night a man will draw his sword and plunge it into your heart, like your child has done here today.” Last she spoke to Merlin, “Take your people and live amongst the humans. There you can mate with them, to ensure the survival of your bloodline. Your people will survive and find peace. You, however, they will deem insane and burn you in front of surrounding onlookers.”
The three found themselves compelled to follow the orders given to them by the mysterious woman. They each lead their people down the path, that had been laid out for them. Dracula settled in a castle on the Northern border of Transylvania. He was declared King of the Vampires. Where he in turn immediately, announced his son Draco to be his successor. His people flourished, but the town just south of his castle did not trust him. They suspected him to be that of what the stories called a Devil of the night. A group of towns people banded together, storming the castle in the dead of the night. They dragged him from his quarters, forcing him to lay in a coffin in the courtyard, nailing and chaining it shut; before they set it ablaze. Gildor guided his people into the Northern Forest. They lived in peace, living off the land. Gildor quickly forgot the words of the woman in white. Preoccupied with being a peaceful King and guiding his people in their newfound way. One night, like that of many he sat on his thrown lost in thought. Unaware that his eldest son had grown weary of waiting for his father to step down; so that he could take the crown. Like a thief in the night his son entered the thrown room and plunged a sword into his heart. Merlin led his people as travelers, through the neighboring towns. Each town a few people would choose to remain, and the rest would travel on to the next. Merlin reached the final town alone. Word had spread of the traveler, believed to be a man of the Devil. He was arrested, charged with conspiring with demons. The townsmen burned him at the stake.
The Lycans buried their beloved Queen beneath the willow tree. They built a village, established laws and chose 4 members of whom would be known as the Elders. The Elders were blessed by the Moon, believed to have direct contact with the Moon Goddess herself. It would be their duty to uphold not only the laws but pass down the exact knowledge of their history to their successors to prevent fact from becoming lore. The next 50 years every female born to the Lycan bloodline would be presented to the Elders in hope that she would be the new Queen. After half a century they began to lose hope of what the mysterious woman had told them. Life went on. New villages were formed, leaders were decided. The new leaders would become to be known as Alphas. No longer would they answer to the Elders as individuals. All would answer by chain of command. The Alpha’s would answer to the Elders, they alone would have communication between the land. To ensure that no village would be placed above another, the Elders were to no longer reside in a village. Instead, they would reside in the mountains that overlooked the land. The villages themselves would become known as packs. The Lycans divided into five packs: The Diamond Pack, The Bloodmoon Pack, Crescent Moon Pack, The New Moon Pack, and The Full Moon Pack. For the next two-hundred years the packs would live in peace. The story of the mysterious woman becoming nothing more than a children’s story to all but the Elders.
