10: Foes

Lizzy became distant to Nathan, no matter what he did to make her forgive him, she paid no heed to his plead. She believes he betrayed her trust for a stranger.

And the hatred she has for Aliyah, flamed everything more. The way Aliyah always clings on him ever since he had announced about their relationship, made everything bitter for Lizzy.

She prefer her brother being single, she never believes in Aliyah for some reasons known to her. Hence, she promised to dig more about her and her pack members, maybe her foster brother is missing a thing.

Today is the engagement ceremony, and she has a proposal for them. She knew it might sound crazy to everyone but she wants to do it because of her people. Without her brother, she will be the one in his shoe and she won’t want anything bad to happen to her people.

She walked around her room, dresses were scattered on the bed. She was having a hard time to choose what to wear. Most of the dresses she has are revealing and she doesn’t want to get an earful from Nathan, he will be nagging at her for the whole night, she knows.

But wait, who said she can’t annoy him any little bit? They said it takes two to tango, so she can also play the game. She will pay no heed to his warnings that night and do what she feels like. Because she is an adult, no almost an adult. In three months, she will have her coming of age ceremony and also be able to find her mate but she has dreams, dreams that is not sure about them hence she buried it in her heart.

She picked up a black knee length dress that has a slit at the back end, the neck hung below revealing some of her cleavage. The arm was tied as a bow and the dress hugged her body pretty much well. 

She combed her hair down and pick her bag. She slides in her high heels before looking at herself in the mirror. She admire her beauty, she needs no one needs to tell her how beautiful she looks that night because the mirror already did the justices. 

But it won’t hurt getting complements about her dressing from someone different. She would love it more because she believes attraction is everything to her.

She walked out of her room bumping into her personal maid. She smiled at the girl that is almost the same age as her before she dragged her hands to the party.

The party theme was white but she went against the rules and she cares about nothing, besides she is not happy with the reunion. She believes Nathan should at least wait for a while for his mate before he gets mated to her. 

What if he mates her now and his mate comes out of nowhere, what will happen to the poor lady? How would she feel about it?

The moment she entered the ball room, all eyes turned to face her. She could hear whispers coming from their mouths but she pays no heed to them. Instead she walks down to where her brother was standing with his so called fiancé receiving guest.

Her face held a fake smile, it hurts from smiling that much but she had to. She won’t let them get the expression that she is against their union or she is up on something. If they know, her plans will fail.

“Congratulations.” She said, passing Aliyah a medium sized box tied. “No, you get to open it when you are alone.” She said again, seeing that Aliyah was tryin to open the gift box in front of everyone.

“Thank you Lizzy. We really appreciate it.” Aliyah thanked her, as she watched them smile at each other, she thought about her plans.

If her foster father will agree to it, then she has no problem with that. “What are you wearing Lizzy?” Nathan finally spoke. 

All that while he was eyeing her from head to toe, he couldn’t utter a word but now he got his voice.  “What do you think of it?”She twirled a little giving him a better view.

“What do I think of it? Are you in your right mind Lizzy? Why on earth will you wear something so revealing?” He questioned with anger laced in his voice.

“Last time I checked, your opinion matters no more. I have the right to do whatever I wish to and you have no say in it because you are not father either are you mana. So hold your opinion to yourself or tell them to your soon to be wife.” She snarled, leaving them.

She was boiling with anger. “Allow her to calm down. I think she woke up on the wrong side today” she heard Aliyah telling him. She had to control herself from telling Aliyah off .

Snatching a wine glass from the waitress, she hurriedly gulped it down when she saw no one was looking at her. Her father made a rule for her, that she is not supposed to have anything to do with Alcohol until her coming of age, then she can do what she wants.

But this is not the first time she’d sneakily take alcohol, thank God she is not a heavy drinker. A cup is enough for her to feel high and at the same time, she will be in her normal way.

“What are you doing here? And why are you wearing black when I clearly told you to wear a white dress?” She heard her mother’s voice blooming.

Her fear was that she didn’t see her taking the alcohol or she will get the worst of her life that night, not to talk of how she spoke to her elder brother. If he was to report her, then she would definitely be grounded by their father but she hates that. 

“I could not find a proper white dress and beside you know I prefer wearing a black dress.” She replied.

“Okay but why do you smell weird?” Her mother asked, sniffing the dress.

She hurriedly shifted back. “Oh that, I accidentally bumped into a waiter and his drinks splashed on me. Even after cleaning, I still smell like it.” She exclaimed. 

Her mother only nodded at her before she left her to meet her friends. The party has begun and now she walked up to the stage where her brother and his fiancé were standing.

She collected the mic from the priest holding it. “Hey, I know everyone is wondering why I am here right? Well I have something important to say.

I know this is a union and it will surely make our pack stronger but don’t you think we are making a mistake?  The girls coming of age is three months away and Nathan is likely to meet his mate during that time, then why should he marry and mate with the Luna of the kings pack?

Imagine your daughter or your sister being his mate, imagine the pain she will go through knowing her mate is with someone else and has no intention of being with her because he is already married? I for once have nothing against this reunion but it doesn’t seems right to me. 

It doesn’t make sense to some of you but it did to me. So now it is up to you to decide and whatever you choose, then remember the arrow always strikes the target. Thank you.” She smirked passing the mic to the priest.

The room was silent, everyone was thinking deeply about what she said. Indeed she is right but who can stop the Alpha from what he wants to do? No one could, not even the priest except his parents.

“I believe the young Luna said the truth and due to what she said, I can’t carry on with the ceremony. I am sorry to say this but it is better to continue after the girls coming of age, that’s if your mate doesn’t want you.” The priest ended leaving the ball room.

Lizzy held a smirk on her face all the time the priest was talking. She was happy that the priest took her advice.

If looks could kill then she would have been six feet below with the way Aliyah was shooting daggers at her. She bowed a little before leaving the ball room.

Nathan followed her behind. “Stop right there Elizabeth.” His voice roared in the hall way. She ignored it and continued to walking to the garden but he kept following her.

“I said stop” he gritted. “What? What do you want from me?” She snarled.

“No I want to know what is wrong with you? Are you this way? What is making you change?” He asked softly.

She scoffed. “You want to know why? I changed from the way I was with you since the day you choosed her over me. And I will continue this way. Now, I believe you have a party to resume to, don’t keep the queen mother waiting .” Without waiting for his reply, she left to her room.

Her solace in the house.
