The lights growing brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun, and now the orchestra is playing yellow cocktail music, and the opera of voices pitches a key higher.
Laughter is easier minute by minute, spilled with prodigality, tipped out at a cheerful word.
Well wishers came and more Alphas from different packs house came to celebrate Nathan’s coming of age. When he was told the Alpha was organizing one of the biggest coming of age for him, he never believed. But now he had to, his face was hurting from grinning too much while his hands are tired of shaking.
The Alpha made his stayed by his side so that it will be easy for him to receive the guests and well, introduce him to them. “Ah, welcome.” His father said, hugging a man of almost his age. Behind was his wife and maybe his daughter or someone related to the man but Nathan doesn’t care about it.
“Nathan boy, this is Alpha Sebastian and also the Alpha to the moon pack. Sebastian, this is my son.” He introduced and Nathan showed his gestures by bowing a little before taking in his hands for a shake.
Nathan flashed a smile to the people behind the Alpha and let his eyes wonder around the party. He has not seen Lizzy since the party started, which means either she is not there yet or she is somewhere around the corner.
Either way, he has to find out but with him stranded with his father, he doubts about leaving at that moment. He watched as his father indulged himself in a conversation with the Alpha of the moon pack while his wife left for the lunas squad leaving him with the lady standing.
He watched as she nervously twisted her fingers, bitting her inner lips. He wonder why he was not attracted to it while he is always attracted to the smallest things Lizzy does.
“I am Abigail but you can call me Abby, daughter to the Alpha of the moon.” The petite lady introduced and Nathan nodded his head at her.
“Nathan.” He finally said, sipping his drink. He wasn’t meant to drink anything stronger than an apple juice or the ceremony taking place later fails.
“Of course, I know who you are. The girls in my school always talk about you and I didn’t believe what they have been saying but now, I really do. No lies in their word.” Abby flirted.
He smiled, he knew what news goes around about him. His sister always keeps him updated. And he doesn’t care about what ever they say about him, as long as they don’t spread fake news about him, then they are all good to go.
“That is nice to know. Thank you for letting me know.” He faked a smile. He’d already quoted that she is the talking type and they never get tired. “If you could excuse me, I have something important to attend to.” He ended spotting Lizzy walking down the stairs.
Lizzy was wearing a black, off shoulders mini corset dress, that hugged her curves in the right places, with a thigh high split that showcased her tan skin. Nathan cursed under his breath making his way to her, earning a grasp from Abby.
“What are you wearing?” He gritted, pointing at her attire.
“What? I was not the one that picked it beside and I love it too.” She replied twirling a little.
He sighed heavily. He doesn’t want to say anything that might offend her or his parents. Today is meant to be a happy day from them, a day he will take over the pack house and know what it feels like to be a leader.
“You are too young to wear something as revealing as this. This..” he stopped eyeing the dress once more. “It is not made for your type. It made you look somehow.” He ended and she glared at him.
“But the lad there said he likes it and that I look breathtaking in it plus mother likes it.” She informed him happily.
His eyes followed her hands as she pointed at the man that said those words to her, making a mental note to have a talk with him about his sister later. Nobody has the right to talk to her in a seductive way or manner, she is too young for that.
“Follow me.” He didn’t wait for her replies before he dragged her towards the lunas squad. He made sure to greet each an every one of them before motioning for his mother.
“Mother, why did you allow her to dress like this? This is too revealing and some perverts has already started showing interest in her. This is not good really.” He informed her.
The Luna stayed, lost at word. Her son was trying to point something to her, something that her fashion sense blocked. Now her poor daughter is getting unnecessary attention of the perverts present at the party.
“She likes it and it was my mistake to choose that one. She will stay at the table with me till the end of the ceremony but now, you need to calm down because the passing ceremony is starting soon.” She said in a calm voice, stroking his hair.
He nodded but not before sending a glare to Lizzy and she snuck her tongue out at him. “Childish behavior.” He muttered grinning.
He moved back to where his father was standing now. True to his mother’s word, the passing ceremony is almost starting. The moon is almost full and the guard wolves were already howling.
He won’t say he is scared because he has once been to a passing ceremony and he knows how it was done but he was anxious, anxious of what could go wrong or what if something bad happens?
Pushing back the thoughts, he gulped down his drink and passed the glass cup to the server passing by him. “Thank you.” He had told a beta from another pack that complimented his suit.
The passing down ceremony was starting and he was ushered to the alter. “My son, there is something we call a trap monster and it is more than a thought demons. They trap us in our dreams, the ceremony has to do with you going through a dream and if you defeat the trap monsters, you are good to go and you will claim the right of being the new Alpha but if you fail to fight them off in less than an hour, you will be forced back to the surface but you will not inherit the tittle but rather it will be passed down to your sister. So you know what to do.” The Alpha briefly told him.
He felt his stomach falling into a pit of worries, no one ever told him about the trap monsters, what if he couldn’t fight them off? What will be of him? Will he be a failure to family? And a disgrace to the pack?
“Don’t overthink it, just relax.” His father shouted after him.
He flashed the crowd a short smile as he was made to kneel facing them. The holy water was poured in him and the priest went on murmuring some holy words.
He felt the world tightening around him, his light slowing fading and his sight slowly slipping from his eyes. He opened his eyes in a new environment, the place stinks and the skull of the dead warriors flying around.
He gagged. The sight alone was killing him already as he felt his kneels growing weaker but for his family, he need to be more than strong.
A dust stood ahead of him, he heard voices trying to trap him. He wasn’t having that, if he wasn’t warned beforehand by his father then he would have given in to them.
“You think you could defeat us with a mere thought, we are stronger than you think and we can do easily kill you.” The voice said again.
He fell to his knees, it felt as if he was forced to do things his mind never wanted to do. “Put your right hand in the box and try removing it.” The voice uttered and a box became visible to his naked eyes.
“If you successfully remove the hand, you will killed instantly by this pin. It contains the most dangerous poison, with a stink on the skin it kills instantly.” The voice added.
Nathan slowly pushed his hand into the box, ignoring the pain he was feeling. It felt as if he was being burnt alive, while he watch.
He growled loudly, his body was starting to react to the pain but remembering his family, he swallowed the pain, acting strong.
The pain finally stopped and his hand were released from the box. “If you had not endured the pain of the box, then you would have been death by now because the power you possessed is too much. Go back to your world and ruled the human right.” The voice faded at the end and the light went black.
