Chapter 5 THREE YEARS LATER STELLA’S POV Finding a job in my neighborhood is not that A B C D easy. I have tried most interviews and I was part of those shortlisted but after the interview, I didn’t find the job, well they didn’t call me to tell me that I should report to work.   Today, this is the final interview I was going to. Well if I don’t find the job, screw it. I will just create my own job.   I wore a black dress that was decent enough and paired it with nude stilettos. I ensured all my credentials were kept in a brown office envelope before I stuffed it in my Gucci bag.   Pulling my hair into a tight high Pony Tail, I skipped downstairs my over sensitive nose catching the tantalizing scent of bacon. My stomach gave a loud growl that could have been easily mistaken for rumbling of thunder.   “Please hurry up or else you will be late for the interview,” My mother jested once I walked into the kitchen.   “Morning to you mother. I still have twenty minutes. I will only take 5 minutes maximum for breakfast and I will drive there in the next 10 minutes. See mother, I will have 5 spare minutes to wait for the onset of the interview.” I defended myself.   “Okay, I know I will never win you arguments,” She said in a low tone.   “This is not an argument,” I frowned.   “Come on, eat up. You have three minutes and thirty seconds,” She said after serving me breakfast.   “Thanks mum,” I said and stuffed a forkful of bacon into my mouth.   “Eat up,” She insisted and I gobbled down my breakfast.   In the next three or so minutes, I rushed out of the door. I had forgotten the car keys thus I come back running and grabbed them before I went out running. This is my last shot in doing an interview and I needed not to be late.   I drove out of the parking lot and in a few minutes, I was in the main highway. The traffic almost made me shed tears but we move regardless. By the time I got to the company, I was right on time.   I was panting but I didn’t care. The most important thing is that I made it there. If not, I would never forgive myself in a thousand years for missing that job interview.   “Has the interview already started?” I asked a gentleman who was seated next to the place we were assigned to show up for the interview.   “No, “He answered.   “Are you sure?” This is really hard to believe. The two of us cannot just show up for an interview. I have been to such interviews before and we were hundreds of us.   “I am so sure, I was here like an hour ago,” He said sternly.   “Yeah, right,”   “The job needs only two people guess we have it already,” The boy reminded me and the thought of finally getting a job made me smile with excitement. Getting a job is a real hustle.   A small stout man passed by us with three other men younger than him following from behind. They entered into that office we were waiting on. I bet they are the ones going to asses us in the interview.   They called the first person and the boy went to the office. He did not take a long time before he come back with a smile plastered on his face. It was as if he had gotten the job already.   He asked me to go in and I did as he instructed. I don’t know where all this confidence come from. The way I answered the questions boldly made me think of why I have never opted to be in politics. The men accessing me were very proud of me and they vowed to call me so that I can work with their company.   I was in cloud nine when I drove back home.   “What is it, as Caleb called you?” My mother saw me happy for once in those three years,.   “No mum, I have never heard from him and you know very well I cannot go to check on him so drop that off your head,” I mumbled.   “Alright, I am sorry for bringing down your joy,” She apologized.   “No problem mother, it is okay for you to be concerned about my welfare,” I said and forced a smile on my lips to make her be okay with everything.   “Okay Stella. So, what makes you happy this mid-morning? I know I should have started with this question,” She mumbled.   “Well, I am glad you have finally asked. Well, I have gone for this interview and for the first time in so long, I am sure of getting the job. Only the two of us showed up for the interview and they only wanted two people. A gentleman and a lady, just like the way we showed up,” I explained to her.   “Wow that is good news. At least you will busy yourself,” She jested.   “Yea, sure,” I agreed.   “But don’t put your hopes too high. You never know,” I knew she would say something negative. Which is right because she didn’t see what I saw today. I am very sure about that job.   “Alright, I will be in my room,” I told her and left the living room.   “I will be here preparing lunch,” She shouted loud enough for me to hear.   I threw my heels aside and jumped into my bed. It was really a rash morning and what I need now is rest. I had woken up too early thus I craved for sleep.   I had hardly slept when the sound of my phone ringing woke me up.   I groaned and picked it up.   “Hello,” I gasped.   “Hi Stella, it is Brian from the interview. “ Of course it is him. I had given him my number so as to communicate when either of us gets that call to tell us to report for work.   “Hi Brian,” I hushed.   “Have you gotten a call from the company?” He implored.   “Not yet, how about you?” I asked him.   “I have Stella. I have gotten the job,” He jested.   “They haven called me yet,” I replied becoming fully awake.   “They will,” He assured me.   “Thank you for the information, bye,” I said hanging up.   I was still wondering why they haven’t get back to me when my phone rang again and a new number flushed on my screen.   “Hello,” I said and I wished it was something to do with the interview.   “Hello, am I speaking to Miss. Pelosi?” He implored.   “Yes, this is Miss. Pelosi you are speaking to,” I mumbled.   “I want you to come to my office right away. There is something I want us to discuss,” He explained.   “The same office which we did the interview, right?” I asked him.   “Yea, just come right away.  Am waiting for you,” The guy said.   “Of course sir,” I said hanging up.   I wore my heels back and made my hair into a tight high bun before I walked out of the house.   “Where are you heading?” My mother ensured to ask me before I left.   “Don’t worry mother. All you have to know is that I will be coming back home with some good news,” I told her and left.   I was impatient all the way till I got to the company premises. I took the lift right to the floor I was in previously.   I knocked the door and in the next second I heard him telling me to come in.   The guy who had called me was the short Stout man I had seen earlier.   “Hope I am not late sir,” I told him walking towards the desk where he was seated on a swivel chair.   “You are not Miss. Pelosi. Have a seat,” He instructed and I sat on the empty chair that was opposite from where he was seated.   “Miss. Pelosi, “He called me.   “Yes, “I mumbled.   “This is the letter you need so that the HR can log you as a staff in this company,” He started off.   “Okay,” I nodded listening to him carefully.   “You are just a step away from the job. I can type here your name and you can get the job,” He explained.   “Then do it,” I didn’t understand what is hard there.   “I can’t. I want you in my bed first,” He said this and I could feel a surge of anger in my system.   “What!”   “With all due respect sir, Go to hell. I don’t even need this job.” I said and stormed out of the office.
