KATE ARRIVED AT HOME after a grueling drive. She parked her car and went inside the house, taking her shoes off as soon as she closed the front door behind her. She needed to feel free and was tired to the bones.
She threw her bag onto the coffee table and turned to go into the kitchen. After a few steps, she hesitated. She went back and took her cell phone out of her bag and checked the missed calls.
