“Dad!” Lizzie gasped, standing up. “What in the world is wrong with you?”  Mary backed away from the car, glaring at Lizzie’s father, and shook her head.   “I’m not getting into that car,” she said. “I feel safer walking in the streets.”  “Even after what happened?” Deon asked, confused.  Mary nodded and twisted away from the car as she marched up the street.  Lizzie looked back and forth between her father and Mary’s retreating form.   “Mary! Wait! I’m not sure it’s safe out here!” she called after her.  Mary either didn’t hear her or ignored her as she continued to walk away.  Turning back to her father, Lizzie asked, “What was that all about?”  Her father shook his head and said, “Don’t worry about it. Just get in the car.”  She stared at him for a moment longer before turning
