Chapter 9: the resistance

1718 Words
Derek’s pov Its been a week since what happened and since I agreed to marry a Hale witch. The council has been looking into what happened to the omega but ever since he came back he seems to be deteriorating like something is eating at him. T oday we welcome my new fiancé to her now new home, “Alpha she is here” Andrew said clearly still not happy with the decision I made. We went downstairs and waited for the cars that were coming to the pack mansion, Ruby Hale was the first out to get out the car followed by her daughter. I have seen Jennifer but only in passing, she is beautiful and in many ways looks like her mother, but I was never attracted to her. I went to their car, “welcome to the Red Moon Pack” I said, and she smiled and bowed her head as a sign of respect. Ruby Hale looked around and frowned for a moment and then looked at me, “she is my only daughter so take care of her, and she will be in charge of looking after that omega” she said. Jennifer looked at her mother clearly surprised, “but mother, I told you that I couldn’t see anything, and I don’t think that I will be able to help him” Jennifer said to her mother. “there isn’t much we can do for him at the moment, all you have to do is get as much as you can out of him and make sure that he dies in peace” Ruby said like she wasn’t talking about death. The coldness in her voice was an indication that she doesn’t care what will happen to the omega as long as they can get what they want from him and as their Alpha King that’s the opposite of what I want. “Alpha I will do all I can to help him, you have my word” Jennifer said, and I looked at Andrew who frowned for a moment. “please come on in” I said to them and led the way, they followed me in, and I didn’t fail to notice how every inch of the mansion was being inspected. “I also came to tell you that we have looked into this case, and we can’t find anything useful. We found traces of magic but there is nothing we can do about it, I tried doing a summoning spell to get back his wolf but nothing” Ruby Hale said. I could tell that she didn’t seem happy about this, it was a mystery that even she couldn’t solve, and I could tell that scared her to bits. If someone as powerful as my future mother-in-law is scared of this then what chances do we have? “so, there is nothing you can do?” I asked her and it took her some time like she was scared to admit that even she cant do anything in this case. “I am still trying a few things” she said as we walked to my office, and we all sat down, and I could tell that something was still in her mind. “are you even doing anything about this? or you only want to push your own agenda as always?” Andrew asked her and I could see the hate in his eyes. I have seen that hatred in his eyes a few times and its usually directed at all the members of the council especially the Hale family members. “I know you don’t like my mother Andrew because of what happened, but you need to move on. Its been 4 years already and we have all moved on and maybe its time you do the same, respect my mother” Jennifer who is usually quiet said with fire in his eyes like she couldn’t stand him anymore. “what happened 4 years ago?” I asked Jennifer who avoided my gaze and whispered ‘nothing’, but I didn’t buy it. the tension between everyone here was evident, “this time I want to help but it isn’t only affecting werewolves but also witches. Two of our witches have gone missing and we cant even find them using a locator spell, this means that they could be at the hands of the same people who are doing this. if they can remove an entire werewolf what about a person’s magic?” Ruby asked. Andrew didn’t say anything after that, “you think that they can also remove magic?” I asked her and she nodded. “I will be looking for them now, I am taking some of my people with me and I will tell you if I find anything” she added and got up and glanced at her daughter one last time. They didn’t even say goodbye or be like normal mother and daughter, she just walked away, and Jennifer just remained seated. “I will take you where the omega is in case you can help him” I said to Jennifer, and she nodded. “I never asked you, are you okay with this marriage?” I asked her and I saw blush and that’s when I realised that this girl seems to have feelings or me. I could feel her warmth towards me, and I don’t want her to get any false hope, I am still waiting for my mate, and I will never feel towards her what she feels for me. “yes I agreed to it, I know that it’s something that I need to do” she said but her cheeks were still a little red and she was playing with her fingers. “well then maybe it’s time I say this before it’s a little too late, I will marry you, but it will be out of obligation. I won’t be the husband you want or deserve because my heart is reserved for someone else. I am sorry to say this, but I won’t be able to love you” I said, and she didn’t say anything for a while. I could tell that she seemed a little dispirited but then smiled, “I know, I am also doing my obligation and doing what is the best interest of my coven” she replied. We then walked quietly to the infirmary, but the silence was uncomfortable, and I felt terrible but its best that she knows what to expect in this marriage. When we got there she looked at him and I could tell that it wasn’t getting any better, I could tell from his breathing that he has about 2 weeks left, and those 2 weeks will be tough. Hopefully by then the council would have found an answer to this and we have been looking for the other missing werewolves but nothing yet. “we will find an answer to this Derek, I know we will. There has never been a case that the council couldn’t figure out” Jennifer said, and I nodded. After that she got settled into her new home, and I must say that she knows how to respect other people’s boundaries because she respected mine. She didn’t ask for a room next to mine and we only saw each other briefly during breakfast and dinner. And just like that days passed, and we were all busy looking for answers, “do we think that it’s the resistance?” Samantha asked a question that everyone was scared to ask until now. If it’s the resistance then there isn’t that much we can do, the resistance is a group of supernatural beings who have something against the council. They have been around for years, and rumours are that they are strong enough to fight the council head on. “I think it is, my mother just called and there is meeting tonight with the council. She found something and it sounded urgent” Jennifer said walking into my office. We didn’t waste anytime and went to the council meeting house and almost everyone was there, and the meeting started. Ruby briefed us about where she was and that she found the two witches, they were dead and completely drained of their magic just like she had suspected. “you are telling me that they can also take away magic?” the Vampire King asked, “yes they can and that’s not all, if this is what they are capable off then I think that they can also insect it to another person” she added. Everyone gasped because if this is true then one could create an army of supernatural beings and takeover the world. “there has to be something we can do” I said, and Rita Hale shook her head, “there is nothing we can do, the resistance is powerful and if they are behind this then I don’t think there is much we can do” she said. “there was only one person who can make the resistance go down on their knees” Ruby said, and I saw pain in her eyes as she said that. the same pain I saw in her eyes that one time I found her in that room, “mother you cant be suggesting that we get her help are you?” Jennifer asked her mother. “I don’t think we have a choice; she is the only one who can figure this out before it gets out of hand” Drake said. who are they talking about? “unless you all forgot, let me remind you that she cut all ties with us and made it clear that if she ever saw any of us then she would burn our world to the ground” Andrew said, and everyone kept quiet. “who are you all talking about?” I asked and Ruby took a deep breathe like she is about to say something really hard for her to say. “my daughter, my oldest daughter Scarlet Hale” she replied. Isn’t her oldest daughter dead? Who is this Scarlet Hale? Can one woman be able to solve such a huge mystery than an entire organisation couldn’t solve??
