stay here

Amber’s P.O.V. This was it. This was the night I was going to die. I was 21 years old and I was going to die. I swallowed, even though I wasn’t able to get past the huge lump in my throat. The only thing that I could feel was fear, fear so intense it froze me. I wasn’t able to move, speak, think. I was just… stuck. I was standing inside Nikki’s nursery. Inside Alpha Archer and Luna Bec’s house. I was just the babysitter, I was nobody special. I had no title or power, and yet, I was the one standing in the room with a lunatic standing right in front of her, who was sitting in the rocking chair, waving a knife through the air as if it were 'Febreze'. I was just standing in the crowd during the Alpha ceremony, along with all the rest of the pack. I had been standing next to Alpha Archer’s parents even, who were holding on to Nikki, their pup. I had spent a lot of time with her already while babysitting her, so we had a close bond, that’s why it hadn’t taken her too long before she had reached out to me, and I had taken her, holding her on my arm, as we were watching her parents on stage, speaking to the pack members for the first time as the official Alpha and Luna. That’s when I had felt something sharp in my back, and a male voice had sounded in my ear, telling me 'not to move' and 'not to make any sound'. From that point on, I had just been frozen. All I could do was stand still and look out in front of me, locking eyes with the Luna, as she stared back at me in horror, and I could see it. I knew that she saw that I was in trouble here, and I just hoped that, soon, my rescue would be here. I wasn’t ready to die yet, I had my whole life still in front of me. I wanted to get a decent job, find my mate, build a home and get babies of my own. Hell no, I wasn’t ready to die now! After the Alpha ceremony, my attacker had forced me to take him and the baby towards Bec’s house. Which I did, since when holding on to a baby, I had zero chances to fight back and to defend myself. If he would hurt the baby… I couldn’t even think that far, so I needed to keep him happy, give him what he wanted. Maybe I was lucky, and maybe once he would get what he wanted, he would stand up and leave us alone, walk away and out of my life forever. And I thanked the Moon Goddess herself, as I heard footsteps running up the stairs. I sighed in relief, knowing that my salvation was near, but I frowned, as the door opened and Bec stepped inside, her eyes immediately locking with the enemy sitting in the rocking chair. “How did you get past the borders?” She asked him, which made me frown. She didn’t ask him who he was, where he had come from or what he wanted from us. And it made me wonder if these two already knew each other. Bec came from another pack, the Spike pack. She had had another life before finding her mate in our Alpha, so it only made sense that she would know people who were complete strangers to me. But I found it hard to believe that my new Luna would have been hanging around with straight criminals. And by the way they were both looking at each other, they weren’t friends at all. “Doesn’t matter. All that matters is, that I did.” The man spoke, his voice filled with determination. “Do you have what I came for?” He then asked Bec, making me understand that this was in fact not the first conversation happening between these two. “I don’t even know where they keep it.” The Luna answered, not making any sense to me at all. “And even if I did, I wouldn’t give it to you, either.” She added in a snarl. Anger radiating out of her small body. “Too bad. Let’s kill the babysitter, and see if it will help you clear your mind.” The man spoke, which made me freeze. This is it. This is the moment. This is where I die. I gasped as I braced myself, holding baby Nikki as close to my body as I possibly could to protect her. The enemy could kill me, but I would protect until my last breath, in order to protect the little one in my arms. She had done nothing to deserve this outcome, she could overcome this and have a nice life after tonight. She would survive this. I would make sure of it. “NO!” The Luna screamed, as I was waiting for the knife to hit me somewhere, but the strike or pain never came. “Kill her, and you will get absolutely nothing but blood on your hands!” The Luna added, and as I heard the man speak again, I understood just how close he was standing to me. I could practically feel his filthy breath on my back. “You are in no position to be making deals here.” He growled back at the Luna. “Oh, but I am.” She answered him, sounding pretty darn sure of herself. “You see, you kill her, and there will be nothing left for you, but to kill the baby and me as well. Which will make you and up with absolutely nothing. Accept, you will piss off my mate and the Alpha of this pack. Not only will you end up with nothing, you can spend the rest of your miserable life running and hiding from my mate as well, because he will strip down the entire planet, until he will have found you, and he will make you pay for what you would have done here, tonight. And believe me, my mate will never give up.” The Luna threatened him. “What do you want?” The man spoke, and I was impressed, hearing how the Luna had been able to get inside of his head. “Amber and Nikki both get to walk out of this house, and I will give you what you need. If I lie, then you can keep me and ask my mate for ransom.” The Luna told him, making me gasp for air. What? NO! The Luna was trying to trade places with me. She wanted to save me. NO! “I can give you money. Asking for my ransom or even selling me on the black market. I think selling a young Luna will come with a big price tag, no?” The Luna added, which made me turn to look at her. She couldn’t do this, could she? Our Alpha needed her! Hell, we all needed her! The pack needed her! “Get out!” The male inside the room growled at me immediately after, while all I could do was look at my Luna and friend. What the hell was she doing? What was she planning now? She had to have some sort of idea in her head, right? Visions of her sitting inside a cell filled up my head, and I couldn’t let that happen to her. I needed to get help, I needed to save her! *Get out and get yourself and Nikki to safety* The Luna mind linked me all of a sudden. “Please, you can’t do this. You can’t stay here.” I cried, begging her to come with me. “Yes, I can. And I will.” She told me, letting me know this subject was not up for debate, her eyes telling me to run. But how could I run? She was my Luna. “Get out, now!” She growled at me, and no one had ever growled at me with so much anger before in my life, so as I jumped in fear about the way she had just reacted towards me, it also set my feet in motion, as I started to run out of the room, down the hallway, down the stairs, through the front door, and smack into a man, who I had never seen before in my life. My first reaction was, what if this is a guy that worked along with the man standing upstairs? But as I looked up and locked eyes with him, my second reaction was… mate. “Mine!” He growled, making me understand that I wasn’t the only one feeling it. Shit Not here! Not now! I kept staring into his eyes, unable to speak, I even felt him wrap his arm around my waist. And besides the fact that this was not the time for cuddles, I couldn’t help but feel… safe, protected, taken care of. His eyes were the softest of blue I had ever seen, somehow letting me know how kind he was. He had messy blonde hair, lying on top of his head as if he had just rolled out of bed, it looked… freakishly hot. And I wanted to run my fingers through them, hook my hands in there to feel how soft it would actually be. This man was big, a full head bigger than me, his shoulders wide and chest rock hard. I had felt that clearly when running into him. He was only wearing shorts, so his upper body didn’t leave anything to the imagination, and all I could say was… holy s**t. He must have just shifted from his wolf form, because of standing here half naked, but I surely didn’t mind. I didn’t mind at all. “What’s wrong?” He asked me, his voice low but still soft. What’s wrong? What’s wrong is that my Luna is in danger! What’s wrong is that there is a maniac inside the house behind me! I need to alert my Alpha! I need to get this baby to safety! I need to get you to safety! I really want to kiss you… wait… what? “We need to run!” I cried out to him, when I was finally able to think again. But my mate frowned at me, it made him look cute and my knees started to buckle. f*****g hell, what was this man doing to me just by looking at me? “What’s wrong?” He asked me again, still not having a clue what was going on with me. He was probably wondering if I was mentally unstable, ready for the looney bin. I was surely acting like that at this point, but he needed to move. We needed to move! We needed to get help and save my Luna! “There’s a guy with a knife in the house! Bec talked to him and made him agree to let me and Nikki go!” I cried out again, feeling how my mate froze in front of me. I didn’t even know his name yet, but I knew what his body felt like when under pressure. Somehow, we were going all backwards here. But I froze, as my mate took me by the arm, and started to guide me towards the side of the house, pushing me back underneath some trees, his blue eyes burning into mine. “Stay here.” He told me, making me freeze. He couldn’t go in there all by himself! He would be in danger, he needed help. Someone like my brother, the Alpha himself, preferably, as the strongest male in the pack! “No, please, stay!” I told him, and for one small second, I honestly believed he would tell me that he would, but then something shifted in his eyes, as he slowly shook his head. “I’ll be right back. I promise.” He nodded at me, leaning down as he kissed me on the forehead. The gesture was sweet and kind, his lips were soft, his body heat radiating off onto me. And I wanted to grab him, pull him closer, hold him, kiss him as well. But I knew I needed to wait. He did what every wolf would do in this case, which was to do everything in their power to try and protect the Luna of the pack. Even though I had never even seen this guy before in my life. Meaning that he wasn’t a pack member of the Grey pack, he still felt to be very protective over Bec, and it made me wonder if they knew each other as well. But the front door opened, and I wanted to scream, as I saw that the man walked outside, his head yanking at all sides, as if he was looking for someone. Is he looking for me? Is he looking for the baby? Did he change his mind? God… Where is Bec? Is she hurt? Did he kill her? But what surprised me the most, was seeing the change in my mate’s body. He looked… evil? “You.” He growled, as he stepped away from me, not looking back at me, once.
