Tyler’s P.O.V.
I was standing in the middle of a field, next to a stage that had been built with Bec standing next to me. And I couldn’t help but to feel content at that moment. I had my little sister standing right next to me, and baby Nikki right on my arm as I had been bouncing her up and down, before Archer’s mom had taken her from me, to look at the ceremony from the front. For one small minute there, it seemed as if all my troubles were long gone and forgotten. And I sighed, as I looked around these amazing grounds again.
How in the world can these people walk around in their human form here?
I want to run around here in my wolf, constantly!
The mountains were so f*****g inviting they were basically yelling at me ‘come over here’, and I calmed my wolf Titan down, promising him we would go for a run up there, as soon as we possibly could. First, we needed to be here for Bec. It was her big night after all, that had brought us here in the first place. I was surprised, seeing the number of people that had gathered around the stage to come and see the ceremony with their own eyes. This pack was big, a bit bigger than the Spike pack that I was still living in. Maybe 100 wolves or so more? Give or take.
Well s**t, with these views…
Who wouldn’t want to live here?
Archer was standing on stage, as he was speaking to his pack for the first time as an official Alpha. He had asked me to keep an eye on Bec, like every mated male would do, to protect his mate. And I had promised him that I would. Bec was like my little sister, if anyone tried to harm her, they would have to come through me, first. And the same went for baby Nikki.
“So, how do you like it here?” Bec asked me, as if the woman was reading my freaking mind. And I couldn’t help the smile that grew on my face, as I looked around this place again.
“This place is something else, Bec.” I sighed, unable to lie to her. And I shook my head because s**t, part of me still couldn’t believe what I was seeing here.
“I know, right?” She answered me with a broad grin. She knew exactly what I was talking about.
“Tyler, please, move over here. I need you here, you’re family.” She basically begged me, which actually came as a surprise to me. Not because she had asked me this, but because I found myself wanting to move here as well. I wanted to do it, but I couldn’t. Not yet anyway.
“Bec, my parents are still inside the Spike pack.” I sighed, knowing I was lying straight through my teeth here. Not because my parents were living there, because they were, but that wasn’t why I wanted to stay inside the Spike pack. Even though I loved them and they loved me back, I was a grown man now, with my own life, and they understood that. What was keeping me inside the Spike pack, was that I still had some unfinished business over there. I needed to fix those first. After that, I was a free man. Living here and running in these mountains all day every day, f**k. The image sure appealed to me.
“But you would love it here. Archer will find you a job within two minutes. A good job.” Bec stated, almost making me groan because, f**k… I really wanted this and she was making it even harder on me by the minute. Call me a f*****g donkey, but I was stubborn, and I wasn’t ready to make the move just yet.
“I know.” I nodded, smiling at her, hoping she would let it go, at least for now. Which she did, because the master of ceremonies had walked onto the stage and we were about to witness the exchange of blood between the former Alpha, Beta and Gamma with the new ones. This was the part of the ceremony that everyone had wanted to come and see. Hands were cut and blood was mixed, people clapped and cheered, and Alpha Archer was officially born. I smiled and clapped along with them, even though my wolf picked up on something else, as well.
Vanilla?
I looked around the big field, not finding anything that could make sense of the sudden scent. Or the fact that my wolf Titan started to act out of control.
Boy, what’s got you going bonkers all of a sudden?
~That scent, can’t you tell?~
I kept looking around, hoping to see something that would explain it all, anything that could make sense of this. I had never in my life picked up a scent this hard ever before. It was as if the scent was calling out to me, luring me in, pulling me towards the source.
Sorry, help me out here, Titan.
~Tyler, MATE! OUR MATE IS HERE!~
My wolf went ballistic, as my heart started to beat as if it was about to jump out of my chest. My breathing picked up and I wondered if this is what most people refer to as a panic attack. For one, because I wasn’t looking for a mate to begin with, but because I couldn’t find her in this f*****g big crowd either! My eyes just kept scanning the crowd, looking at all the girls, hoping that, like superman, I would have x-ray vision and once I saw her, I would just know or something like that. But nothing clicked, which made me f*****g antsy more than anything. She was here, in this sea of people, and I couldn’t f*****g find her!
“Thank you all for being so kind into accepting me, and into embracing me as your Alpha. I will promise you, I will work hard each and every single day, to make sure you will not be disappointed.” Archer spoke to the audience, his voice sounding a million miles away to me.
“Now, I want you all to meet a special person who is very precious to me. Rumors have been going around and, for once, I can say that yes, the rumors were, indeed, very true. Yes, I did find my mate and your new Luna. So please, give a warm, welcoming applause, as we welcome your new Luna and my one true mate, Bec, on the stage.” I felt Bec moving beside me, so I gave her a nod, knowing that she would be looking at me right now, even though my mind was on another planet at the same time. f**k! My mate was here, and I could not find her. I was the worst f*****g wolf in the entire history of werewolves!
SHIT s**t SHIT
My eyes kept scanning the crowd, I kept searching, but nothing clicked for me. Nothing made sense to me and my wolf didn’t start to howl towards the moon as I made contact with some of the girls who even looked back at me. Even though some of them gave me bedroom eyes, that was the last thing I wanted right now, and feeling from the life that came from my d**k at the eye contact, I wondered if I would ever go hard for someone else, ever again. And I panicked even harder, as Archer’s speech was done, and the pack members started to f*****g shift into their wolves. I knew it was a part of the ceremony. A new Alpha and Luna would go running with their pack for the first time. But s**t, this made it even harder for me to find my mate! So, without having another choice, I shifted into my wolf as well. Having every intention of running all night long, until I would have found her.
Archer and Bec started running first, the Beta and Gamma right on their tales, as the other wolves started to follow. And like f*****g magic, a whiff of vanilla passed me again, it made my wolf howl, before he ran off like a freaking spear, looking for his mate in this giant pack of wolves. My wolf Titan ran, zigzagging between groups of wolves, stopping and changing directions in order to not forget one single wolf here. But I still couldn’t find her. If anything, her scent started to faint away, which meant that I was going in the wrong direction.
FUCK!
My wolf started to sniff the air, the ground, hoping to find some trace of the scent that we could follow towards the owner. We needed to find her, it would kill us if we didn’t. We would go crazy if we didn’t. But once again, I was pulled out of my thinking, as I heard Archer’s voice coming from behind me.
“Tyler!” Archer called out to me, forcing me to stop sniffing and shift into my human form again, in order to be able to talk to him.
“Alpha?” I asked him, getting angry, because he was stopping me from finding my mate.
“I need you to run after Bec, something is up with her. I need to know what it is. I can’t leave the entire pack right now, I don’t want to make a scene or cause panic with the pack members.” Archer told me, and while he made all the sense in the world to me, I hated him right now. I was searching for my mate, and he was basically telling me to stop searching and go after Bec instead. And while every fiber in my body was fighting against it, I gave in. What was I going to say?
Sorry Archer,
can’t help you because I am searching for my mate.
and I can’t f*****g find her?
I was a freaking piece of work.
FUCK!
So, while cursing to myself, I just nodded back at Archer.
“Of course, Alpha. I’m right on it.” I answered him, as I shifted back into Titan and ran back down the mountain. f**k, I hadn’t even realized I had run up the mountain in my frenzy. This should have been a f*****g blast, but I had had my head so far up my own ass, that I hadn’t even realized that I was running through these beautiful packlands.
Fuck me…
I ran back towards Archer’s house. But to my surprise, I caught back on the vanilla scent again, and led me straight to… Archer’s house? I stopped, dead in my tracks. Something wasn’t making any sense here, none at all. Archer and Bec lived alone with Nikki in their house, then why did I have a feeling that my mate was inside Bec’s house as well? I shifted into my human form, putting on the pair of shorts that I had grabbed with my teeth, while running over the field where the Alpha ceremony had been just a couple of minutes ago. I was just closing the zipper, and wanting to get inside the house, when the door flew open and my heart stopped.
Dead… I was f*****g dead
brain dead, at least…
Fuck me!
As if The Moon Goddess had pity on me, because I couldn’t find my mate on my own, she had sent her running straight into me. She was f*****g gorgeous, the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life, without a doubt, and I had seen my fair share of girls. But this one, she was something else, she was special, she was…
“Mine!” I growled, wrapping my arms around her, without even knowing that I was doing it. She was quite petite, long black hair that was falling way past her shoulders, dark intense eyes that could easily trap you. A cute button nose and damn delicious looking lips that were quite red looking, and I wondered if she was wearing lipstick, or if they were just this red on their own. If anything, I sure as hell wanted to find out for myself by kissing her senseless. Her eyes grew big in surprise, as she looked up at me, and I frowned, since I could see past her big dark eyes and see that her eyes were also red, her cheeks were stained, she had been crying, and I couldn’t help the growl that rippled from my throat. Had someone made my mate cry?
~I’ll kill them!~ Titan snarled inside of me, seeing that our mate seemed hurt.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her, and it was only then that I saw that she was carrying Nikki on her arm. The little one grinned at me, as if she was calling out to me and saying ‘hi uncle Tyler’, in contrast to my mate, Nikki seemed fine and her usual bubbly, happy self, my mate, on the other hand, looked anything but fine. Her mouth opened, forming into an ‘o’, but still, she didn’t speak. She probably hadn’t thought about running straight into her one true mate, but still… She needed to tell me what the hell had happened to her. And that’s when it hit me.
Bec.
I followed Bec here!
Did Bec do this?
Did Bec make my mate cry?
Why?
“We need to run!” My mate cried out to me, making my frown form even deeper in my forehead.
Run?
Run where?
Run from what?
And even though it was cute as hell to see, because my mate started to push into my chest in order to get me to move, even though she couldn't move me a single inch, she still didn’t make any sense to me.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her again, hoping that this time, she would answer me. Something was troubling her and I needed to know what it was.
“There’s a guy with a knife in the house! Bec talked to him and made him agree to let me and Nikki go!” The girl cried again, as tears rolled down her cheeks in fear. I wanted to reach up and wipe them away, but her words had frozen me.
A guy
in the house
With a knife?
Now, I knew werewolves, we would heal up just fine from most things. But we could still do some major damage with a knife. Cutting an artery and bleeding out, there was no healing back from that. Once you were gone, you were gone for good, same as humans. With the right doctors, we could heal back up, but some injuries, even for wolves, were too severe to heal back from. And that’s probably when my caveman took over, since I grabbed my mate by the arm and started to pull her towards the side of the house, I needed to get her to safety, first. I took her towards some trees, knowing she would be hidden in the darkness there, she wouldn’t be seen, she would be safe.
“Stay here.” I told her, wanting to turn back around to get inside the house.
“No, please, stay!” She cried out to me, and the sound broke my heart into a thousand pieces. Not only was this girl my mate, she was my f*****g mistress as well, because it seemed that as soon as she asked me to do anything, me nor my wolf had any difficulties listening to her and following her every command. Only this time, it was my baby sister’s and Luna’s life that was on the line. And every wolf knew, protecting the Luna of the pack was your number one priority.
“I’ll be right back. I promise.” I nodded, looking at her. I didn’t even think twice when I leaned in and kissed her forehead. Her skin felt soft and warm, her vanilla scent waving around me, and greeting me as if someone had just made a fresh batch of cupcakes. I was doomed and I bloody knew it. I looked into those deep pools of dark eyes and that’s when I knew for a fact that I was doomed. Because I wanted to kiss her again, this time on the lips, and everywhere else for that matter. But I heard the sound of a door barging open again, so I immediately turned my head to look. And what I saw made my f*****g blood boil, and I saw red. I was ready to f*****g kill!
