“What am even I doing here?” I mumbled as I roam my eyes around the events hall where the fashion show is happening.
I unconsciously rub my hands over the velvet of my black dress. I feel out of place since I’m not used to attending such a glamorous event. It’s one of the biggest charity events held in the country. Almost all of the guests are CEOs or presidents of big companies gathered here to talk about business and yes to spare a bit of their vast fortune for the good deed. But that’s not all, blockbuster celebrities both local and foreign attended the event as well! I almost squeaked when I saw my favorite celebrity couple on the red carpet walking in before me.
I was happy for a moment, but after all the excitement, and upon entering the meticulously arranged hall, I felt the familiar anxiety. All the shimmer and beauty around me made me uncomfortable convincing me that I really shouldn’t be here. That aside from this edgy feeling I’ve been having since my encounter with Sean this afternoon.
So why was I here again? I wasn’t supposed to.
When I left the office earlier, I tried my best to look as if nothing happened inside. But I couldn’t forget how everyone looked at me with pity in their eyes. It’s not because they heard Sean’s harsh words nor do they have an idea of what really happened inside no. Sean’s office is heavily soundproof. He can howl on his wolf form and no one will hear him. They most likely thought I got scolded over something I did wrong and I cried over it.
Oh, I wish it’s that simple. It would’ve been better if he just slapped me or throw me off to the wall. I can take that. What he did is more than would me. He’s opening old wounds I thought had closed.
I sighed as I walked into my apartment. Kicked my flats off to the side without care. It’s only six in the evening but I feel like my soul is ready to leave my body anytime. I rotated my head as my hand rest on my nape. I don’t feel any pain anywhere, not on the outside at least.
My bag bounced off the sofa when I dropped it there and its content scattered on the floor but I didn’t pay it any heed. I proceeded with pulling my shirt from my slacks and unbuttoning it. I feel hot and sweaty.
I definitely need a shower. Maybe it’ll help ease my mind.
My feet hurried to the bathroom where I took off and throw the rest of my clothes away to the laundry bin. I took my contact lenses off and placed it inside its small lid. I couldn’t find the time to go to the store and get a new pair of glasses so I stocked with the contacts for the meantime.
I’m really uncomfortable and felt like the cold water is calling me but I changed my mind when I glance at the tub, seemingly inviting me.
Yeah, this should be better than just a shower.
I prepared my lavender-scented bubble bath and indulged myself in the relaxing scent.
After a while, I heard my phone ringing. I wanted to ignore whoever was calling but didn’t. It could be urgent since I don’t really receive phone calls after I’m out of the office.
Did I forget to do something?
I quickly wash off the remaining bubbles and went out of the tub. Slipped in my bathrobe and slippers before I walked to the sofa. I picked up my phone from the carpet and check who the caller was.
Sean? Why would he call me?
“Hello?”
“Felicity. You forgot to confirm my attendance at the fashion show.”
“I did?” Oh f**k yes I did! I was in such a hurry to go home that I forgot to call the organizer.
“Would I be calling you if you didn’t?” He answered in a flat tone.
“I’m sorry. I’ll call them right now.” How can I be so stupid?
“No. Just comes here and bring the invitation with you and I mean right now!”
“What? But I…” I wanted to say I left it in the office but he already hangs up. I stared at my phone incredulously.
What am I going to do? For a moment I hesitated. He could’ve just introduced himself but I doubt that. The security on the event is top-notch and he’s still yet to make his formal introduction as the new CEO and owner of Tech Global.
“Ugh! At least I get to wear that stupidly expensive dress.” I marched to the room and hurriedly opened the box of the dress that I bought for tonight but I was surprised that it wasn’t what I ordered. I ordered a simple peach long gown. I didn’t order this black velvet revealing dress that was inside the box.
I picked up the cover that fell on the floor and noticed a smaller box. When I opened it, a gasped at the shining silver stiletto I found inside.
“I definitely didn’t order this either!”
My phone vibrated and Sean’s message popped up on the screen
Be here in ten minutes Felicity.
“Damn!” I didn’t have a choice but to where this. I waked to my drawer and pulled out black lace underwear that I haven’t used yet. It was a birthday gift from Anna that I was to use when I finally find a boyfriend but was kept hidden under my usual cotton pairs.
I got dressed as fast as I can and put on light makeup and wore my contacts back. I let my wavy hair down and just clipped on a silver pin to the side. My phone kept on vibrating while I was slipping in the five inches stilettos.
I hope I don’t end up breaking my leg because of this. I couldn’t help but think as I take care not to stumble on the carpeted floor. I still have to go to the office to get those invitations.
I picked up my bag from the floor and looked for my wallet only to realize that the invitation had been there all along.
“What the heck is happening to me? I’ve been spacing out too much I didn’t even notice I put it here.”
Still, I’m thankful I didn’t have to drop by the office looking like this. I’ve had enough attention from everyone since Sean’s first day at the office and I’m so done with it.
The lights went on and everyone stood to give the designer a round of applause. I stood and clapped my hands as well while my eyes kept roaming around the place.
Where did he go?
It’s been an hour since I arrived at the fashion show and I still haven’t seen Sean, not even his shadow.
Don’t tell me he left? The thought made me worried and pissed at the same time.
I scanned the whole place for the last time and noticed a familiar pair talking not too far away.
Sean and Aurora? Are they arguing?
I saw how Aurora wiped her tear and smiled at him before she tiptoes and kissed him full in the mouth.
“Look who’s here!” A male’s deep voice came from behind me.
“Gregory! What are you doing here? I thought you’re not going back soon?”
“Why I'm hurt, sweetheart!” He faked a gasped before he smiled. He took my hand and kissed it before he spoke again. “Didn’t you miss me?” He asked looking so adorable with his puppy eyes.
“Of course I did! It was just too sudden, I… when did you arrive?” I laughed at his antics. Gregory has a way of making people laugh without looking stupid.
“Just this afternoon. I thought I’d surprise you tomorrow when and wake you up with my charming smile but I had to go to you when I saw you here or you’ll be in trouble.” He feasts his arms over my shoulders casually.
“Huh? Why… I have an invitation. I didn’t Gate crash.”
“Not that silly,” he tucked a few pieces of my hair that fell down on my face behind my ears before he leaned down to whisper. “I’m not the only wolf around here who can smell your sweet scent, Fifi.”
“What?!” There are wolves here too?
“Yep.” He answered upon reading the obvious question in my mind. “And you’re not safe here, so we’ll have to go home.” He smiled before he encircled my arms around his.
“She will go home. But not with you, Gregory.”
My back froze when I heard Sean’s voice from behind me. Then, I felt someone grab my other hand and pulled me away from Gregory. My body fell to Sean’s broad chest and I had to look up to him as I felt his arm encircle around my waist.
“What is wrong with you? I’ve been looking for you since…”
“You’ve found me, now I’m taking you home.”
“No!” I protested and brushed his hand away.
“Felicity!” He said my name with a warning tone.
“I’m going home with Gregory!” I said in a low voice while trying not to catch more attention from the guests.
But Sean doesn’t seem to mind. “You’re not and that’s final.” He spoke with full authority he’s used to as an alpha.
“Come on man, you’re scaring her.” Gregory chuckled. “You can go with Sean. I still have to pick up my car and fix a few things. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He looked back to Sean and tapped on his shoulder. “Take care of my girl, brother!”
“No, you’re not. You’re going back to the pack like we’ve talked about and wait for me until I’m done here.” Sean’s voice was calm. Too calm for the fire that flickering on his green eyes.
“As you wish, alpha.” Gregory bowed before his powerful alpha.
“But… Gregory…” I looked back at him as Sean pulls me away. He lifts his head and nods at me then smiled reassuring me that I’m going to be fine.
I didn’t miss though, how his jaws tightened and his eyes darkened as he watches as leave.
