We stopped at a red light and I took that as an opportunity to talk to him again since I didn't want to distract him from driving.
"Why are you doing this?" I was curious why all of a sudden he would take a complete stranger out for dinner. I mean, I am still a stranger to him. We might have met earlier but we were far from being friends.
"What?" He glanced at me.
"This," I said as I held my hands up as if it was enough. "Taking me with you,"
"I told you already," He shrugged but went on to give me another answer. "And maybe because I don't want you to eat.... that," He pointed to the paper bag on my hands.
"What is wrong with these? They're delicious and cheap." I said as a matter of fact. We are not going back on this topic. He cannot change my mind about it.
"I didn't say anything," He simply said.
"But you sure were implying something," I pointed out the obvious. What is wrong with rich people looking down on these generic things?
"I just think that you need to have a proper dinner, okay? You were at the university whole day and I don't think it's right for a college student not to have a good meal." He explained out. Well, he has a point but still it doesn't make what I bought useless. He sighed. "Give me that," He said referring to the paper bag. I moved it away from him. What is he going to do with it?
"What? Why?" I asked confused.
"Can you please give that to me?" He pleaded
and went to get it from me. I was about to object but I saw him handing it to the street kids that were knocking on his side of the car. I stopped and watched what he did.
I watched as those children thanked him repeatedly. I didn't know he had the heart for the less fortunate ones. I always thought of him as this spoiled brat kid that his parents told me about. I guess there could be something more to him than what he portrays.
"I didn't know you're into charity works," I couldn't help but drop a remark. It wasn't in his reputation to do such thing. Well, as they say, unexpected things happen everyday.
"I just didn't want the food to go to waste," He said. "See? They're happy now," He smiled as he watched those kids. "And you have no dinner so you have to eat with me,"
I laughed. It was a genuine laugh. I knew he liked helping those kids too. I mean, if I was in his shoes and I have something to give, I would gladly extend a hand to them. "You did that on purpose," It was a statement. However, he didn't have to do it anyway, I was already riding with him to dinner. But on the other hand, it was good too, we were able to help those kids.
"Guilty as charged," He said and laughed too.
Wow, I never knew I could do this with him. I mean, he doesn't seem so bad at all. I thought that I would only do this so I could freely spy on him but I guess it won't be too bad to be friends with him. Although it's still too early to say that. I haven't really known him deeply.
He started driving again and it wasn't long before we reached to wherever he was taking me. As expected from a rich guy, he brought me to a place I haven't even been before and I probably never will any sooner. It screams money and glamour; things that I do not have.
"Looks fancy," I murmured.
He went out of the car and I did the same. I didn't wait for him to open up the door for me. since that would be too much. We're not on a date or something. He was just someone who bugged me to have a good dinner and not eat those fast food junkie he was insulting. I shook my head. I'll let that one slide since he gave it to those kids.
We entered the restaurant and were greeted by their staff. They asked if we had a reservation and Dale nodded. I didn't know that. Maybe he was really planning on eating here tonight even if I didn't go with him. He gave his details to the staff and she immediately assisted us.
We were guided towards a table for two which was at the far corner. It was a good spot, I figured since not much people would pass by and we could have some privacy not that we needed that. I just think that it would be nice to eat in peace.
He pulled a chair for me and I sat down after I said my thanks to him. It was actually the first time that I have been to a place like this. It's too expensive that even just stepping a foot in here isn't actually a good idea for us. Way back home, we never get to eat in places like these. It's just so fancy that I couldn't help but get mesmerized by the place.
"I figured you like the place?"Dale asked me. I nodded. "You'll like the food even more,"
"Looking forward to that," I said. I know these restaurants cost a fortune and it is now the time to judge whether or not it would be all worth it.
"This is one of the best steakhouse here," He said.
"So that's why people are flocking around," I said as I saw people starting to pour in as well. It just shows how famous the place is.
"Yeah," He said.
We waited for a few minutes before the waiter came up to us and handed us their menus. Oh dear, my eyes grew wide upon seeing the prices. Of the campus's cafeteria was expensive then I don't know what this is.
