Chapter 12: Misjudge Spoiled Brat

1072 Words
Dale started saying his orders to the waiter while I was listening and following his orders. They were all very expensive! How can he just casually say it like he was just buying a candy? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they're freaking rich and his parents are the reason why I was able to attend to a school as expensive as this. "What would you like to have?" Dale asked me and I didn't know what to say. Everything on the menu was expensive and I don't know if I could afford even one of those. "I don't know, I don't think I can pay for thes--" I said but he cut me off. "Don't worry; I will pay for everything since I was the one who brought you here. Just order whatever you like," I nodded. I mean, I sure couldn't pay for it and it wasn't the time to back out. The waiter was already waiting for me to order. "I think I'll just have whatever you're having," I said. "Since you've been here before;you know the deal," He nodded and then turned to the waiter. "Alright, two of what I ordered please," The waiter left probably to work on our orders and silence enveloped us. I didn't want to start a conversation with him. I felt like I have been talking a lot and he might get annoyed of my loud mouth. ~~~ The waiter came back with our orders. I was amazed that it didn't take long for them to prepare it. "Here you go," He said when he put down the last plate in front of us. "If you need anything else, I'll be happy to assist you." "Thank you," I nodded as well as Dale. A moment of silence passed by us and I didn't know what to say to him so I didn't start anything. I felt like I have been talking too much that he might think I was too loud. "So... let's eat," He said as he took his table napkin out and placed it on his lap. It was a fine dining, I must say, everything screamed money and sophistication. The table setting was not an exception which makes me think that it was actually the first time that I am doing this. I was nervous. "Is everything okay?" He asked me when I didn't move while ha was already holding his knife and fork. And yes, we ordered steak for dinner along side mashed potatoes. "Uhm, yeah, yeah," I nodded. I took the fork and knife just the way he did it. I sure haven't done this before since we usually use the usual spoon and fork at home but I learned this during my senior high school days. We were taught about proper table etiquettes and I didn't know I would be able to put it in good use someday, which is today. "Have you been here before?" He asked while he was cutting his steak. "No, actually," I said. "Oh, my bad, so you aren't from around here then? Well, I should have known considering that you were living in an apartment." He sort of answered his own questions. "No, not really," I said just to be safe. I couldn't let him know who I am since that would endanger my identity and one of the reasons why I am here. "We're the same then," He said. "I'm not exactly from around the city, just like you " I nodded. "It's good to here I'm not the only alien out here." I joked. I just felt like I needed to get the awkward vibe off. I didn't want him to ask more about where I come from. "Anyway, what does your parents do?" He said as he started eating. I panicked. This wasn't in my mind when I accepted his invitation. I totally forgot that he could ask me questions that can jeopardize my mission. He was waiting for my answer while he chew on his food. I figured I could lie about it. Yes! There is no other way to get out of this mess. "Zave?" He called me. There that nickname goes again. "Oh, yeah, yeah, my parents, yeah," I nodded as I cut my steak into smaller pieces. "My parents are b-businessmen back in our place, s-small business actually." "Wow, that's awesome," He said. "Yeah, you could s-say that," I nodded without looking at him. It was actually hard to lie straight to his face. It was as if he could bust me anytime soon and that won't be good. I started eating and I hoped he wouldn't go into deeper topics anymore. I don't want to spend my night lying and making imaginary scenarios for him. "Well... how was it?" He said and I furrowed my brows. "How was what?" I asked. Are we still talking about my parents? "The, uhm, steak," He pointed on my plate. "How was it?" I almost breathed out in relief. Thank heavens he didn't push the topic any deeper. I smiled and nodded. "It's great, actually, I like it," I said as I ate some more. Well, I can't blame the people dining in here, they serve the best and one can surely get what they pay them for; quality food and respectable services. ~~~ It was a great night after all. Dale drove me home after dinner and he was true to his words; just dinner. It took us only a few minutes before he parked at my apartment building. "Well, this is you," He said and went out of the car. I did the same as well. "Thank you for tonight," I said when I was out and was standing next to him. "I had fun." "I had fun too." Dale said and smiled. The smile that girls have been digging for. I was the one to break our staring contest after he said that. "I-I should get inside," "Y-Yeah, totally," He said and laughed awkwardly. "I'm going home as well." I nodded. "Bye,"I said as I walked towards the entrance of the building. He didn't leave instead he just waved at me and waited until I was ready inside before he went back to his car. I smiled. Wow,I didn't expect things to turn out that way. I think he's kind and that he was just a misjudged spoiled brat that his parents thought of him.
