Vel’s POV
I showed Max my schedule and he said that my next class wouldn’t be that far from where we were standing. As a junior student, I know that he must have known every single place on this campus.
“I see that you’re taking up a business course,” Max said when we were walking towards my classroom.
“Yeah, how about you?” I said.
“Me? I am taking up architecture,” He said.
“Wow, that is nice,” I said.
“I actually like it,” He said. “It’s what I really want too.”
“That’s really great,” I said.
“How about you? Is that your chosen field?” He said.
“Well, yeah, it’s what I like too,” I said.
He nodded. “Where did you study junior and senior high?”
I didn’t know whether I would tell him or not. In the end, I chose the safest answer.
“How about you? I haven’t seen you before? Have you studied at this school since you were a kid?” I said since this school also has grade school and junior high on the other side of the campus.
“Yeah, I did,” He said.
“Wow, that is nice,” I said before he could even ask for anything else. “You must be so good, seeing that you are already in your third year in architecture,”
“Nah, not really,” He said and laughed. I couldn’t help but look at him. Max is a fine guy; he has fair skin, clean-cut hair, nice eyes, and lips too. He’s handsome, I must say. He is the fresh kind of handsome. I can’t even help but notice that some of the students were looking at us as we passed by them. I wouldn’t blame them; they must have a crush on him or even admire him so much.
“Hi, Max,” A student who looked like she was about to burst like a tomato in redness said.
Max only smiled at her but, by the looks of it, she was about to lose herself.
“I didn’t know you were famous here,” I teased him.
“I’m not,” He said and laughed.
“Humble,” I said and laughed with him. I never knew I could laugh as well as that with a newly acquired friend.
“This right here is your room,” He said after a couple of seconds. I nodded. I still have time before class starts.
“Thank you for walking with me here; I really appreciate it,” I said.
“It was my pleasure,” He said. “And I had fun too.”
“Really?” He nodded. “Me too,” I said and smiled.
It was a bit awkward but I took the first move to say goodbye.
“I should get inside,” I said. “Thank you again,”
“Yeah, sure,” He said.
I turned to the door and waved at him. He didn’t move; he just stayed there until I was able to get inside. I sighed. It was true though that I had fun talking to him. He was so light to be with and I feel like he’s not the bad boy type of student, unlike that Sanders guy. Oh, wait… why am I even thinking about him? Why am I comparing them? Jeez, Vel, get a hold of yourself, I thought to myself.
I sat on a vacant chair in the corner and put down my bag. I took my phone and saw messages from mom and Nikki. They said that they already miss me and they can’t wait for me to visit. I smiled and texted back. I told them that I missed them too and that I couldn’t wait to be home as well. This is actually the first time that I have been far from home and my family, and heaven knows how hard it is. When I came here a few days ago to check on my apartment and settle down, I was so heartbroken knowing that I would leave them for quite a while. I would cry every night because I missed being with them, but I had to fight the loneliness and fight for my dreams. I just console myself by saying that this will change our lives. I would do this for my family so that I could help them in the future.
My apartment was arranged by Mr. and Mrs. Sanders. They said that it was also free and that I no longer have to worry about anything at all. The apartment was nice too, and it’s very spacious. It has one bedroom and one bathroom and a small receiving area. It even has all the things that I needed. It is really too much for me but they really insisted that I stay here, so I did. They also asked me if I already had a phone and I said yes, but they wanted to buy me the newest phone model so I could communicate with them better. That’s why I have a nice phone with me.
I snapped back to the present when I heard students coming in. It looked like my classmates from earlier were here too. I sat properly and just focused on my phone. Nikki replied to my message and I couldn’t help but smile. She is just so adorable and she never fails to let me know how much she loves and misses me.
“You look like a crazy woman smiling all by herself,” I heard a familiar voice and I immediately knew who it was.
I turned beside me and Dale was sitting there. Why would he sit right next to me when clearly there were a lot of vacant chairs in the room?
“Mind your own business,” I said annoyed.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I just thought that maybe because you made a comment about me, I could also do the same to you,” He said with a smirk.
“Whatever,” I said and put my phone back on my bag.
“Oh? You aren’t going to text your new admirer anymore? It seemed to me like you were having fun just before I came in,” he said.
“Admirer?” I said. What the hell is he talking about?
“Everyone knows about it; he even walked you here,” He said.
“Max? Admirer? You really are a dirty-minded creature,” I said.
“What?!” He said and laughed. “I didn’t say anything!”
“Just shut up,” I said. “And if possible, can you not talk to me?” I turned my back to him and took my notebook. I don’t have time for proud and arrogant human beings right now. I heard him laugh but I didn’t dare look at him.
“Dale, are you going to play later?” I heard someone yell.
“Yeah, sure,” The brute beside me answered. Play? What does that mean? Do I have to follow him to know what that is so I can report that to his parents? I groaned softly. I hate that, of all people, he’s the one I have to spy on.
