Miranda came up angrily, and slapped Flora on the face.
"So it was you, huh! I’ve felt it strange that such a docile child as Agnes suddenly attempted suicide by hitting herself against the wall. It was you who was stirring things up! "
Flora was stunned by Miranda’s sudden attack. Her head was buzzing from the slap. She covered her face with her hand, and stared at Miranda with her mouth open.
The pain didn’t set in until after a while, as well as the taste of blood.
"Aunt Miranda, it's not like that. I can explain..."
Seeing Miranda's grim expression, Agnes explained to her.
"Mom, Flora didn't urge me to commit suicide. She just told me to make a scene in Mr Jenkins’ ward. Flora only did this for my good. She hopes I can be with Malcom. "
Flora couldn’t wait to tear her mouth apart.
This fool! Just shut up if she didn’t know what to say and what not to say!
Miranda was even more angry after hearing this. She pointed at Flora’s nose and began to swear.
"Flora, Flora, we have raised you for 15 years. We provide you with the best food and the best clothing. And is this how you repay me?"
"You urged my daughter to commit suicide, and now what? You want the whole family to walk into destruction?"
"A dog would watch my door and wag his tail, and you! You ungrateful b***h!”
Miranda kept shouting and swearing, leaving no chance for Flora to interrupt.
The pain in her face and the sense of shame brought by Miranda’s words made her cry in humiliation.
Agnes eyed Flora with interest, and kept stirring things up like she always did.
"Mom, please don't say that. Flora did this for my good. She just doesn't the pros and cons involved. She didn't mean it."
Miranda was so angry that she pointed at the door and said angrily, "Get out! Leave!”
Flora wanted to beg for mercy, but after 15 years of living together, she knew Miranda wouldn’t hear it.
She covered her face with her hand and ran out with her head bent down.
Miranda was breathing rapidly. She spat on the floor and swore at Flora’s back: "Ungrateful b***h!”
Agnes touched Miranda’s arm, and comforted her gently: "Mom, don't be so angry."
Miranda took a deep breath to calm her anger, and sat at the bedside. She patted Agnes’ head.
"Get some sleep. I’ll be here."
Before this incident happened, Miranda was about to enter the elevator when she received a message from Agnes, saying that she was afraid and wanted her company. Miranda immediately left the company and rushed to the hospital.
Agnes smiled and hugged Miranda tightly. She gave Miranda a big kiss on the cheek, and her voice was trembling when she began to talk.
"Mom, I love you!"
In this life, she would protect her mother.
Even if she couldn’t expose her father, she would never let him run away with his scheme.
Miranda said with both resignation and love: "You silly little thing. If you really love me like you said, just behave yourself, and don't hurt yourself again."
Agnes nodded and closed her eyes underMiranda's gaze.
She was awakened by Nick.
He pulled a long face, and frowned his brows, looking furious.
"Agnes, what happened between you and Flora? Flora came up to me crying. She wouldn’t tell me what went wrong. "
Nick took out a box of cigarettes from his pocket, held one in his mouth, and lighted it with a lighter.
Agnes was having a bad headache. She felt sick after Nick shook her violently by the shoulder.
She stared at the small fire from his cigarette, and didn’t try to hide her discontent: "Dad, this is the hospital."
Nick paused for a moment, and seeing the grim expression on Agnes’ face, he quietly put the lighter back into his pocket.
"Agnes, what's going on?"
Expressionless, Agnes said coldly, "If she told you everything was okay, then everything was okay."
"She was crying, and someone had slapped her! It's not OK!" Nick was so angry that he began to shout.
Agnes looked at Nick and sneered: "Are you implying that I slapped Flora?"
"I'm not..."
Agnes interrupted him and said coldly, "I just had a concussion. Any movement would bring a headache. How would I have the strength to slap her? And why would I slap her? "
Nick was struck dumb.
"I also wonder what happened to her. I wonder what made you so angry that you couldn’t wait to wake me up and question me, despite my bad injury and near death."
Agnes eyed Nick with a smile. Seeing him panic, she said, "You should call Flora to come here. Let's ask her face-to-face what wrong she has suffered that “my” father came here to lash out at me."
She put a stress on the word "my" deliberately.
Nick quickly explained with a forced smile: "Agnes, honey, you are being too sensitive. I was not lashing out at you. It’s just that I saw Flora crying. And her cheek was swollen, so I came her to ask if you know anything.”
"Dad, you are so kind to Flora. You get nervous just because she had a swollen cheek. I received only scolding for my near death."
Nick gave an awkward smile: "Agnes, I’m your father. Are you going to hold a grudge against me for just a little scolding? "
"Flora is different. She doesn’t have any close relatives left. As you know, I lived a poor and tough life when I was young, and it was Flora's grandmother who had took care of me. "
"Flora is a pitiful child. With her father gone, her mother had been having a hard time take care of her! I brought Flora to our home, partly because I want to repay Flora’s grandmother, partly because I want you to have a company. "
"I’ve been good to Flora only for your sake. I want her to be your right hand when you take over Gilbert Group, don’t you see?"
Afraid of being exposed, Nick said a lot to Agnes.
Agnes gave a faint smile, as if she had never doubted Nick’s intention: "Dad, I didn’t mean anything when I said those words. Why are you being no nervous? I almost thought you were scheming something."
Nick glared at her and said crossly: "What in the world could I be scheming? You silly child. Always talking so bluntly.”
After a pause, he forced another smile: "Have some rest. I’m leaving for work."
Agnes yawned and said idly: "Dad, you are always busy with work. You can’t even find time to keep me company. But now you have time to come here for Flora. People would think she is your daughter."
Nick panicked for a second, and said with a long face, his voice raised unconsciously: "Nonsense! Get some sleep. I’m leaving.”
He turned and hurriedly left the room even before finishing those words.
He left so hurriedly as if there was a vicious dog chasing after him, waiting to bite.
Agnes gazed at the deserted doorway, and a cold chill shot up her spine.
Flora was Nick’s beloved daughter. She, the lawful daughter, could in no way rival the illegitimate one.
Agnes made a call to Flora, and told her that Nick had just been here; that he questioned Agnes and lashed out at her for Flora’s sake.
"Agnes, listen to me, I..."
"I have a headache. I’m going to sleep now." Agnes said in a cold voice.
She quickly hang up the phone, and headed for No. 6 VIP ward slowly.
