When she saw her rustic, cabin-like pack house she picked up her stride, her steps echoing loudly against the stone path. Aurelia flung open the screen side-door entrance to the pack house and bounded up the winding oak staircase, skipping every other step, until she made it to the safety of the violet-colored walls of her room.
"Our mate! Our mate! He's near!" Aurelia's wolf, Amerie, howled in her head.
Aurelia could picture her wolf prancing excitedly in her mind as she purred, "I can't wait to meet our fated!" and Aurelia sighed, knowing her feelings were the exact opposite of her wolf. Aurelia finally met and spoke to her wolf, Amerie, on her 18th birthday during her first change. Hence, her and every other wolves' second middle name; a representation and acknowledgment of their first change and an introduction to the other half of their souls; their wolf.
Aurelia didn't have any time to process what was happening when she heard her mother call "Evie, darling! Hurry, you must hurry! The Royal Storm Riders Pack just crossed our pack's borders! Alpha Demetrius has already departed with his Beta and Gamma to welcome them. They have instructed us to bring your brothers to the Recreation Hall. I hope everything is perfect and prepared…" her mother continued to nervously ramble on.
Aurelia listened and hesitantly left the comfort of her room to join her mother, knowing her Moon-Fated Mate would soon claim her as his. In the back of her mind, Aurelia always knew this fateful day would come and while she was screaming inside, her stomach in knots, her outside demeanor never wavered. Aurelia managed to keep herself as calm as possible, all while reassuring her mother that everything was prepared for this special occasion.
She watched as her mother took the twins from their playpen and strapped them into their stroller before starting their walk to the Recreation Hall. Listening to her brothers' quarrel, Aurelia walked slowly behind her mother, taking in her surroundings. Every scent, sight, and sound she would etch into her very being; knowing that she might not get the opportunity to see this wonderful place she called home again once her mate claimed her. She figured she would be destined to leave the Whispering Woods Pack when she realized, after almost 3 years, that her Moon-Fated Mate wasn't a pack member here. As the Recreation Hall came into view Aurelia noticed a caravan of large, black carriages parking in the distance pulled by mesmerizing Clydesdale equines.
That's when she saw him. Exiting the back seat of the nearest carriage, and the invigorating scent of autumn musk and crisp cinnamon etched into her when Amerie shouted "MATE!"
His stormy eyes locked onto hers in realization as he boomed, "MATE!" and started moving in their direction.
Aurelia could have sworn she heard her mother gasp and begin to speak, however, her mother's voice faded into the background as she stared at the magnificent creature before her. With his whole aura strongly emitting authority and respect, he made his way towards her. He was devilishly handsome with light tan skin, a muscular build, long raven-black hair which stopped at his chiseled jawline and she had to guess he must have been at least 6'3" because he towered over every other male there.
Aurelia's feet, unbeknownst to her, started to inch forward and she noticed his bright, icicle-blue, round eyes, held captive by long and thick, black lashes. She pictured her Sanctuary, the colors of the crystal clear waters of the quarry during the Spring, just after all the ice would break up and melt away. She swore she could feel the chill on her skin caused by the early morning air and remembered how the Sun would make the blue hues of the water change so fluidly as it peeked over the horizon. She was simply spell-bound, as if her wolf, Amerie, had taken over her movements, though she knew in her heart that Amerie wasn't in control, and Aurelia resented herself for being so transfixed by the mate bond she vowed to resent.
She snapped back into reality when she felt his hand tenderly embrace her cheek as he growled into her ear, "My Moon-Fated, my lovely mate, I'm Adrian Marcos Damon Vassilis and I'm so blessed to have finally found you."
