Chapter 5: Criminal Assistance (5)
***
A few weeks ago...
It was a late night and a long shift that made Sebastian feel more exhausted than ever. Yet he was out there in a bar with one of his best friends Leonard. They got along well with each other even though they worked very different professions and didn't have their schedules match more often than not.
The night seemed average at first, there were plenty of people dancing around at the bar/club. Drinks everywhere, people hitting on each other as well. Until Sebastian noticed a girl being harassed. She looked small and petite and the man that was next to her was grabbing her hand and trying to pull her aside.
Sebastian quickly took notice of that and headed in their direction, it was difficult to move through the huge crowd of drunk, dancing people but he did his best, while not once taking his eyes off the woman. The woman eventually managed to pull herself away from the other's grasp and she ran in Sebastian's direction.
The woman bumped into Sebastian a bit too harshly as she tripped over herself. "Help me, please... pretend we're dating..." She said with a low voice and a pleading expression as she clung to him.
Sebastian had always had a weak spot for women, especially those that made him feel like they needed to be protected. He shot a glare at the man as if warning him. The other turned around and walked away with an angry huff.
"Thank you so much... you have no idea how scared I was... he just... he out of nowhere grabbed me and he was trying to make me go with him and..." The woman's voice sounded as if she was about to cry. She looked up at the man with teary eyes.
"I believe you, don't worry... I saw it all happen..." Sebastian reassured her. 'Anyone would be scared of a creep like that, next time I see him I'll take him to the station...' He thought to himself while the woman was still clinging onto him.
"He's gone now... right?" She asked while her entire body was shivering. She looked far too scared to even turn and look behind her.
"Yes... he's gone... It's alright now." Sebastian said in a reassuring voice. The woman meekly let go of him and took a step back.
"Thank you so much..." She said as she looked up at him with a smile. "I'll go and get to my car now... even though I'm still aa bit scared."
"I'll help you, don't worry..." Sebastian sad as the two of them walked outside together.
"Why did you decide to do that for a stranger like me?" The woman asked with a meek sounding voice as she fumbled to find her keys in her bag. She was looking down and there was an obvious look of embarrassment that spread across her face.
"I don't think people need reasons to help each other when in need..." Seebastian sad as he held the woman's purse from underneath so that she can search inside it calmly.
"You're a good man... I can see it in your eyes and willingness to help others..." The woman spoke in a soft voice as she finally found her car keys.
"Most people are nice, that's just the bare minimum..." Sebastian sad as he let go of the purse. The woman stood there for a few seconds as if thinking.
"You're right being nice is the minimum but... being a good person is different from being nice. Nice is a superficial thing, you can be nice on the surface but a total shithead underneath... excuse my language..." The woman said as she looked away embarrassed again.
"I understand..." Sebastian replied as the woman sat down in her car.
"Thank you again... I hope we meet sometime..." She said while flashing him a beautiful smile then driving off with a small wave of the hand.
"Wow..." Sebastian somehow felt weird after that interaction. 'She was really pretty... but it would have been a d**k move to ask for her number, right?' He wondered to himself as he heard someone calling out to him.
"Hey you there! Where did the girl go?" The man asked with a raised voice as he caught up to Sebastian on the parking lot.
"She just left, what kind of business do you have with her?" Sebastian asked as he turned around, he showed his badge to the man. "You might like to think about your answer first." He continued.
"There's nothing to think about!" The man said with the same angry tone as before. "She stole my f*****g wallet and then ran away all scared! f*****g bitch..." The man said as he paced in one and the same place.
"What?" Sebastian asked with a genuinely confused tone of voice. Somehow in his mind it didn't make sense that a gentle looking person like her could steal. But then yet it didn't make a convincing lie for the other person, so why would he say it then?
"Dammit... f*****g dammit... There was a lot of money in there, I was going to pay my kid's tuition tomorrow. They go to that fancy school that takes your arm and leg as collateral... fuck..." The man continued pacing in one and the same place.
"Do you want to file a report with me? I'll be sure to find the woman when I get back to the station..." Sebastian said to the man.
"Wait... your a police man?" The man asked with a bit of a surprised voice.
"Yes, here's my badge..." Sebastian showed it once more and suddenly the man froze.
"Ugh... I wish I could but... even if I do there's no way you'd find her, right? The police have enough trouble as it is... with the Male Slasher and shit..." The man said as he stopped pacing and just looked at the man.
"You're right but still..." Sebastian didn't know what else to do at that moment.
"It's fine..." The man who seemed so concerned just a few seconds ago, was now as calm as can be and simply waved the man goodbye as he headed back into the club.
'What a weird night...' Sebastian thought to himself as he put his hands in his pockets, something left him unsettled...
***
"You..." Sebastian pressed his finger tips on the top of his head and sighed in a low and deep voice as if he was tired. "You're trying to tell me that the woman I saved that night was you?"
"Yep~ That's exactly what I said, you also helped me get the dude's wallet. There was quite a bit of money in it as well." Irene said with a cheerful smile across his face as he looked up at the taller man.
"As if it wasn't enough that I aided a criminal... I was tricked by a man..." Sebastian seemed truly disappointed in his own abilities.
"Awwh~ Don't be like that, anyone would have been tricked, I told you I was good!" Irene said in a sort of consoling manner, but it didn't seem to do much to make the other feel better. "And besides, that pig deserved it... Honestly I should have done worse but I was asked not to..."
"Hm?" Sebastian crossed his arms at the man. "Why exactly did you rob him?" He asked. 'It's true he did act quite different after he found out I was a policeman.' He thought to himself.
"That sack of horse crap took a lot of money from a few precious little things. So I had to take it back, that's all..." Irene said as he shrugged his shoulders as if he didn't know what else to tell the man. But then he felt Sebastian's hand grab onto his collar.
"Speak." Sebastian said as he looked at the man with a sort of glare only a police man could have against a criminal.
"Aww... you're being so forward, I like that about you~" Irene without a bit of fear detectable simple chuckled at the man's attempt to be intimidating. "But if you really want information from me, shouldn't you kiss me instead of manhandling me?" He asked as he pointed to his lips and smiled.
"......" Sebastian took a look around the room.
"There's no one else here... you better do it now before the rest of them come along." Irene said in the same carefree manner as before.
'This guy... pressuring me...' Sebastian thought to himself but being left with no choice leaned in and kissed the man. It was a quick kiss but to Irene it seemed to mean he'd won a small battle and that seemed to be all that was important to him.
"Alright, now I'll tell you..." Irene said as he leaned back in his chair, the other's grip on his collar had loosened. "That shitstain was a pimp, and a nasty one at that... He took all the money the girls made that month, leaving them with nothing for themselves. So I went to the bar where he frequents, since I knew he had the habit of bringing money money than he needs with him, that day it happened to be his children's tuition." He explained. "I dressed up as a woman to seduce him just a bit then I got his wallet, but who would have thought he'd find out I stole it so quickly, that man was truly an i***t of a high caliber..."
"There was a recent murder case on a pimp..." Sebastian remarked lowly under his breath.
"Oh? So you've found the body already... I didn't hear anything on the news tho?" Irene tilted his head to the side as if he was interested.
"Could it be you had something to do with it?" Sebastian asked with the most serious tone of voice. "Did you kill him?"
"Nope~ I didn't kill the guy, I just robbed him and gave the money back to the pretty ladies. Someone else must have done him in, I mean it's not like he was a good guy or anything..." Irene said as he shrugged his shoulders once more.
"Then how did you know about his death?" Sebastian questioned while never once looking away from the criminal.
"Obviously word spreads fast underground... It's not difficult to find out a pig has died..." Irene said as he crossed his arms, sort of imitating what the police officer was doing.
".........." Sebastian remained silent at those words. 'He's not going to tell me more than this... he's hiding something for sure...' He thought to himself.
"Well, anyways we should get ready for the mission tonight. It's going to be exciting of course..." Irene said as he smiled and looked through the documents left on top of the man's desk. Not really reading any of them, rather just looking though them as if trying to keep himself entertained.
"Tonight? I didn't hear anything about the operation-" Sebastian was interrupted by the other man bringing out his phone out and showing him something.
"I already have a date with someone I suspect is the criminal~ You can thank me later in bed." Irene said with a smile while showing it to the man.
"How do you know it's him?" Sebastian asked as he took the phone in his hand and looked through the profile, there wasn't anything suspicious to begin with.
"Haha... it's that, see?" Irene pointed to the pictures. "They're fake, good fakes but fakes... the real criminal wouldn't really want to show his face, would he? And this... he doesn't have anything creepy or demanding in his profile either, no pictures with fish... no misogynistic comments, nothing that would make it obvious he's a bad guy..."
"That doesn't mean much... there should be plenty of guys that-" Sebastian was interrupted once more.
"Oh you sweet summer child... That's just wishful thinking on your end~ Truth is guys on dating sites are all assholes, you won't find a good one there because all the good ones don't spend hours on end swiping on women that will never swipe back on them." Irene explained as he showed more from the man's profile to the officer. "This guy here though seems perfect, far too perfect... which is why he's the most suspicious, after all he wants to attract women, you know? It's obvious he's good at manipulating others as well and finally... the thing that makes me sure that he is our suspect is that he just so happens to want to meet at a cafe at Vindale street..."
"What?! You've already spoken to him... and arranged a date? When did you even make the profile and-?" There was far too many questions coursing through Sebastian's mind at that point. But one thing that Irene had made obvious time and time again was... that he was the one in control and the police were simply following his lead.
"You ask too many questions, I know you're a cop and everything but it's seriously such a turn off..." Irene complained as he stood up. "I'll go tell the chief about this and give you the credit. So be greatful."
"Wait, I have to come with you-" Sebastian felt Irene's finger on the top of his lips.
"It's fine, I won't runaway or cause havoc, just trust me, I told you I'll be your partner and help you..." Irene's voice suddenly didn't seem so carefree as before, in fact it almost seemed as if the man had a soft spot for Sebastian who he'd only interacted a few times outside of the station.
Sebastian backed away, not really saying anything anymore. He touched the top of his lips after the man left, feeling confused as to why he listened to a criminal...
