Chapter 4: Criminal Assistance (4)

"Men, we've been trying to locate the most likely place where the murderer will strike next but... unfortunately we couldn't find any pattern to his crimes..." The speaker was one of the superior officers but not really one on top. His name was Joseph Hardway.
"But there is a pattern though..." Irene was the one to speak up, his voice sounded bored as if he already wanted to leave the meeting that had started no less than five minutes ago.
"What might that be?" Joseph asked as he turned to Irene who casually stood up and walked up next to him.
Extending his hand Irene said. "Give me the marker..."
Joseph was confused at first but then handed it to the man and took a step aside from the board he was writing on.
"So... if you rearrange the placed he's hit by now you'll see the criminal is a dumb ass..." Irene spoke as he put the names of the streets down a line. "He might have a form of OCD as well as it seems that everything he does has this level of obsessive perfection to it... even the street names are just the Alphabet but backwards... so we have Zentra, which is over here off to the east end in the lower suburbs... then there's Yren which is all the way off here in the middle class distrinct and it continues to street Xon and Wes, which happen to be next to each other."
Pausing for a little bit, Irene looked at the map and finally circled a street. "The next crime scene will probably be here in Vindale street, probably one of the higher numbers since they're more secretive..." He explained as he turned to the chief who stood there in awe, the rest of the officers were no less surprised.
"Hm..." Bernard took a look at the case file once more. "I can't deny this is a posibility... maybe we've overlooked this pattern..."
"Sir, that's simply stupid... there's no way the criminal is choosing these random streets just because they happen to start with the letter he needs them to start with!" Joseph turned to his chief officer. "What's more... trusting a criminal to help with the investigation is silly. What if he's working together with the murderer and-" Suddenly he felt a tap at his shoulder.
"Hey there... big guy, I don't know what you've heard about me and I don't care but..." Irine's expression shifted from that of an innocent and beautiful man, to one of a sinister almost demonic looking man. "Don't ever say I work along side s**t stains like that criminal..." His tone was deeper than before but otherwise sounded calm, however the seeting anger in the man's eyes was unmistakable.
"What on earth... as if I'd be scared by a criminal like you." Joseph turned to face the man completely. "If you want to go back to the prison cell you came from, I'd be happy to escort you there." He said as he looked down at the shorter man.
"Really? You talk big for someone who only knows how to lick boots... Pig." Irene crossed his arms as he looked up at him with a look of indifference and a hint of mockery. He obviously wasn't taking Joseph seriously and it annoyed the man to no end.
"You-" Before Joseph could say another world however, Bernard approached him in a more level headed manner.
"We'll follow through with the plan. Irene is a criminal himself, which gives us insight into the mind of the man we're trying to capture. Let's follow his assumptions." Bernard said as he broke off the tension that had been building between the two.
Taking the hint, Irene stepped aside, knowing there was no reason to fight here, especially not with those he found to be beneath himself. While Joseph lowered his head in front of his officer and moved back as well.
"Sir... even if his theory is correct... That wouldn't explain how he finds his victims. He couldn't be just standing at the streets and waiting for someone with fair skin, dark hair and that age group to pass by, that's simply too specific." Another officer spoke up out of turn as he pointed to the board.
Irene smiled as he glanced at the man that spoke. "Of course officer Cherry, that also has an explanation." He said as he turned back to the crowd of officers.
"...cherry...?" The officer that spoke's name was 'Chester' instead but it seemed like Irene had purposefully made a name for him.
"The criminal's using dating apps to get his victims..." Irene said as he went to the desk and began looking through the documents. "It's quite convenient, isn't it? Some apps even allow you to sort people by their complexion, interests, hair color and age... It wouldn't take him long to find someone he likes and then ask her to meet him on a particular street."
"...that would be assuming that they agree to meet him." Chester remarked in a bit of awe as he watched the man move around the room so freely, even though he was a criminal himself.
"He must be quite charming, even though he seems stupid." Irene explained as he looked through the files. "There isn't an easy way to find him either... since stupid people are the most cautious of all..." He continued.
"I want you to investigate all the victim's phones." Bernard said as he turned to one of the officers sitting next to him.
"It won't be very useful... I believe the criminal is actually deleting the apps off the phone, thus erasing his existence..." Irene said as he sighed a bit at the officer's own stupidity. "You'd have better luck asking the friends of the victims, not the families since more than likely they wouldn't know either way..."
"Understood." Bernard nodded his head and signaled to his officers to investigate. "Anything else we might have overlooked?" He asked while turning back to the man.
"Hm... for now..." Irene tilted his head to the side while looking at the repots, then with a smile remarked. "Nope~! You're all good!" He headed back to Sebastian's side, but not before shooting one final glare at Joseph who looked less than happy with the way things were proceeding.
The meeting was concluded then and there, and both Sebastian and Irene headed out the room and into the corridor...
"How did you know?" Sebastian asked as he walked behind the man. Still not able to figure out the other's train of thought and how he got to his conclusions on the case.
"How did I know what? The criminal's intentions? Or his next crime scene? Or his method to find victims? Be more specific please~" Irene said as he turned to look at the man, then began walking the same speed he did so that they'd be next to each other.
"All of it..." Sebastian said as they headed to the main room, where all their desks were. His desk in particular was off to the side away from the entrance, it was quite secluded since not many people walked through there on the daily.
"Well... I'm a criminal too so I know how they think, I guess it's that simple~" Irene said with a smile.
"......." Sebastian watched the man in silence.
"You're not satisfied with that answer... well alright then..." Irene paused for a bit and sighed as he began explaining. "I'd already asked around underground for a bit, nobody had heard of him... so I searched the crime scenes themselves and I found a few indicators he might have a condition. Which lead me to believe he did things in a particular way... All of it piled up on top of each other and I finally reached this conclusion. You happy with that?"
"You're much smarter than I initially assumed." Sebastian remarked as he crossed his arms. 'Maybe even too smart for comfort...' He thought to himself.
"Haha... you have no idea how many people think the same way you do~ Though you're the only one that makes it so adorable..." Irene said with a light giggle in his voice. He leaned in and smiled at the man. "It makes me want to treat you lovingly but at the same time makes me want to bully you, it's really the best!"
"Why do you even like me that much?" Sebastian asked as they both sat down at the man's desk. There was about thirty minutes until their break was over and most of the other officers and staff weren't in the room, so it was just the two of them talking.
"Well... that should be obvious..." Irene said with a smile...
