Chapter 7 Painless Induced Abortion

863 Words
"What's going on?" Ellen cried out. Suddenly, something occurred to her. "Wasn't the culprit the one who paid for everything?" They'd had to spend a lot of money on her medical bill and for her son's funeral. Emily had even given her a sum of money, saying that it was the remainder of the culprit's compensation. Emily didn't know what to say. It was much too shameful to even mention. Her silence was equivalent to a silent admission. Ellen's heart ached at the thought of Emily having to get the money on her own. She said disbelievingly, "Don't tell me you... you sold yourself..." She grabbed Emily's wrist. "You can't keep this baby. We need to go to the hospital right now!" "Why?" Emily tried to break free. "Your whole life will be ruined if you keep this baby!" Now that Emily was married, her whole life would be ruined if someone were to find out about the baby's existence." "Mum, please, let me keep the baby." Emily pleaded while crying. No matter how Emily begged, Ellen's attitude remained firm. She dragged Emily to the hospital that day itself. She threatened Emily with her own life when Emily refused to go. Emily was left with no choice. She had to go through several tests before the procedure, and while Ellen was away getting the results of her tests, Emily sat on one of the benches lining the corridor with her hands over her abdomen. She couldn't stop crying. She felt both helpless and full of sorrow. "Dylan, I'm fine. It's nothing to worry about, really. It's just a small burn." Brianna smiled. She was wearing a form-fitting black dress, and she had a suit jacket wrapped around her shoulders. Dylan had a white shirt on with the sleeves rolled up, revealing his toned arms. He looked worried. "You might scar if it's not treated properly." Brianna leaned into his arms. "Will you love me less if I do scar?" "Nonsense!" Brianna giggled. She knew that Dylan wasn't a superficial person. This voice... Emily slowly raised her head. She saw Brianna and Dylan heading in her direction. They looked like a perfect match. It made her look like a clown. She'd lost her innocence at such a young age and had even got impregnated. Emily stared at them, lost in thought. She suddenly caught sight of a sliver of surprise. "Next, please." The door to the operating theatre opened and a nurse stood there. Behind her, a young woman walked out with her hand over her abdomen. She muttered, "It's supposed to be a painless procedure, isn't it? Why does it still hurt so f*cking much?" Dylan frowned as his gaze settled on Emily's face. She'd pretended to care about the child so much in front of him, but here she was, for an abortion. He sneered to himself. Brianna followed Dylan's line of sight. When she saw Emily, she felt that Emily seemed familiar, but she couldn't recall where she'd seen her. She asked Dylan, "Do you know her?" "No, I don't." Dylan curled his lip coldly. He'd already pegged Emily as an improper woman who'd got herself pregnant at such a young age. She'd pretended to be a loving mother in front of him, but here she was, getting an abortion. What a scheming woman! "Have you thought it through?" The nurse asked. Emily didn't want anyone to witness her shame. Despite her unwillingness, heartache, and helplessness, she still nodded. "Yes, I've thought it through." "Come with me, then." Emily kept her head bowed, not wanting to look at anyone as she followed the nurse into the operating theatre. The moment the door was shut, they were separated from the outside world. Brianna felt a vague sense of unease. She could feel that Dylan was mad and reached out to hold his arm. She called gently, "Dylan." Dylan's face was cold as he said, "Let's go." Brianna tightened her grip on his arm. She turned back to look at the operating theatre, then at Dylan's reaction. That woman didn't seem to really be someone that he didn't know, but Brianna had been with him long enough to know that no other woman had appeared by his side. So who was that woman? And why was Dylan so mad? "Dylan, that girl..." Dylan wrapped an arm around her, not wanting to continue with this topic. "It's someone unimportant. There's no need to worry about her." Brianna had no choice but to keep her mouth shut despite her curiosity. In the operating theatre, Emily couldn't help backing away at the sight of all the icy instruments laid out. No, she couldn't give up on her baby! "Lie down here." The doctor said. "No, I've changed my mind." Emily shook her head, then turned and ran out. She was in such a hurry to get away that she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings. She ended up running right into a man who was surrounded by people. She held a hand to her forehead and apologised profusely. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." "Emily Davis?" Harold Johns looked at her. His gaze and tone were both unsure.
