I am at work, in a meeting pitching my designs to a client when I get a call from an unknown number. I ignore it. Had it been Jay, he would have left a text if it were something important. The rest of it, I can handle later on. I turn the phone onto the silent mode and then get back to work.
A couple of hours later I am done and I call back home. My sleepy husband picks up the call to let me know that the three of them are napping. They fell asleep watching some movie about a dog together and now the girls want a dog. I chuckle over the phone at his distressed voice. He hadn't called me since morning because he knew I'd be busy with work.
I had a couple of missed calls from that unknown number, and I call them back but nobody answers so I let it go.
I get a text from Jay asking me to pick up dinner on the way home so I stop to get some Chinese for all of us before driving back home.
I am greeted by a very tired husband and two over-enthusiastic littles at home.
"Welcome home, daddy!!!" The girls jump on my arms the moment I enter the home. Jay breathes a sigh of relief. He is looking hot sitting on the carpet in his shorts, with his messy hair and a thank god you're home look.
"Hi" I smile at him.
"Hi, thank God you're back." He smiles and lays down on the carpet, inside the blanket fort.
"Go, freshen up! I'll set the table." I tell him as I kiss the girls on the cheek.
"What did you girls do to daddy, huh?" I ask them and they giggle. I take them to the table and set them down on their highchairs.
I love how lovely my life and my little family is. It's not perfect and like every other family, we have good days and bad but we are at least in it together and there is so much love, and ice creams. I think back to all that we have lived through to come to this point in life and it's almost magical. It's more than I have ever asked for. I couldn't have been a happier man.
