Chapter Three

Anthony's Pov: "You did what?" Darrell asked me. "Are you serious right now, bro?" I sighed and nodded my head before taking a bite out of the pizza the cafeteria got from Pizza Garden. Every Friday, they had pizza and I never missed this day. Their pizza was the f*****g best! Other than that, f**k the other food they had. "Yeah, I am." I told him. Justin put his Cactus Cooler done and stared at me with wide eyes. "You broke up with Madilyn last night?" He questioned me. "Yeah." "Why in the f**k would you do that? You guys were like the power couple at this school." I opened my Sprite and chugged it. Justin and Darrell waited for me to finish so they could hear my side. Once I got done, I put the half-full can down and looked around before turning my eyes back to them. "She's too perfect." I whispered to them. "What the hell do you mean 'too perfect'?" Justin asked me. "Wait, wait, wait... Are you telling us what I think you're telling us?" I nodded my head and Darrell just drunk his soda in silence. "I'm not getting it." Justin told me. "She's f*****g gorgeous." "Yeah, but she wasn't putting out." Darrell told him, bluntly. Justin stared at me and I just shrugged. "She can find someone that's willing to wait until marriage." I told them. "Get the f**k out of here." Justin told me. "She wanted you to wait until you're 40?" I kicked him under the table and Darrell burst into a fit of laughter. "I can't even knock you, bro." Darrell told me. "I would've dumped her, too." I chuckled and went back to eating. We finished our lunch and got up from the lunch tables. Just as we were walking out, Crystal and Madilyn were walking in. Madilyn and I exchanged glances, but she rolled them before walking off with her friend. "Don't worry about him." Crystal told her. "He's a dog." That caught me offguard. Instead of letting it go, I decided that it was time for Madilyn and I to talk face to face. "I'll be back." I told Darrell and Justin. I turned and rushed over to Madilyn and Crystal. "We need to talk." I told Madilyn, then glanced at Crystal. "Privately." Madilyn rolled her eyes again and looked in another direction. "I have nothing to say to you." Madilyn responded. "Well, I have a lot to say." I told her. "Then talk." Crystal said. "Other than that, she doesn't need to talk to you about anything." "I'm not talking to you, so stay out." "When it comes to my best friend, it does!" Everybody in the cafeteria turned to us. Crystal was always loud once it came to peoples' business. She was trying to make me look like the bad person. I rolled my eyes at her before I looked back at Madilyn. She had that sad look on her face as she continued to stare at me. "Can we talk, please?" I asked her. "I don't know." She told me. "I don't want to talk to you right now. To be honest, I have nothing to say to you." "Then, hear me out, okay?" She sighed, then turned to Crystal. "I'll see you in class." She told her. "Don't let him upset you, okay?" Crystal told her friend. "I know." Madilyn and I walked away together, and we headed out the cafeteria. We went to the back of school and walked over to one of the benches. Students were outside, hanging out and talking, so I figured it would be cool for us to talk without anybody trying to listen. We took our seats and looked away from each other. "Um.. How...?" I stopped. Madilyn covered her face with both her hands and burst into tears. I sighed as I turned to her. I hated to see her like that, but I felt it was only right. "Madilyn?" I called her name. "Why?" She sniffled. "Why did you end it? I thought everything was okay. We didn't fight or anything." "Madilyn..." "We were talking about our future together like... I don't get it." She put her hands down and glanced at me with bloodshot eyes. Her face was red from crying. Sighing, I moved closer to her. "Madilyn, I need to be honest with you." I told her. "Okay." She continued to wipe her eyes as she waited for me to continue. "I felt like the relationship wasn't doing any good." I told her. "Why didn't you tell me that when you felt that way?" "Madilyn.." "No, Anthony. What was the reason that this relationship was failing?" Maybe talking to her was the wrong idea. She was still upset since the break-up was new. My dumb ass thought we could have a decent conversation, but I didn't even think that she would be that upset over the relationship. "Anthony..." "Yeah?" "Why did you break up with me? Be honest." "Madilyn, you're too perfect and I felt like you didn't need someone like me in your life." "What do you mean by that?" "Like I felt the relationship wasn't advancing. Like there really was no physical contact with you. Then, the whole thing with you not kissing on the lips. That was a pet peeve for me. You wouldn't kiss me and I thought that you weren't really... Feeling me like that." "Because of me having respect for you? And for me respecting myself for when I got married?" "Madilyn, that's not what I'm..." She shook her head at me and got up from the bench. "Madilyn, wait." I told her. She snapped her eyes at me. "Is the real reason you broke up with me was because I wouldn't put out?" "What? No, that's not it." "It has to be, Anthony. I'm sorry if I want to save myself." She grabbed her backpack off the ground. "I hope you find someone who'll satisfy your needs. It's sad that you couldn't wait for me. We only had one more year to go, but no. You wanted to not even try to make it work." She turned and walked off, leaving me behind. The bell rang and I got up, heading straight to my next period class. I leaned back against the bench and looked up at the sky. Just one glance at the sun and my eyes stung from its brightness. Someone sat next to me and I groaned before I turned to the person. "That was harsh." She spoke. "You were listening?" I asked her. "Yeah. You basically rambled on and on like a f*****g idiot." "Man, f**k off." The new girl was already agitating. She glanced at me before she looked around the area. I sat up and sighed. "What's your name?" I asked her. "Didn't you just tell me to f**k off?" "I didn't mean it." "Hm." She looked at me with those golden brown eyes. "Desire." She told me. "Desire?" "Yes. You got a problem with it?" "No. I just... I mean..." "There you go. Rambling like an i***t again." "Look, I apologize for earlier. Me slamming into you." "I know. You already said it the first time we met." I looked in another direction. "So, where are you from?" She smiled, then looked down at her hands. "Around." She responded. "Do you like it out here?" "It's alright. I just moved here a couple days ago. I won't be here for long, though." "Where do you plan on going?" "We move constantly due to my father's job." "Damn. I wish my parents were like that." I folded my arms over my chest. "Anthony, right?" She asked. I nodded at her. "Yeah, that's my name." "What happened between you and your girlfriend?" "My ex, you mean?" "Whatever." "The relationship wasn't evolving. I felt it was rated PG." "She seemed like a sweet girl." "She is, but... I want to have fun in my relationship, you know." "And she wasn't fun?" I sighed and shook my head. Darrell and Justin walked over to where I was sitting. "Where's Madilyn?" Justin asked. "She stormed off." I told them. "You can't word s**t right, huh?" Darrell asked, then he turned to Desire. "You're the new girl, right? Why the hell did you come here when school is almost out?" I glanced at Desire, who just stared at Darrell with a raised eyebrow. "If I tell you, then I'd have to kill you." She smirked. "That deep, huh?" Darrell asked. "Ha, I'm just kidding. My dad's job forces us to move every six months." "Damn." Justin said. "Where did you come from before?" "New York." She answered. "Did you like it out there?" I asked. "Loved it." She glanced at me. The bell rang. It was time for the next class to begin. We got up and I turned to Desire. "What's your next class?" I asked her. "History with Mr. Robinson." She told me. "Room 331, then. That's my class." "All of our class." "Including your girlfriend?" I frowned at her and she nudged me before grabbing her bag and walking off. "She's fine as fuck." Darrell stated. "Yeah, she is." Justin said. Desire got to the door, then turned to us. "Are you coming?" She asked me. Darrell, Justin and I glanced at each other, then walked over to her. *** "Alright, turn to page 456 in your textbooks!" Mr. Robinson shouted. I took my book out and glanced at Desire, who was sitting on the opposite side of the table. She was just looking around at the others. Her eyes landed on mines. I turned to the front and held my hand up. "Yes, Guerrero?" Mr. Robinson asked. "I can share my book with the new girl if that's okay." I told him. He nodded his head and Desire got up and walked over to where I was sitting. We sat next to each other and I placed the book. "Now..." Mr. Robinson began. I looked at the seat across from view and saw Madilyn looking back at me. She, then looked at Desire before she turned back to the front. "You can always go sit with her." Desire whispered to me. "Why?" I squinted my eyes at her. "Because you want to make things right with her." "You don't know that." "You're right, I don't, but the way you guys keep sneaking glances at each other like kids, tells me that I'm right." She looked at me and I shook my head at her. "Exactly." Desire pushed a strand of her brown hair behind her ear before she turned her focus on the book. Her words stuck to me for a minute. As much as I cared for Madilyn, I didn't want to get back with her. I was hoping that we could be friends, but she wasn't going for that. Us being on bad terms was something I didn't want, that was for sure. "Gurrero..." I mean, who would want to be seen as a enemy in their ex's eyes. Maybe others did that, but I wasn't like that. If it didn't work out in the relationship, then we can go back to the friendship zone. "GUERRERO!" I snapped out of my deep thought and turned my attention to Mr. Robinson. The students in the class laughed. Mr. Robinson shook his head at me. "Whatever has your attention in that little head of yours, needs to hold on. I need you to read page 456." "Okay." I told him and grabbed the textbook off the table before getting up. I read the first two paragraphs for Mr. Robinson then sat back down. Desire grabbed the book from my hand and placed it in the middle. "I don't like her anymore." I told her. She looked at me, then looked back at the book.
