Chapter Two

Desire's Pov: My alarm went off. Sighing, I lifted my head up from the pillow and glanced at the black device, sitting on my nightstand. I pressed the button, turned the alarm off, then got up out of bed. That day, I was starting Cedarwood High as a junior. "Desi, get up!" My mother shouted behind the closed door. "It's time to get ready!" "I hear you!" I shouted back. Getting off the bed, I got undressed and walked to the bathroom. I was happy I had one of those in my room. Now, I didn't have to fight someone for it. After taking a long shower and freshening up, I walked out of the bathroom and headed straight to my closet. Hm, I wasn't sure what to wear. I had so many outfits in that big closet that it was going to take me a minute to find what I wanted to wear on my first day. "DESIRE!" Mother shouted from behind my closed bedroom door. I rolled my eyes and quickly grabbed an outfit. Black ripped jeans, a black crop top with Sleep Token and a light black jacket for me to wear. That was definitely going to have to do. "Mom, I'm up." I sighed. "Well, hurry up. Breakfast is ready and your father wants to have a talk with you before you go to school." "Yes, ma'am." My parents got on my nerves. I wasn't excited about starting Cedarwood High. It was the fifth school I had to start that year and quite frankly, I was tired of it. My father's job consisted of him traveling and relocating, so that was the main reason for the constant moves. However, they were beginning to get annoying. I'd make new friends and then, I had to leave because of certain situations. Either, they found out about us or my father hated the way they were treating him at work. "I mean it, Desire." After getting dressed, I walked out of the closet, then headed towards the nightstand where my phone was charging. I took it off the charger and stuffed it in my pocket, then walked to the mirror. "Ugh." I groaned. My hair was hideous. Sighing, I walked back into the bathroom to do something about the huge mop that sat on my head. Searching the drawer, I took out some grease, gel and my curling iron, then went to town on my hair. *** "You look beautiful." Mother smiled. I smiled back at her as I made it to the table. Breakfast smelled so good. Bacon, sausage, eggs and waffles sat on the plate in front of me. I took my seat and grabbed the pitcher of orange juice, so I could pour some into my cup that was already on the table. Father put his newspaper down and glanced at me. "You ready for school?" He asked me. "Yes, father." I nodded before taking a bite out of my food. Father stared at me and I looked in a different direction. My father had those intense golden brown eyes that made me feel uncomfortable. "No releasing your abilities to anybody, Desire. Do you hear me?" "Father, yes. I understand. Gosh, you told me this over and over again." "I want to make sure. This place could last if nothing goes wrong. I'm sorry, but I'm going to continue telling you this. Do you understand?" I finished the food and grabbed my plate before I got up and walked over to the sink. "I'll be taking you to school today." Mother told me. "Why? So you can embarrass me?" I washed the dish I ate from, then turned around to face my mother. She raised an eyebrow at me and sighed. "Get your bag and let's go." She told me. She walked over to father and the two shared a kiss, causing me to gag. I hated seeing them like that. Mother shook her head at me, then walked towards the front door. I rushed back upstairs and grabbed my back that contained my notebook and my pencils in it. "Bye, baby." Father said to me as I walked to the door. "Bye, dad." I walked out of the house and followed my mother to her car. *** Mother parked the car in the school's parking lot. "Let's go." She told me as she turned the car off. We got out and walked through the huge crowd of students that was piling into Cedarwood High. The school was huge. Something I thought I would never see. When I saw the front part, it looked like two schools combined. The colors were green and brown. Nature colors. Nice. As I walked towards the principal's office, I could feel some eyes on me. People looked at me weird and that's what I didn't want to deal with. I was basically going to their school for only two months before their school got out for summer break. Stupid, right? Yeah, that's what I thought. Mother opened the door for me and I walked in first before she came in behind me. "Sit." Mother instructed. I took a seat in the chair and glanced around the school's office. They had so many pictures and images of their school's sports team. Everything on that wall was completely decorated with things that involved their school. Mom stood in front, talking to the secretary. The secretary pushed her glasses back up her nose and glanced at me. "It is impossible for her to come here since school will be out in a couple of months." The secretary told my mother. "I know." Mother agreed. "However, we spoke to Principal Johnson and he said he would allow her into the school for the reasons why she is attending it late." "Hm." I could sense an attitude from the secretary. The best thing about my mom, though, is that she didn't let it bother her. She knew that she could beat her physically with strength and verbally with her words. That's why she kept that big smile on her face. "Give me a moment." The secretary got up from her desk. She walked towards the principal's office and knocked on it before she opened the door and stepped inside. Once she shut the door, mother turned to me with a raised eyebrow. I got up and stood beside my mother, staring at the principal's office. Five minutes had past and the secretary had come back out of the principal's office. However, she wasn't alone. Principal Johnson walked out as well and he walked over to where we were standing. "Ms. Lanier?" He asked. "It's Mrs. Lanier." Mother corrected him, then she pointed to me. "This is my daughter, Desire." "Desire, huh?" Principal Johnson extended his hand out to me and I shook it. Then, I pulled my hand away. "I'm sorry for the problem my secretary gave you." He told us. "Not at all." Mother responded. "She was doing her job." "Well, let's get started shall we?" Principal Johnson went to the file cabinet and searched until he retrieved the folder he was looking for. He shut the cabinet shut, then walked back over to us. He pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to me. "Here's your schedule." He told me. I took the paper from him and looked over the classes. Due to my excellent scoring in the STAR tests, they placed me in junior classes, which was good. I was always up for challenges. "Let's talk more once the bell rings. Shall we?" Mr. Johnson extended his hand out to the front door and I nodded my head, walking past him with mother still beside me. The bell rang and as the three of us left the office, we saw students rushing to get to their class. As soon as I stepped out into the hallway, someone slammed into me hard, knocking me on my ass. My schedule glided onto the other side of me, beside the lockers. "Oh s**t!" The person shouted. "Are you okay?" Mother asked me. I nodded, glaring at the person who knocked me over. Of course, it happened to be a guy. He walked over to my schedule and picked it up. "I'm so sorry." He apologized to him. "I didn't see... I mean, I didn't mean to..." He extended his hand out to me and I smacked it away. "I don't need your help." I snarled at him. I got off the ground, glaring at him. He handed me my paper and I snatched it from him. "Anthony Guerrero..." Mr. Johnson called his name. "Late as usual." "Sir, I can explain that." "Save it. You can explain it at detention after school." Anthony's eyes widened. "Detention?" He asked him. "Sir, I apologized, I didn't mean to bump into her." "And I didn't mean to give you detention. Now, we both didn't mean anything." Anthony smacked his lips and glared at me before he turned and stormed off to his class. Mr. Johnson stopped in front of my mother and me with a concerned look on his face. "I'm so sorry about that." He told my mother. "I will deal with him, immediately." Mother shook her head before smiling at Mr. Johnson. "He's fine." She told him. "I understand how it gets when you are late for class. Nobody wants tardiness on your record." Mr. Johnson nodded his head before the three of us continued down the hall. He showed us the entire school, which took up like 30 minutes of our time, talking about the history of Cedarwood and its goals for the students at the school. "Do you guys have field trips?" Mother asked. "Oh yes, all the time." Mr. Johnson told us. "We go many places. Last year, we took a trip to San Franscisco and we stayed out there for a good five days." "Wow." I said. Mr. Johnson chuckled as we walked up a flight of stairs to get to the second floor, which was surrounded by classes and other important offices. "What do you think of the school so far?" Mr. Johnson asked us. "I'm happy we chose you guys." Mother told him. "It's a very beautiful school. Well-kept together and very organized. There's no trash in sight like the other schools." "Yeah, we don't play with that. While here, we work on teaching the kids to clean up after themselves and to keep everything around them clean." "Very good." We stopped in front of Room 210 and Mr. Johnson turned to me. "Here's your first class. The school bell will be ringing in about 20 minutes." "What class is this?" I asked him as I grabbed the door handle. "It's just homeroom." Mr. Johnson answered. "Okay." I opened the door and stood at the door, glancing around the beige-colored room. There were about 23 students in there, chatting and laughing. When they saw me, though, they stopped. It got quiet. "How can I help you?" A woman came over to me. "Are you lost?" "No, she's not lost." Mr. Johnson said behind me. "She's new and she will be in here for homeroom." "Oh? Okay. " Mother walked over to me and smiled. "You need me, just call." She whispered. "I know." I told her. She kissed me on the top of my head and she walked out the room with Mr. Johnson. "What's your name?" The teacher asked me. "Desire Lanier." I told her. "Wow, that's a beautiful name." "Thank you." "Well, I'm Mrs. Appletree and we'll be seeing each other for the remainder of the school year. You come here every morning, okay?" "Yes, ma'am." "Go ahead and take a seat." I looked around the class. Everybody was just watching me. Girl 1: Oh my god, she's going to be a problem... Girl 2: I know... What f*****g person starts school when schools close to ending? I spotted a seat at the back of the class and claimed it. Boy 1: Man, she's bomb as fuck.... I wouldn't mind getting to know her. Boy 2: Hell no, man. You can sense an attitude from that one. I'd keep my distance unless you want her to cuss you out. Boy 3: Man, I wish she would... I'll slap the hell out of her. I turned around and glanced at the guys sitting over in the corner. While everyone was so busy staring at me, there was one person who didn't pay me no mind and that was the guy who slammed into me earlier. He looked at me for a quick second before he turned his attention out the window. "Yo, Ant, what's wrong?" One of the guys asked. I looked back at the guy named Anthony. He turned his attention to his friends before his eyes landed on mines. I rolled my eyes at him and turned back to the front. The school bell rang and I got up from the desk to leave. Just as I was ready to leave, my shoulder was bumped into. "Sorry." I heard Anthony's voice. I sighed and glanced at him. "You seem to like bumping into me." I said to him. Now that I wasn't in my mother's presence, I finally got a chance to get a good look at him. He wasn't ugly at all. Far from it to be exact. Those emerald eyes of his were hard to stop looking at. I could actually see the black hole in the middle of his pupil. His skin looked so soft and smooth. His curly brown hair was nice and short. It looked like he made sure to keep it that way. He was taller than me, standing at a good 6'3. He even smelled good, too. There was no scent of must coming from him. "You act like I meant to," He responded. "I'm sure." He sighed before walking off. It was clear he was still mad about the detention from earlier. Clutching my bag, I continued towards the exit door.
