Chasing Desire

Anthony's Pov: The whistle blew and we all stopped running. The coach took the whistle from his mouth and pointed his finger towards the school. "HIT THE SHOWERS!" He shouted. I took the helmet off and wiped the sweat from my face with the back of my hand. Damn it was hot. That day was at least 92 degrees. I couldn't wait to get in the shower. The feeling of cold water already had me ready to leave that hot ass field. As I bent down to grab my water bottle, someone slapped the back of my neck, hard. I spun around and rolled my eyes as my best friend, Darrell, burst into a fit of laughter. "Dude, stop playing so f*****g much!" I shouted at him. "Stop being a b***h, man." Darrell told me. "Where are you headed after this?" "Home. Remember, today's Thursday." "Oh yeah, I forgot." Darrell and I walked towards the school. We walked through the back where the locker rooms were. The smell of sweat and heat filled the medium-sized room. Darrell and I seperated as we went towards our lockers. I twisted the lock, then opened it, grabbing all of my shower equipment. I dropped the sandals on the ground and put my feet in them before I walked towards the shower. "Yo, Anthony, are you coming over this weekend?" Justin asked me as he walked over to the other shower. "Maybe." I told him. "What the hell do you have to do besides football?" "Ha, remember. He has Madilyn to deal with this weekend." The whole team whistled before breaking out into fits of laughter. I rolled my eyes, turning the water on. The cold water splashed on me and I moved underneath it, letting the water run through my hair and down my bare body. "So, are you going to f**k her, tonight?" Darrell asked me. "Who?" "Who? The f**k? Madilyn. Did you forget you had a girlfriend?" I pulled away from the water and wiped my eyes so I could see. "Dude, I don't know." I told him. "Why not?" Justin asked, leaning on the wall that separated us from each other. "You've been dating for how long? Two years?" "What?" I turned to him. "Hell no! We've been dating for two months." "I'd still smash. Two months... Two weeks... Two days.... I don't give a fuck." I chuckled as I grabbed my soap and wash cloth, then began washing up. We all talked as we gotten ready to leave the locker room. The school bell rang and it was time for school to end. Darrell, Justin and I stepped out of the gym and headed towards the exit. Just as we walked out, we ran into Madilyn and her best friend, Chelsea. Madilyn smiled at me before she wrapped her arms around me. "Hey baby." She kissed me on the cheek. Yeah, she was very polite. She was afraid to kiss me on the lips, which was something that angered me. How the hell are we supposed to be in a relationship if you're afraid to go far? Sighing, I gave a small smile. "Let's grab something to eat." Darrell suggested. "Dude, I can't." I told him. "I have to work." "Then, let's go to your restaurant. We can talk to you while you're bussin' tables." Justin laughed. I shook my head and walked away from them. "Dude, I was just kidding!" Darrell shouted towards me. I walked to my car, which was a black 2020 Sedan. "You're just going to leave without me?" I unlocked the car door, then turned to Madilyn. "I can't hangout for long." I told her. "That's fine." She said. She walked over to the car and opened the passenger door. We both got in and I started the car up. Madilyn buckled up, then turned to me. "How was gym?" She asked. "Good." I pulled away from the school and headed towards Madilyn's house. Each time I snuck glances at her, she was taking pictures on her phone. She looked at me and smiled before putting the phone down on her lap. Yeah, she was gorgeous to me. Beautiful emerald green eyes, olive skin, curly brown hair, petite figure and that perfect smile. She's very smart and well-educated, too. However, her religion is what is getting between our relationship. Due to her being heavy on the bible, she wanted us to wait for s*x. Something I was not trying to wait for. "So, I was thinking we can go to the movies this weekend." She told me. "What do you say?" "And see what?" "Ha, I don't know. Something not R-rated." I rolled my eyes as I pulled into her driveway. I parked the car, then glanced at her. "I'll see you later?" I asked. "Okay." She smiled. She leaned over to me and pecked me on the cheek. "Bye, baby and thanks for the ride." "Yeah, no problem." She opened the passenger side door and got out, slamming it shut behind her. She waved goodbye before she ran to her front door. As soon as she walked inside her house, I pulled out of her driveway and headed straight towards my house. *** 6 hours later: "Welcome to In N Out. Can I take your order?" I stood in front of the cash register on my work shift, taking the customers' order for their food. The place was always packed as usual. My shift was close to finishing. It was almost 11pm and I had just finished with the few customers that was in my line. "Anthony, clean the empty tables for me, then you can clock out and leave." My boss, Mr. Hunter told me. "Okay." I told him. I walked away from the cash register and went to the empty tables. I did what my boss asked me to do, then I clocked out and headed home. Just as I got to the house. I sighed. My mother and father were outside, having a heated conversation about something. I parked the car and got out, headed towards the house. "I don't f*****g care." Mother told him. "You think that you can just come by whenever the f**k you want to." "This is my goddamn house, too!" Father shouted. "Was, get it f*****g right! You lost the right to live here when you left with -." Mother turned to me. Father glanced in my direction, then sighed. "How was work, baby?" Mother asked me. "It was cool." I told her. "I'm really exhausted and I would like to go up to my room." "Go ahead." I nodded, then walked past them without looking. Things were complicated due to their divorce. I made it to my room and shut the door behind me. I got ready for bed. A knock came on my door and I turned to it. "Come in." I said. Father walked in and I sighed as I got on the bed to lay down. "Hey, son." He said to me. " 'Sup?" I answered. " Do you have time?" I sat up on the bed and nodded my head. Father came and took a seat on the bed beside me. "I came to see you, but you weren't here." He told me. "I work." I told him. "I've been working at In N Out for a year now." "Okay, not bad. You like it there?" "Yeah, it's okay. A good pay." "That's good." The room got silent for a minute. "So, how's Madilyn?" He asked. I raised an eyebrow at him. "You remember that?" I asked. "Of course. You seemed to like her. She's a real sweetheart last time I remember." Yeah, she was. "She's fine." I told him. "Do you still like her?" He asked. I shrugged my shoulders. To be honest, I didn't know how to feel about Madilyn. I felt the relationship would've been better, but I am dating one of the hottest girls at school, so I shouldn't complain, right? A yawn escaped my lips and father chuckled. "Tired?" He asked me. "Yeah." I admitted. "Can you come by tomorrow?" "Um... I'll see. Right now, your mother... She... She doesn't want me around." "Hm." "But, I'll try to come back in a few days, okay?" He extended his hand out to me and I took it without hesitation. Then, he pulled me in for a hug. We hugged for almost a good five minutes. "I love you, Anthony." He whispered to me. "I love you, too." I told him. Father released me, then got up from the bed. He walked to the door, ready to head out. "Father..." I called out to him. He stopped and turned to face me. "Yeah, Ant." "Was she worth it?" He just stared at me. I could see the hurt in his eyes when I asked him about the woman he cheated on my mom with. "I wish I could make it work with your mom, but she doesn't want to be with me. I wish I could take it back, but I can't. I'm not going to lie. I miss my family, son. I miss you and your mother." I couldn't say anything. There was so much guilt in his eyes that I hated to see him suffer like that. My mom, though. She made up her mind. She made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him and when she set her mind on her decision, she never changed her mind. So, father was f****d in that situation of trying to ever get back with her. "Goodnight, son." Father said before he walked away. As I sat there, staring off into space, my phone rang. I already knew who it was due to the special ringtone I gave to her. Removing the phone from my pocket, I pressed the green button on my screen. "Hey, baby." Madilyn said on the other line. "How was work?" "It was good." I told her, then changed the subject. "Madilyn, look... We need to talk."
