"Felita, the pack is waiting for us to start the run," Vallin's tone was slightly bossy, and his aura pushed out enough to reach Felita and Thorin. The dragon prince was not impressed at his attempt to dominate the moment. It displeased him greatly, but he ignored it. He was much more powerful. If he released his full power, the entire pack would be on their knees, but he was much older and had enough experience to manipulate a crowd without much effort. Vallin was young and impulsive. He felt threatened by Thorin being with his mate, as he should be. Thorin was determined to win Felita's heart and bring her back to his home.
Felita looked at him, "Sorry, I need to finish this. Can we talk later?" Thorin kissed the back of her hand, "Of course. I'm not going anywhere. In fact, I would love to see you in your wolf form." She smiled at him, making his heart skip a beat as she replied, "Great." She dropped his hand and went to Vallin, "Come on. I'm so excited about our first run!" They walked back to the pack house, Thorin observing them from behind. "Have you heard your wolf yet," she asked Vallin. "Yeah, I did. I just wish it had been under different circumstances." Felita gave him a curious glance. "What did he say?"
Vallin grunted, "He said the dragon is trying to steal our mate." Felita's shoulders fell a little, and Thorin hated that he had played a part in her sadness. "I'm sorry, Vallin. It's complicated. Let's enjoy our run; then we can discuss it later. I don't want to ruin our birthday with an argument." Vallin stopped and looked at her. She paused next to him. "What does that even mean? It feels like you and the Dragon Prince have already started making decisions without discussing anything with me."
Felita let out a low growl as anger filled her. Thorin's mate bond with Felita differed slightly from a werewolf's mate bond. While they couldn't feel each other's emotions until they completed the mate bond, he could feel her already. As they spent more time together, she would start to feel him too. She just needed to tap into it and recognize it for what it was. Right now, she was angry with the pup. Instead of realizing that he was pushing her limits and shutting up, he pushed the issue with her further. He returned her growl with a rumble deep in his chest. He turned his head and looked at Thorin. "Stay away from my mate dragon. She's not for you." He looked at Felita, who was taking deep breaths to control herself. He could imagine her wolf was probably raging in her head. "I don't want you making any decisions with this guy without me being present. I don't think you're seeing things clearly."
Thorin watched as Felita's eyes grew large, and she huffed. Her anger filled his chest, and he realized he needed to get this under control. Not for the boy's sake, but for Felita's sake; otherwise, he would love to watch him ruin things alone. She would be upset later that they had bad words between them on one of the most important days of their lives. Thorin stepped toward them, placing himself between Felita and Vallin. "I think you're misreading things. Let's get back to the pack so you can complete your run. Later, maybe after we all get some rest after the party, we can discuss things with a clear mind." Vallin glared at him, and he was surprised to feel Felita grab him from behind. She wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned her cheek against his back. She inhaled deeply, and he felt her relax.
His heart swelled with pride, knowing he made her feel calm and safe. Once relaxed, she let him go and stepped around him to face Vallin. She took his hand and looked into his warm brown eyes. "Come on, mate, run with me." Vallin pulled her into him and ran his nose up her neck to her earlobe. His eyes burned into Thorin as he did it, and the prince knew that it was supposed to be an intimate act intended to poke at him, but watching Vallin's nose scrunch in a dissatisfied manner told Thorin that his scent lingered on Felita. He kept his demeanor relaxed and unbothered, but watching his mate in someone else's arms was difficult. Vallin whispered something into her ear, and she shivered. "I love you too; now, let's get off this trail and back to the pack," Felita whispered.
Hearing her say those words to Vallin was like a knife in his heart, but Thorin wasn't easily swayed. He was stubborn and always got what he wanted. He promised she would whisper the same words to him one day, and he would be her last love. He let them get a little bit of a lead on him before he went back to the pack house. He watched the pack members talking and enjoying the night. Felita and Vallin went to her parents, who patiently waited, and the Alpha and Luna joined them. He could easily listen to their conversation if he wanted to, but he wanted to give Felita some privacy, so he ignored them. Once they were done talking, they led the pack to the forest's edge.
Thorin watched his mate step behind a tree to shift for the first time. He wanted to be there with her, but she hadn't indicated she would like that, so he gave her space. It took longer than he thought it would, and he started worrying. His eyes darted from the Luna to Lucretia, who were still both in human form, for any indication that something was wrong. He didn't see any concern, so he closed his eyes and felt the mate bond. Felita was fine, so he reasoned that maybe it took longer the first time they shifted. 'I should know this. How am I mated to a werewolf, and I don't know even the basics,' he scolded himself mentally, but the truth was that he had never considered that his mate would be a werewolf. He had always thought it would be another dragon or a human. Not for any real reason other than that's what he had always dated. He had spent so many years searching for his mate.
As he chased a mental rabbit hole, a petite white wolf with gray-tipped ears stepped out of the trees and looked at him. The gray eyes staring at him were undeniably the eyes of his mate. Closing his red eyes and waving his hand, he shifted into his dragon form. Tonight, his dragon will meet her wolf. He didn't care who was waiting for her. This was important for them. He met Felita just outside the tree line and lowered his head to her. Felita sniffed him before rubbing her head against his. His dragon purred in happiness, but it was cut short when a larger brown wolf yipped at them. Felita raised her head and looked at the wolf Thorin recognized as Vallin. She looked back at him before joining her other mate in the forest. Thorin flapped his wings and flew above the trees, watching his mate as she ran next to Vallin.
