Chapter 8
KATHLEEN did not realize that she fell asleep again because of her excessive crying. When she's finally back to her senses, she stretched out her arms. Her headache is killing her. She maybe kinda overslept and she just only now experienced sleeping all day without doing anything. Well, she's a workaholic and a hard-working woman. It's not her style to sleep and spread out on bed days. She only sleeps for five hours because she is super busy supervising her own business.
But now is different because she's stuck at Gabrielle's den. She gasped violently and groaned in annoyance. She stretches her arms and legs once more. Then after that, she faces on her left side. Her soul almost burst out of shock when she saw Gabrielle next to her. She quickly got up and huddled in the corner. She gently kicked his leg but she got no response. She crawled closer to him and gently shook his shoulder. He didn't react. He's sleeping nice and sound, plus, she really can smell he was reek of alcohol. She then takes the opportunity to find his wallet but it's not in his pocket. When she didn't find anything in his pockets, she felt annoyed and growled a little. She despairs and crawls to the door but...
"Oh s**t!" she exclaimed. Feels like her heart leaps into her mouth. Gabrielle's hand surprised her. Because it held one of her legs.
"Let go of me," she said emphatically. He suddenly got up and pulled her. She almost fell into his chest. Fortunately, she immediately blocked her hands from it.
"What the hell are you doing!?" she said angrily. He quickly covered his mouth.
"You are such a disturbance. Lower your voice. They're sleeping in the other room. So stop whining or else, I'll make you sleep outside," he emphatically litigated to her. She annoyingly removed his hand from covering her mouth.
"I thought you were asleep?" she asked with a frown.
"Bodyguards should be 24/7 alert," he says. He laid down back on the bed.
"Stay quiet," he added and closed his eyes again.
Annoyed, she stepped back and looked at her wristwatch. It's already three-thirty in the morning. She feels hungry. She was even surprised when her stomach rumbled. Gabrielle then opened his eyes.
"Are you hungry?" he asked softly.
Her annoyance slightly disappeared because of this question. She nodded shyly. He quickly got up and stood up. It even beckoned her to follow him. Gabrielle went out of their room. She didn't want to follow him but she was really feeling hungry. How come, she had eaten in the morning earlier and she also lost her appetite afterwards because of his reluctance to let her go shopping in town for her things.
Unwillingly, she followed Gabrielle into the kitchen. He took a cup of noodles from the kitchen cabinet and hot water from the thermos.
"Eat up and don't make too much noise," he said and left her. She twitched her lips because she was annoyed with him. She just sighed and started eating when the noodles were cooked.
While she was in the middle of her meal, she suddenly heard a loud sound from a bat outside. She suddenly got scared and quickly stood up. Gabrielle returned to the kitchen and immediately came to her. She clings to his arm without minding that she's annoyed with him.
"What are those scary sounds?" she says.
"It's just a bat. You should get used to it because we're in the province. You can hear them anytime."
"Are you serious!? Why did you bring me to this place? You should've warned me that there are just too many scary creatures here," she said angrily.
"You're just overreacting and exaggerating things Kathleen," he said while taking her hand back. She just frowned at it.
"Are you done eating?" She quickly nodded.
"You go drink some water then let's go back to our bed," he says.
She quickly obeyed and did not protest anymore. After drinking water, she immediately returned to Gabrielle's side. She heard him hiss and he first went upstairs. She followed him next.
"Why are we sleeping in one bedroom?" she asked astonishingly.
"There's no extra room here Kathleen. Can you please lower your voice? You're disturbing my parents sleeping in the other room."
"How can I be calm if we are sleeping in the same room!? Are you out of your mind? Are you really that desperate to keep a close eye on me!?" She litany her complaints.
"Enough with your whining and stubbornness Kathleen. If you don't want me lying next to you. You can sleep outside if you want," he said and Gabrielle immediately turned his back on her.
She grabbed the pillow and threw it at him. Gabrielle didn't react from what she did and it even managed to hug the pillow that she threw. She cursed him in annoyance and hugged herself.
Suddenly, she heard the loud sound of a bat again, so she lay down immediately next to Gabrielle. She even pulled the blanket and covered herself with it.
"I thought you were brave? Simple sound of a bat, feels like it almost killed you," Gabrielle said softly as he still turned his back to her.
"Shut up! That's not funny!" she said and elbowed him. He didn't comment and she immediately heard him snore a little bit. He seems very tired. Is it because the province he brought her is so far away? She thought so. He would be really tired from that long ride.
She lowered down the blanket. She listened intently to all around her. It was very quiet and all she could hear was the sound of crickets.
This place was very different from what she was used to in the city. She breathes. She misses her usual life again and she doesn't know how long she can manage to adjust herself in this place. Actually, there would be no problem if she was in the province. Her problem is that Gabrielle is too strict with her and that's what she doesn't like.
And because he was holding her by the neck, she couldn't do anything for now. Even if she plans to escape, it will be useless. Gabrielle was very strict and always watching over her. But she still won't give up on her idea. She would still do everything she could, just to get out of here. She sighed again and forced herself to sleep. It took her an hour where her brain was flying everywhere but later on she got tired and only then did her sleepiness visit her.
