Fateful Marriage

" What are you doing?" Matthew asked Lira who had been ignoring him since he has been here in country B for two weeks.

" When will you stop asking the same question over and over again? It's quite frankly annoying." Lira said.

" Once you stop ignoring me. " Matthew said with a smile.

" We have nothing to talk about. " Lira said going back to looking through the telescope in the office which was James's former room .

Lira and Matthew's names are on the deed on this apartment, Sarah and her mystery husband are on her apartment that's still under renovation.James has his own. Page who felt left out bought the across Sarah. The whole floor was theirs. Sarah is busy with her new semester and had moved back to her dorm to escape from her brother's glare whenever she hugged Lira.

She is not a fool, she understood Matthew's feelings for Lira way before he had. Matthew was just a knucklehead who wouldn't listen to her. She doesn't know what exactly happened back in country A but she had heard of how he found his girlfriend in bed with a friend of his right after he " broke ties" with his family. She knows better than anyone that this might be a scheme from Matthew.

Lira was really annoyed by her newly forced husband. Matthew arrived drunk two weeks ago in the middle of the night and vomited all over her while trying to smile. His best friend Jonathan helped bring him inside and cleaned him before leaving unceremoniously. They had a long discussion the following day to just be house mates and mind their own business but Matthew didn't seem to get that.

She picked up her bag and prepared to attend class earlier before she gets thoughts of murdering her husband. She found inspiration in a new medical research study and immersed herself in it. Her new laboratory isn't ready yet so she had to bring some of the materials back home for analysis. She was working fine before the human loudspeaker arrived.

She packed up her telescope, moved them to her study and changed into a black jean with a white Cami top. Seeing the snow outside, she opted for a hoodie and a brown coat. She had forgotten to close the door properly so yes, Matthew saw that the b cup he saw and played with a year ago had turned into a D cup. He gulped before running towards the kitchen to drink cold water plus to avoid the embarrassing atmosphere that will happen should Lira realize that that he saw her.

In her hurry, Lira didn't notice Matthew's actions and left. Matthew calmed down before calling Jonathan over for some advice. He also wanted to find out what happened with the investigation he had asked him to do. He arrived quicker than he thought he would with a suitcase in tow looking exhausted.

" Hey mate. I think the address my grandfather is next door to yours. This is strange, i feel ambushed. Can you believe it, he stopped my credit card!!" Jonathan said.

" Can you repeat what you just said?" Matthew said trying hard not faint.

" I said my old man stopped my card and sent me to the apartment next to you and your wife's. He's been acting weird recently" Jonathan said.

" Jonathan, tell me something. What happened when you went home three weeks ago?" Matt asked.

" The usual. My grandfather fussing over me while my parents pampered my younger brother. The usual disdain from them to me while my aunt ignored me." Jonathan explained.

" Did your grandfather ask for your personal documents?" Matthew asked.

" Yes he did. He asked for them before I went to sleep the day i arrived. He even said that he doesn't mind that i don't want to take over the company from him. Who cares?" Jonathan says nonchalantly.

" He got you married" Matthew said as he sneered.

" What married?" Jonathan asked.

" The mystery brother in law should be you" Matthew said making Jonathan choke. He looked at his best and nearly fell when he saw that Matthew was serious.

" I need a minute" Jon said as he sat down and digested the news.

" Let me guess, You will be doing your post grad here " Matthew said.

" Yeah, my old man suggested it and since you were here, i didn't see a problem with it. My old man wouldn't do me like this, right?" Jonathan said.

" Guess where i am, the only one who could control my parents is my old man. Don't forget our grandfathers went to the same school here in country B. It wouldn't be far fetched to say that they were childhood friends up until college." Matthew replied.

" OMG. I'll be crashing here. Call your sister, i think we should all talk about everything so far." Jonathan said.

" Later, i need an update on how things were after graduation." Matthew said.

After the impromptu performance despite how hurt he was, Jessica chased after him after getting dressed with all kinds of excuses. He ignored her and hid in his dorm room. He was heartbroken none the less. He was prepared to go all out so he can marry her despite the fact that he would have to give up his family name and the benefits that comes with it. His grandfather and father will turn their backs against him.

This was the first time in his family that they were forced to get married. The rule states that the hunter men and women will only marry once. It is our choice on who to marry. He knows that his grandfather may not have a choice or something huge was coming and he was trying to protect him and his sister through marriage.

The following day, his parents and sister were present during the graduation ceremony. He ignored all kinds of looks and played the heartbroken man who had nothing to live for. He went up to give his graduation speech and he did not mention anything regarding Jessica or his sworn brother who was glaring daggers at him.

His friends were all on his side after hearing his version of his story. They sympathies with him and felt guilty for having such an impression of Lira thanks to Tim and Jessica. The funny thing was that they encouraged him to try it out with Lira. They didn't know about that night, a year ago. Only Jonathan knew. Matthew shook his head and told them that Lira hates his guy and is probably thinking of ways to get divorced from him.

Jerry, one of his college friends even commented on her looks earning a glare from Matthew. He said good bye to them as they went their separate ways two days after graduation. He prepared for his move to country B before his grandfather shipped him of by force. He noticed how his mother was excited about Lira not to mention his sister who would choose Lira instead of him in a heartbeat.

" Well, it went as expected. Tim was in communication with an unknown male. I couldn't find out anything about no matter how hard i tried. His information is top class classified. That man also came to see Jessica in the hospital after she tried to commit suicide to draw your attention. You were right, the injury is fake. As for that night..... Sigh... It's more complicated than we thought." Jonathan said.

" I figured as much. That man should be the godfather they were talking about. What do you mean complicated?" Matthew asked.

" Both you and your wife were drugged by different people. You were drugged by Tim , as for Lira... I thought it was Payton at first but it doesn't seem like it. Payton had the intention but the drug your wife was drugged with is from the black market, it was only introduced a day before the incident. Payton doesn't have the means to get it or have excess to it. Lira took a drug test after she woke up and that's how i got access to the results. She was in a hurry to take the pill that she didn't have time to get rid of the results." Jonathan said.

" What pill?" Matthew asked.

" Plan B" Jonathan said making matt choke.

" Why would she take that. Its very harmful to the body." Matthew said.

" Would you rather have her pregnant at the age of 15?" Jonathan asked.

" You know what I mean. It was our first time and we were kind of out of it. I guess that's why she didn't remember me" Matt said.

"She doesn't remember what happened that night, why do you have to talk about yourself. You need advice?" Jonathan said earning a slap at the back his head from Matthew.

" It seems that whoever it was, their plans were ruined by me. I feel like the old man from my house knows about that night, hence the marriage." Matthew said.

" That could explain your situation but what about mine? I met your sister twice and i treat her like a little sister because that's what she is to me. Why would a marriage come out of that?" Jonathan asked.

" How would i know. With how your parents are, why would my old man choose you of all people?" Matt said.

" What's wrong with me? The rule that you said, does it apply to her as well?" he asked.

" It does, She can date other people but she can't remarry after your divorce. My father was weird about the whole thing so i don't know the specifics. All i know is that man have it harder." Matt said while glaring at his new brother in law.

" Why are you staring daggers at me, I'm not the one who made this happen." he said.

" I know. I don't know what our families are thinking." Matt said.

" So are you over Jessica?" Jonathan couldn't help but ask.

" I am hurt but her betrayal and finding out that she was playing me all along.I honestly don't know what to feel about it. The ironic thing is that I realized that what I felt for her is nothing compared to seeing a single smile on Lira's face. Let's stop punishing Jessica and let her go. For now I'll focus on grad school and figuring out what got those old man spooked. " Matthew said with a sigh.

" I understand. I'll stop spreading that video. Why did you call me so urgently?" Jonathan asked.

" I think i am in love with my teen bride" Matthew said. He looked up to his best friend who didn't seem to be surprised.
