TALIA'S POV
Having powers is apparently the only good thing that has happened to me since I came back to life. I have lost everything else, my family, our home and now the hope of ever having a loving mate.
I no longer know where I am headed to anymore. My former plan can no longer work. The fact that I cannot walk into the palace without Prince Evan smelling my scent also means that I have no means of getting near the Queen.
There is no point in being alive as long as I cannot find my family. They are the people I want to protect.
"Hey, why do you look so sad? You didn't like the party?" The woman that I met first after coming back to life makes me halt.
"Where are you going?" She asks.
I look around. I had not thought about where I am headed to. But seemingly I am on the road towards what used to be our home. I am in fact a few metres away from the small gate.
"The people that live there now won't welcome you." She informs with the same amount of concern she had expressed earlier. "You can come sped the night in my house. My husband went to visit his brothers in crescent moon pack. It's just me and my little son left." She says and waits for my response.
I think I have caused enough chaos on my first day, taking a rest would be a good idea. I also need time to make another plan.
"Thanks for being so kind." I say and she smiles.
"Come with me then." I follow her to her elegant single storey house. A cute little boy greets us the moment his mother swings the door open.
"Mom who is the beautiful stranger?" He asks.
"Oh, that's our new friend." She answers. "Her name is . . ."
"Hilda." I lie again.
Lying to her while she is being so compassionate feels wrong. But I don't think I have an option. She would be screaming if she suspected that I am Talia.
"Stay here while I show her somewhere to rest. You can meet her well tomorrow." She says to the kid whose eyes are still on me.
I have always been a fan of kids, but right now I have a million troubles that are making it hard for me to be genuinely happy. I fake a smile though and the boy smiles back.
"Follow me." The woman says and heads for the small staircase that leads to the upper floor. I follow.
She leads me to a neat and cozy guest room. I take a seat on the bed and try to relax my mind so I can think of a new plan.
The only thing I know is I got to find our mother, Taylor and Michael. I just don't know where to start anymore.
Out of all beautiful people on Earth I ended up being paired with my most powerful enemy, like he was going to just smile and promise to be a loving husband.
"Something is bothering you." The woman observes. "I may be a stranger but I may be able to help if you let me."
"I really appreciate everything you want to do for me. But there are things that a human cannot change." I tell her.
She comes to sit beside me on the bed. "Did something happen at the party?" She asks and I nod my head.
I don't see the point in hiding from her what happened. She is going to hear about it anyway. Things like those become the subject of discussion throughout the entire kingdom for days.
"Prince Evan is my mate." I say.
She is astounded enough to cover her mouth with her hands.
"Really?"
"Yes." I affirm.
"That's incredibly wonderful! Why aren't you happy?"
I look at her eyes that are glowing with elation. She really doesn't seem to consider that as a problem.
I may have lied that I am not Talia, but even my own cousin if I had one would be feeling the same amount of pain.
"Are you thinking of rejecting him because of what happened to your cousins?" She suddenly stops smiling and questions.
"He and his family had innocent kids sold as slaves even after Talia was executed for the crime that they claimed my aunt had committed. He and his family are awful people! I would never -"
"Stop!" She cuts me short. "Prince Evan has never done a single bad thing to anyone. You want to blame him because you're angry about the death of your cousin. Why did you even go to the party if you don't like him?" She raves.
"I was looking for someone that knows who bought my cousins." I tell her.
She scoffs and I can clearly see that she is pissed. You can never be a good friend to a woman of this Kingdom if you utter a single wrong thing about Prince Evan. He is the master of perfection to them.
"Did you reject him? Because you shouldn't sleep in my house if you did!" She snaps.
How kind of her! I may not want to go back out there when I have no where to call home. But I am also not going to lie that I will accept the man that took part in ruining my family.
I can use my powers to make the woman calm down again instead of lying to make her feel good.
I mentally try to connect with her feelings so I can find the little joy inside of her and magnify it. Using my powers happens to be easier than I had imagined. But I have a feeling that it would be impossible if a person's eyes are closed. I am also sure that the fake feeling won't last long.
She relaxes again and once again looks at me with a benign expression. "Did you reject him?" She repeats the question in a calm and respectful tone.
"No. I left the palace the moment I realized that he is my mate." I answer and she sighs in relief.
One would think that the Prince is her son because only a mother should worry that much over someone.
"You did the right thing because now you have the chance to go back and apologize after you're done moaning your cousin." She says.
"Apologise? I cannot spend a night in my aunt's home because that man gave it to another family. He should be the one apologizing." I point.
"You can stay here with us until you gain control of your anger and you feel ready to meet your powerful mate again." She offers and I nod my head. Of course I would never even think of returning to the palace again especially for something as insane as apologising to Prince Evan for running away from him. That would be madness.
I will have rested enough by tomorrow to start the journey to the neighboring kingdoms where my siblings and mother were bought as slaves.
I will visit the home of every slave master until I find them. I will start with those that are known to be cruel because they are the people that the Queen would have wanted to sell our mother to.
