Slamming the door of the Bridges

It was hard for Helena to fall asleep last night because of the last evening’s event.Never did she think she would ever find a suitor,not that she cares.

She had listened patiently to Alice’s gossip about the man who had asked for her hand in marriage.From Alice,the rumor stated he’s a illegitimate son to his father who had been accepted nicely into the family,just like Helena.It was said he had been cold since he was a child,he doesn’t associate with anyone except Lady Amber who is now married to Edward’s stepbrother.

Helena had stayed awoke last night for so long thinking about him.If he’s just like her,she thinks maybe it will be an advantage to have something in common and perhaps,was that the reason he asked for her hand in marriage,because they had something in common?

Since it’s winter,she wouldn’t dare fall asleep without putting the firewood in the fire hole.The freezing touch woke her up from her slumber.She saw the fire had died down.She checked her window and saw it was morning already though everywhere is still dark,it’s so early but she will have to keep her eyes open.

This day is her so called wedding day though it’s totally different from the definition of weddings.She doesn’t even know if her outfit will be in white just like the normal weddings but clothes doesn’t matter to her now.What matters is her leaving her flowers in the hands of someone who doesn’t know them like she does.

Perhaps she will grow another one in her husband’s garden___if there’s one.

She stared into space until she heard a knock on her door.She look through the window to see it is already sunset.That’s the usual time Alice comes knocking on her door.

She opens the door and beams at her miss.Alice has also enlighten her on some things that happen on wedding night last night.Helena found it disgusting and had shut her maid up finding it hard to imagine her and her suitor in that position.

Alice bowed a little before eagerly jumping on Helena’s bed.

“I hope you thought about everything I told you last night”She’s talking about the dirty talks she had chattered.Alice is more experienced than Helena.She’s four years older so she had had many experiences with her man lover,still courting.

“I would rather talk on how my flowers will be fed now and who will look after them when am gone”

“Mrs Walter will do that,he’s the one who seems to care about the flowers most”Alice said and stands up from the bed.

“I will go prepare your bath now miss”Alice leaves the room leaving Helena alone.As she thought of what is due to happen the day,her stomach turned.She slumps back on the bed and cover her whole body and face with the covers.

Rather to be the sun rising,it was snow popping out of the cloud.Snow is the sign of love in her town that was why they turned it to a festive period.Helena gaze out as Alice ties her corset.The clothes she had worn was given to her earlier the morning by her stepmother.It wasn’t white all through,pink is partially combined with bringing out the prettiness of the cloth,also come with a pink band to match the cloth.Alice did her hair in a pretty ponytail which was twisted in a bun.

She applied a light makeup for Helena bringing her prettiness more to light.She gazed at the mirror and see a totally different side of her.She couldn’t believe she could look so modest and a proper look of a legitimate child in her family.

“You look very pretty miss”Alice did a good job of changing the usual look of her miss to someone totally different,her smile will perfectly give more glitter to her.

“It is breakfast set on the dining for all of you,announcements will be so tiring to hear today especially when you should totally prepare for something else”she chuckles at her last words.Helena ignores her chants.It was breakfast time already so she goes downstairs to join her supposed family.

Everyone acted as if she doesn’t exist when she got to the table.It is a thing she had gotten used to but she wondered why there’s an announcement when no one seem to care she’s alive.She was served her meal and then fell into a silence she decided if they finally speak up,she won’t be answering.

“As you know am a busy man and your mother here also is,no one will be able to go with you to your wedding,Alice can just be there with you”Helena turned a deaf ear and didn’t bother replying.She didn’t think no one will care anyway.

After she forcefully ate a little potion of the food,she stands up to leave but her father’s voice stops her.

“Your belongings will be in your home now,don’t come here anymore,this is no more your home”Helena who had decided to to be deaf wants to speak up but she doesn’t have anything to say.It’s so obvious they are so happy to get rid of her.She turned deaf totally but still faces her supposed father.It feels like she’s been sold in the black market.There’s no difference though,it feels like she was bought by her father since her birth and this wasn’t her home from the beginning.

The head maid comes to announce the presence of the carriage man her suitor had told her about.Maybe it’s really a due time to leave this cage called a home.Helena turned her back on them and finds her way to the front of their mansion.She takes a good look of the cage she had been trapped in since birth.What a shame—she thought.She turns to face the carriage which had been waiting for her.She truly deserved a new life so she welcomes it.

Together with Alice,she leaves the Bridges,heading for a new life she imagined to be her wishes come through.
