4. buffet part 2

Luke pov.

I looked at the seat she was seated on. There was only one way that it could happen and that was because someone had cast a spell on the chair. The spell of immobilisation.

I smirked. Whoever did that was stupid. Didn’t they already understand that I am their king and I can terminate any of their spells with just a touch of my hand? I touched on the handle of the chair and Sophia could stand up. She smiled and waved at everyone. No one seemed to notice anything strange. Everyone who was in the crowd seemed to be happy. They were clapping and cheering for her.

I scanned the whole audience. There certainly was a mole in here. Tonight is the knights’ buffet. No one else besides the Knights and the council members will be here. I felt my anger rise as I thought one of my knights dared to pull this stunt on their queen.

I sure will find out who did it. And that person, whoever it is will pay.

Sophia cleared her throat as she stood beside the podium. I smiled. She could make me happy any day.

“Knights of our kingdom. I am proud and honoured to be your queen. I am sure that all of you are hard workers. I am looking forward to work with you all. We will work as a single body. We will be united as one. We will face every hurdle with pride and courage. Stand as one and work as one. And then we will win over anything that comes our way. We are one.” She spoke fluently. It was as if she was born to do this.

Everyone cheered for her. I stood up as I clapped for her and extended my hand towards for her to hold on. She smiled and walked towards me and took my hand. I smirked and kissed it while maintaining eye contact with her. I knew that she would blush.

I took her hand and faced my knights. I once again scanned the crowd. Though I didn’t notice anything strange, I am now aware that I should be careful. I certainly didn’t want the love of my life to get hurt.

Sophie pov.

It would have been so embarrassing if I couldn’t stand up from the seat. But suddenly I was able to move and everything went smoothly. Soon it was time to eat. We had splendid food and we walked around the garden.

Luke never left my side. I was introduced to Knights of different ranks. I only was familiar with Yail and the council members. Yail was the knight commander, the highest rank of the Knights and the right hand of Luke. Then came two knight majors, one female and one male.

The knight majors William and Jaime met me.

“It is a pleasure to meet you, your majesty.” They said as they bowed down in respect.

I smiled at them. There was no way I’ll get used to all these bowing.

“The pleasure is mine. I am honoured to meet such a talented warrior. I have heard lots of good things about both of you. William, you have certainly proved to be among the strongest wizards and I have been told that you, Jaime have attained high achievements at a very young age. Both of you have passed the wizarding academy with flying colours. That takes a lot of dedication.” I said. William smiled proudly and bowed as a gesture of thanks to me. I was not expecting Jaime to look at Luke the way she did.

I raised my eyebrows. Ok. Maybe I was wrong. These wizards and witches may not be aware of our enhanced senses. I certainly can sense jealousy from this witch. I smiled at her sweetly. I cannot jump to conclusions. I should be careful. And that I will be.

“Your highness. The female warriors would love to meet you, your highness.” Jaime said.

“She will meet them with me,” Luke said. I looked at him surprised. I smiled. I would feel more comfortable with him nearby. I felt his hand go around my waist.

Jaime pov

I was fuming with anger. It did not work. It just didn’t work. Failed plans and efforts were what is hated the most.

King Luke took her to talk with the female warriors. He held her by her waist the whole time. I glared at how his hand was constantly around her waist. I just couldn’t help it. I was furious. Some moments later, I noticed that he pulled her closer to him so that she was now leaning on him.

I rolled my eyes. Can’t he keep his hands off her?

All the female warriors were ecstatic to meet her. I just couldn’t believe it. Not even a tiny bit. No one felt that it was outrageous for a werewolf to be the queen of this prestigious realm? I most certainly am surrounded by idiots.

The time flew by. I was unquestionable, not enjoying myself. I tried my best to put up a poker face until it was all over. If I had a choice, I would have already left this buffet, but being the knight major means you must stay back and make sure everything is going perfectly.

Then came the hardest part of the night.

The dance.

Each year I hoped that the king would choose me to dance with him and each year he would leave the garden without taking part in the dance. But tonight, he was the one who initiated it.

I watched enviously as he led her to the centre of the ground and held her close to him. Both of them were smiling and lost in each other’s eyes. She giggled from time to time to something he would say. I saw that his silver eyes sparkled with excitement as she giggled at his words. They seemed to be lost in their world, completely heedless of their surroundings.

They swayed and swirled to the melody. I never thought the king could dance so well. I looked away. The scene was only making me feel worse than I already did. I felt my cheeks get hot with anger. Tears of frustration gathered in my eyes

Suddenly the whole crowd of knights started to cheer. What happened? I looked to the centre of the ground where they stood embraced in each other’s arms, their lips locked in a passionate kiss. I saw that his arms were holding her firmly and hers was holding him close to her.

My eyes widened. I couldn’t stop a huff of breath that escaped my lips.

“That could be us you know.” I heard William’s voice.

I gritted my teeth. Just when I thought that this night couldn’t get any worse. I turned around to find him waiting politely right behind me. Lots of knights were already gathered around us. He extended his hand towards me. “Will you dance with me.” He asked.

Suddenly I heard murmurs. All the eyes were now directed in our direction as if waiting to see something interesting.

“Please.” He added, looking at me with hope-filled eyes.

I felt a nudge on my side. I looked in that direction. It was Nina.

“Don’t make a scene. It’s just a dance.” She whispered.

I sighed and took his hand.

He grinned from ear to ear as he led me to the centre of the ground. He held my waist while I tried my best to maintain a good distance from him.

The Knights started to dance all around us. I saw knight commander Yail with his wife. Nina had her arms around a fellow knight. Both of them seemed to be hitting it off. I sighed. I guess this night was going well for everyone except me.

Soon I felt William’s hand pulling me closer to him. I glared at him. He just smirked at me. I groaned internally.

This sure was going to be a long night. I better make my next move soon.
