Chapter 3 – My savior

1580 Words
Alice Walker's POV “Mrs. Walker, do you have any idea about the money in your account?” Jacob asked and I said no with my head. “Thomas had been depositing cash every month. Do you have your passbook or any other bank documents?” He asked again. “Thomas told me about this account on his deathbed. I was able to sneak out the bank documents from our secret locker.” I said and took the bank passbook from one of the pockets inside my shirt. I handed over the passbook to him. He took it and typed something on his computer. I could see his eyes widening as he looked at the screen. “Mrs. Walker, your husband has left you a fortune and you want to give away everything to his killer. Currently, there are 5 million dollars in your account.” Now it was my turn to get shocked. “Are you moving out of your mansion?” Jacob asked. “Yes, I am actually moving out of the States. Thomas wanted me to go back to Australia and he thought that we won’t be safe here.” I told him. “That’s great then. You can transfer the money to your bank in Australia.” Jacob suggested. “But I don’t have any bank account in Australia. Since my marriage, I shifted to the US and it’s really hard to escape back to Australia without Tessa’s knowledge.” I expressed my worries. “Well, I think she won’t bother you once she gets what she wants.” Jacob opined. “She won’t free my children unless I transfer her the money,” I said with a sigh. “Well, no one except you and me knows how much money you have in your account. You can transfer a part to her account and save the rest for yourself.” Jacob said. “But Wilson told me to close the account and so I can’t keep the money in the account itself,” I said. “Well, I will advise against Mrs. Walker. The money in the account is not entirely deposited by Thomas. He had taken some shares in your children’s name and the profit from those shares comes to this account since you are their mother. The profits will continue to flow into this account until your children reach age.” Jacob explained. “What will I do then?” I asked. “I can help you only if you have an account to transfer the money. Do you have any relatives in Australia who have a bank account?” Jacob asked. “I became an orphan at an early age. I only had a brother. Our aunt Gracie Walker took care of us. It was because of her I met Thomas. I only had my brother who passed away three years back. Now I have no one to say as a family except for my kids.” I explained and he went silent as if thinking of something. “Mrs. Walker, do you have any friends who you can trust?” Jacob asked and my heart blossomed at the thought of that person. “Yes, I have a friend in Australia whom I can trust with my life,” I said with a smile. “Do you have her account number?” Jacob asked again. “No, I never needed her account details,” I said. “Do you have her contact number?” He asked again. “Yes but I don’t have my phone,” I said. “Do you remember the number?” Jacob asked. “I know her landline number as we used to call each other a lot,” I said and wrote the number on a paper which Jacob passed me. He took it and dialed it from his phone. “What’s your friend’s name?” Jacob asked while keeping the phone to his ear. “Catherine. Catherine Taylor.” I replied. I watched Jacob closely as he was on his phone and after a few seconds he spoke on the phone. “Hello, can I speak to Mrs. Catherine Taylor?” He went silent as the other side answered. “Hello, Mrs. Catherine Taylor. I am Jacob Wiseman and I am calling from the US. I have your dear friend with me who wants to talk to you.” He said and handed over the phone to me and said. “Mrs. Walker, please make it fast, or else your so-called financial assistant will be suspicious.” “Hello Cathe, it’s me, Alice. I don’t have much time. Please give me your bank account details as I have to transfer my money to Australia. I will explain everything to you after I get there safely.” I said. “Alice, you are coming to Australia!” Catherine asked surprised. “Yes Cath, something really bad happened but I don’t have the time to explain. Please give your bank details.” I said and she gave me the details which I copied on the notepad in front of me. “Thank you, Cathe, I will get to you later, and please don’t try to contact me,” I said and hung up before Catherine could say something. I passed the notepad to Jacob. “So, I will transfer 5 million dollars to your friend’s account and 50000 dollars to Tessa’s account,” Jacob said. “No, that will make her more suspicious. I can’t risk my children’s life. Transfer 4 million to Tessa’s account and rest to Catherine’s account.” I said. “Are you out of your mind Mrs. Walker? I will do the opposite.” Jacob said. “No, I can’t take any risk,” I said. “Okay then, I will transfer 3 million to your friend’s account and 2 million to Tessa’s account.” I thought about his suggestion and then agreed. “That would be fine but how will I make her believe that I have closed my account?” I asked. “Well for that let me first transfer the amount to your friend’s account. Then we will call that cheater accountant and show him transferring the amount to Tessa’s account and then you can ask me to close the account permanently. I will do so.” Jacob said and I agreed. He started to work on his computer and after five minutes he looked at his computer and smiled. He then handed me a card. “This is my card and you can call me at any time for any help.” I took the card and thanked him. I deposited the card along with my passbook inside my pocket. Then I thought about being caught by Tessa hiding these things inside my pocket. Tessa is unpredictable and if she checked me, then all my hard work will go in vain. “Jacob, can you please help me?” I asked. “Please don’t hesitate to ask for any help. I will always be there for you. That’s the least I could do for Thomas.” Jacob said with a smile. “I have some of my belongings with me right now. I want you to keep them with you safely until I get you back.” I said and started to empty all my pockets. He was shocked to see the things on his table. He looked at me confused. “These are the valuable possessions that my husband and his mother left for me and my kids. Tessa didn’t know about the secret locker and so she didn’t have got hold of these things. I was lucky to sneak these out without being caught but I am afraid that if she checked me and found all these things, then she won’t leave me or my kids to live peacefully.” I explained and he nodded in agreement. Jacob took a small bag from his drawer and kept all my belongings inside it. He then kept the bag inside his drawer. “Now go and call that bastard and don’t forget to make an angry face at me. Just act as if we were arguing.” Jacob said and I nodded. I stood up and made a serious face before opening the door. I called Wilson to come inside. He followed me and I stood behind the chair and said in a harsh voice. “Mr. Jacob Wiseman, I am done arguing with you. My decision is final. I want to transfer the money to my sister in law's account and you have to do it in front of my financial advisor. I want to make sure that you have transferred the last penny to that account.” I put an act in front of Wilson and he gave a winning smile. Jacob transferred the balance amount making Wilson a witness. “Mrs. Wilson, your account balance now is NIL,” Jacob said. “Then close the account permanently. I don’t need a bank account anymore.” I said. “Fine, I will do that right now,” Jacob said and acted as if doing some work on his computer. “Done, now you are no longer a customer of Imperial bank,” Jacob said in a stern voice. Wilson directed me to follow him. When he stepped out of the door I turned back and mouthed a thank you to Jacob and followed Wilson to get my kids.
