The Message

Silence passed between us. His gaze didn’t leave me, not for a second. They skimmed over me, they traced over every curve on my body, down to where the towel stopped which was just right below my butt and then further down, to my legs. The air around us was suddenly hot and awkward. I faked a cough to dispel it. “My eyes are over here, Alpha Kaden.” When he looked at me, I could tell the look in his eyes had changed, they were more primal. He took a large step forward towards me. My back hit the wall and he trapped me between his arms as his hot breath fanned my face. “It’s not so easy to control myself, sweetheart.” He picked up one of my hands and placed it on his chest. “Here,” I felt the rhythm of his heartbeat. Fast and furious. “This is how you keep making me feel. Unhinged.” A pause, and then he’s even closer to me, his body pressing into mine, causing me to be breathless as I stared up at him, able to feel his hardness. “Tell me it’s just me Madeline.” I released a breath through my mouth as I said, “It’s not just you, Alpha Kaden.” He smiled, the kind that was both dangerous and cute. The kind that made me feel a whole zoo in my stomach before he pulled away from me, I instantly felt the loss of his warmth, craved it even. He flashed me a smile, held my hand and brought me to sit on the sofa. “I think I should change first.” “I don’t mind you doing it in front of me.” Again, he was teasing me but I didn’t mind playing along. “I doubt you can handle it.” His eyes darkened, dangerously trained on me as I turned around, feeling how his gaze was burning holes through my behind as I got clothes from the closet. “You know I’m always up for a challenge sweetheart.” “Then you should tell an Omega in advance to prepare a cold shower for you.” “Now isn’t that just cruel?” “Not when you’re the one asking for it.” I flashed him a smile, closing the doors to the walk-in closet as I changed into new clothes before coming back out. I took the seat opposite of him. Clearly, he had something he wanted to say to me. “You look worried about something.” “Well I’m worried about you.” He said and I looked at him. This man whom I have only known for a day but he looked like he cared more about me than the people I have known for years. “Is It true?” I looked at him when he asked, confused at what he was talking about until he continued. “You had a special mate contract with the supreme Alpha of the Red lake pack?” How did he know that? Did Benny tell him? Perhaps every single thing that I had discussed out there. I needed to be more careful. “It’s true.” I released a breath. “I’d sign a contract like that with him.” The air froze around me the moment I admitted to it. Along with anger, I could feel a hint of worry from him as he trained his gaze on me. “Madeline,” he called softly, seriously, like he was about to propose something he knew I’d never agree to. “..do you know how dangerous a special bond is? If he never releases you, you’ll have to suffer forever or worse… die. Of course I’d kill the man before that ever happens to you but—” “I need you to stop saying you’ll kill Skylar.” I told him, looking up at him, the look that appeared in his eyes made me want to hold him closer but I ignored that itch, my eyes searching his, knowing he wasn’t kidding when he talked about killing Skylar. “It’s not him I am worried about but you.” I continued, dispelling any thought that must have begun to form in his head. “You cannot kill another Alpha without permission unless you’re willing to get into trouble with the council.” And I’d feel so guilty if he got into trouble because of me. “Who said I’m afraid?” “You’re not. But I am.” The council were very scary people. I have only had contact with them once when my relatives refused to let go of me and they had to intervene before I could marry Skylar. I never wanted to come across any of them again. “I’ll completely break my connection with him, soon.” I promised him, knowing what he was worried about. If Skylar f****d someone again, the pain could kill me. The last one had been unbearable. I didn’t know how much more I could take. “How do you plan to do that?” “I’d sent a message to the supreme Alpha. I’ll know what he’s thinking when he gives me a reply.” Kaden nodded and I saw him hesitate to say something. “About the sketch…” he started but stopped. Benny really’d tell him every single conversation I had out there. Is he going to offer to help me? I guess that wasn’t the case since he didn’t say another word about it. He just invited me to dinner and I went with him. The supreme Alpha’s message’d arrive the next day. Except it wasn’t as I was expecting. He brought to me my worst nightmare as his reply. That sly old man!
