Chapter Three: Background

Lexi's POV 

I laid on my bed tracing shapes over Isaac's naked chest. "I miss you" he spoke softly and I smiled. I lifted my head to peck his lips softly "I miss you too" I spoke and he mumbled something clearly bothering him. 

"What?" I asked and he shook his head making me sigh. "Please tell me" I begged and he stared at me for a second before speaking. "I'm just thinking about how much it's going to suck when you find your mate" he groaned and my face fell hating this conversation. "Trust me I know but promise me you won't leave me when I do" I spoke softly looking him in the eyes.

"You know I won't I just wish, no matter how horrible it sounds that you'd never find him" he shrugged and I honestly couldn't blame him for wishing that. "I understand but if I don't find my mate by 25 I have to give up my Alpha title, hell I can't even take position until I find him" I spoke and he nodded. 

"I know and we can't have that...I remember you promising me you'd change me when you became alpha" he smirked and I laughed. "I'm not sure about that" I shook him off and his lips formed a pout. 

"Why not?" he asked and I sat up straddling his waist. "A new wolf is a burden, what makes you think your worth it?" I question and he smiled up at me. "I'm adorable" he said matter of factly making me smile. "Mm yeah I guess so" I agreed and he laughed leaning up to kiss me. 

"Can you mate a wolf who wasn't born a wolf?" He questioned and my eyebrows furrowed. "Yeah you can why?" I asked and he smiled. "How about a month before you turn 25 we get your dad to change me and I'll be your mate. 

If you find your mate after that and want me to go I will but I know how much you want the position" he offered and I smiled brightly.  

"Okay but if I find my mate after that I'll keep you" I smirked kissing him again and I pulled the blanket over the top of our naked bodies.

"I'm just saying there is no explanation to why you were valedictorian. Isaac and I had the same GPA same classes and more extracurricular" I pointed out getting a nod of agreement from Isaac. 

A recurring argument came up between the three of us on our way to the store. Jasmine was our classes valedictorian yet she wasn't top of our classes she was tied with Isaac and I. "Hm maybe it was because I never missed one day of high school and you and Isaac ditched all the time" she pointed out and I scuffed. 

"That should show how awesome of a student I am I can screw around while graduating top of my class and getting a full ride to Duke" I argued and Jasmine scoffed this time. "May I remind you all three of us got full rides not only you"

"I got acceptance first" I shot back and Isaac cut Jasmine off before she could reply. "We're all smart anyone could of been valedictorian move on we're here anyways so let's go" He ushered us out of the car and in to store. 

I pushed the cart as Jasmine and Isaac grabbed snacks from the shelves throwing them into the cart. "You do know we need real food, right?" I asked making them freeze each with multiple different snacks in there arms and a bag of goldfish hanging from Isaac's mouth. 

"You two are ridiculous put them in the cart already" I spoke rolling my eyes and chuckling softly. 

An hour later the three of us struggled to carry all the groceries in at once Isaac insisting that two trips were for the weak. We stopped at the door looking down at our hands which were all full and too each other seeing which one of us would volunteer to drop our stuff and unlock the door. 

"Not it" I called immediately followed by Jasmine making Isaac groan and set his bags on the floor unlocking the door. Jasmine and I made a move for the door only to run into each other and stumble back slightly. We tried again getting the same result. "You'd never believe you two graduated with a 4.8" Isaac commented and we turned to glare. 

"I'll go first" Jasmine spoke walking in followed by Isaac and I. 

Living in a apartment with your two best friends is awesome. We all met the first day of 7th grade and have been best friends ever since. Isaac's and my 'relationship' didn't really start until freshman year. 

I was over at his house when he found out his girlfriend of two months cheated on him with our old friend Porter I knew he had a crush on me and I can't deny that I wasn't happy when I heard because I had liked him since I met him. 

He was upset and I just kissed him to make him feel better. We never dated and didn't actually sleep together until we were 16 but he never dated another girl either. 

If you haven't realized yet I am indeed a werewolf not a normal sentence but the truth. I was born 5 minutes before my twin brother giving me the right to the Alpha position when I found my mate. Since I didn't get a completely normal life my parents let me live with a couple from our pack with no children a little off from our borders. 

I go to work at my pack and as far as Jasmine knows I work at a warehouse. I'd love to tell them but if they didn't take the news correctly and told anybody they'd be killed. Isaac however found out. 

I was at his house during a month when a lot of armed robberies were taking place and normally people don't grow fangs and claws when held at gunpoint or be able to throw a guy twice their size into a wall. A long story short he took the news pretty well except when he found out we could never be together.

Jasmine and I have been really close since her parents died. I took a huge toll on her and I was just there to help her pick up the pieces. Sadly I know that one day I'll have to tell her or she'll find out and the fact that I lied to her will hurt her aloe but hopefully she understands. 

I looked at my two best friends as we danced in the kitchen while putting the food away. Nothing can ruin this. At least that's what I thought.

We go to to the same university, I haven't seen him yet but maybe I will. I walked into English seeing him sitting in the front row and my stomach lurched.
