On the next day, I was sitting on the carpet, reading the paper in my hands. Zargos gave me a full stack of documents to read. He said that It was all the information for the other packs I‘ll need.
There were also sheets, on which his so-called „plan“ was written. According to the plan, I had to go from pack to pack, get people used to me, and when they least expect it, to cause as much as possible damage, better yet death.
He thought that is better If I start with the least popular and the smallest ones. I looked at the paper I‘m holding. I liked this pack the most. But it's the opposite of what Zargos wants. This pack was very big, with over 300 members. And they were mostly my age. Or around. The information about them also pleased me, they sound like funny people... werewolves, ok. And there were a few pictures too.
I grabbed the Alpha's picture. He's called Lucas, and he's 25 years old. His hair is black, his eyes green, and his smile was gorgeous. Zargos had put an exclamation mark next to the name of the pack. And the name was the Apollo pack. I wondered why. Since I decided to go to this pack first, I needed to ask him why.
The packs that he wanted me to go first were smaller and weaker, obviously. I don't know how, but he had provided full information about them. Including every single member, even if some of them were just mentioned only by their names.
He was stating even the current political situation within the community in the region these packs were. Apparently, my former pack, Carlwood, had occupied land, that is on the other side of the country. That far.
I can't help but think that If it weren't for Zargos, I wouldn't have been able to come across some of them even by accident. And I would have stayed completely unaware of their existence. I wondered If there were werewolves here?
I looked back in the picture. Can I do this? I couldn't even imagine what would it be to get to know this world. I'm I that brave? I felt a strange mixture of fear, excitement, and impatience.
I still didn't know anything about my supposed powers. I couldn't go there with just a smile on my face, after all. It would be a suicide. Zargos said this is gonna be the best part of my preparation - we'll go to the forest and try to provoke some power release. Or something like that.
It was dark outside when he finally came. I would prefer to do that in daylight, but he is the boss now. I got outside and went to the forest. Zargos was in his wolf form. Up close he looked even scarier. He was so big that I looked like a needle next to him.
He turned around and slipped into the woods. I followed as fast as I can. I was already tired when he finally stopped and turned his head in my direction. “Don't go anywhere, this is the perfect spot, I'm going behind the trees to shift".
I looked around when suddenly I realized that he didn't tell me this in his human form. I got excited that I manage to connect with him through the “so-called” mind link. He went in front of me and I excitedly told him “Did you see, I got it! I heard you! It is so strange, yet so thrilling! Maybe you're right! Maybe I really…”
“Calm down. If you're going to react like that after every single thing you're going to do, you’ll be dead of excitement till midnight. Toughen up."
“If I spend just a few more minutes with you and your forbearance, I'm going to die anyway" I said.
“The forbearance is a rather valuable trait of personal characteristics. You may try to acquire it.”
I just stood there with a frown on my face. He was really able to drain all my energy. “Are you sure you don't have anything vampire-related?"
Now he was frowning at me.
“Now, listen to me, everything I have to tell you is very important since you won't have the opportunity to rely on me when you got there. You'll be all by yourself.”
“But… what about mind-linking?”
“It would be too dangerous, we must be within a certain radius and I can't go there. Since you're not a werewolf, they won't catch your scent so easily. The animal scent is stronger than human's.”
“Bear in mind that you really can't trust anybody. Even if they seem friendly and reliable, even If something…happens between you and someone else, you know what I'm talking about…” he coughed nervously and I smirked"… never forget that you're the ultimate enemy for them and you just can't trust anybody. That would be the death of you.”
My expression got serious, as I thought about this possibility. Because death was really a possibility.
“So, what next?”
“I want to see If you have a healing ability. Your grandfather and your mother had it. So I really hope that you inherited it. I tore a deer earlier and took it to see If you could…”
“You what?!” I stared incredulously as he went behind one of the trees and started pulling something around it. It really was a deer and it was barely breathing.
“Seriously?”
“Dead serious" he chuckled.
I stared at the animal, feeling sorry for it.
“Come on, don't just stare at it, you have the opportunity to heal it.”
I went to the animal and slowly squatted next to it. “What should I do?”
“Just put your hands on top of the wounds. Don't mind the blood, you'll have to get used to it. There would be plenty of it. Werewolves often engage in battles. And there are constant attacks of rogues as well.”
“It's happening!" I tried to compose myself, but It was so miraculous, the feeling of healing the deer so good, that I couldn't contain my reaction. The wounds stopped bleeding. The breathing of the animal got better and a second later it got on its feet and went for the woods. I felt a little tired, my own breathing a little unevenly. I felt slightly lightheaded, but other than that, everything was good.
“Well, that was good, but now we must find If you have the most important of all the powers you must poses. The witcher's powers are potion and spell–related, so that is something you can try at your own home. Just don't try anything stupid.”
He turned around, his expression thoughtful. He then gestured with his hands around the woods.
“Try to do something with our surroundings.”
“What for example?”
“I don't know, anything, just focus” he again gestured around nervously.
I tried to focus, but nothing was happening. I got nervous too, I didn't know what to do.
“Maybe It has to be triggered by something, I don't know.”
We stood there silently for a minute and then he looked at me.
“When did you decide to go?”
“I think at the end of the week. I have some things to do before leaving.”
“Ok, when you got there, remember that the Moonlight pack is enduring many rogue attacks recently and you have to be cautious. They're weak, but their fear is dangerous.”
“I won't go to the Moonlight pack.”
He stopped frozen. He slowly turned to face me.
"Where do you plan to go first then?”
Under his nervous stare, I got unsure of my decision, but I said it anyway.
“I'm going to the Apollo pack”
His stare got intense, in his eyes pure horror. “If you want to get killed soon enough, go there. “
“What's the big deal? And why had you put an exclamation mark, next to the name of the pack?”
He got all serious. I felt the sweat on my back. A promise for death was swimming in his eyes.
“Because they were at the bottom of the attack that killed your mother and your father. And your whole pack.
They started the war.”
