“Who do you mean by them? That happened almost 18 years ago. The Alpha of this pack is 25y old. He can't have anything to do with it.”
“Don't play dumb, Alina. His parents, even his grandparents are alive and you'll have to meet them. Alpha Lucas may not have been there, but he's certainly going to kill you if he finds out who are you. I told you already. No one will spare your life, just because you were 3 years old back then and you didn’t do anything bad. Everyone knows the story of the end of the Carlwood pack. And everyone sighs with relief at the thought of it. Even the children. I want you to finally understand. No one will be your friend, no one will want you there and no one will show you mercy.”
He pinned me with his serious eyes and I slip one hand in through my hair in frustration.
“I'm sorry, but I won't go to the Moonlight pack. Tell me something – what must be the motivation for me to go there, If I am to find only my death. You really must think I'm dumb. Not only that I'm going to be with males and females who would think I'm a monster and would want me to be killed, but on top of that you want me to cause some damage and probably even get someone killed? I think I deserve at least to pick up the pack on my own. And I want the Apollo pack.”
He again fixed his eyes on me, but this time he was angered. He wanted to intimidate me.
“And will you be able to do everything I asked you to?” He slowly strolled toward me.
“Are you worthy enough of being a member of the great Carlwood pack? Would you be great enough for a Carlwood child? Are you going to revenge for us, Alina C?”
“Or I should kill you right here, right now?”
“Back off,” I said, my voice scaring the s**t out of me. And as I raised my hands to stop him, a strong blow of wind picked up Zargos and throw him into the opposite tree.
I grabbed my throat. My hands trembled. I saw Zargos laying next to the tree and I ran to him.
“Zargos, are you..”
“Don't...touch me!” He was looking at me with horror in his eyes.
“But… you have difficulty breathing… and there is blood.. “
“It… doesn't matter, just… stay there.”
“But I can heal you"
“Right… now… I'm not…sure.” I stared at him confused and scared and he spoke again “Alina…your…eyes turned… black. And….your…voice now…is not so… deep and… strong…as when...you…throw me, ...but is…still chan…ged.”
I felt tears running down my face. I didn't know what to do.
“Did I hurt you too bad…., can you move….?”
“Don't….worry, it could’ve…been worse” he managed to say.
“Alina…., please…., tell me…that..you're..going to….revenge…for us.”
He slowly got up, leaning on the tree. His left arm was hanging freely. His face was dirty and he had blood, spilling out of his mouth. It wasn't too much though. His eyes, however, were like always – serious, calm, and determined.
“I won't lie to you, I can't just go there and start killing people.
But…even as I don't really know the Carlwood members. Even If I don't remember my family, that doesn't mean I'm not getting angry, when I think about their ending.
So I can tell you only that – I can't be just a weapon in your hands.
I'm going there, fully alert on how dangerous would be. Completely aware I, given any situation, must keep my identity a secret. And that I would investigate on my own what exactly happened back then and who is responsible for it.”
This time there was determination in my eyes.
