Cody
I was ditching the last two classes with my buddies. We were under the bleachers getting high. I would head back out in time for my lift home with Jasmine.
“What is your plan?” Bart asked.
“My plan for what?” I laughed.
“To finally get Jasmine,” He chuckled, “You are under the same roof now, so it should be easier,” He added.
“Hmm, I am not sure yet, but one thing I do know, I will have her below me soon enough,” I said, smirking.
Yeah, yeah, I am a complete douche, I know. Maybe if more people went after what they truly wanted then this shitty world wouldn’t be so damn miserable. I am not going to apologise for going for what I want.
“Good luck, she hates your guts,” Harry said, shaking his head.
“She hasn’t always though, maybe I can use that,” I said.
We were best friends for a long time. I know her better than she knows herself, and she is the same with me. That could work for me. I am sure the sweet, nice boy from years ago is still in there somewhere, deep, deep down.
“And how do you plan on doing that?” Bart asked.
“Play nice Cody, the one she was best friends with for years. The guy she told her secrets too, the one she came to when she was upset,” I said.
“You are playing a dangerous game, buddy,” Harry laughed, “She isn’t like all the other girls, she isn’t going to fall for your bullshit,” He added.
“I don’t think anyone realises how close Jasmine and I used to be,” I said.
“Good luck, mate,” Bart said, patting my shoulder.
I will prove them wrong. I can convince anyone to do anything.
“I don’t need it,” I said, confidently.
I changed the subject to the party happening this weekend. I think nearly everyone was going. It would be a good night, but it will be better to convince Jasmine to come with me. She is a hell of fun when she lets her wild side come out. I had a few days to work on her. Even if she doesn’t come, I will find someone for the night. I am not short on offers. Why do girls get so drawn to us, bad boys? I have never understood it. It works out for us.
“I will catch you both later,” I said, “I need to go get my ride,” I added.
I headed back into the school, well not into it. I went around to the car park, waiting for Jasmine outside her car. The bell rang, and everyone came out. Jasmine one of the last as always, she gets to talking with everyone on the way out. I see her finally coming towards the car. She was smiling, well until she saw me. The smile soon turned to a frown.
“Hey,” I smiled.
“Hey,” She said, rolling her eyes as she approached.
She always makes me feel so welcome. I chuckled and shrugged.
“You reek of weed,” She said, screwing her face up, “You better not smoke that stuff in my damn house, especially with Lily around,” She added, glaring at me.
“Of course now, what the hell do you take me for?” I asked, annoyed.
“I don’t know with you anymore,” She said.
I wouldn’t do that, especially not with Lily in the house. I wasn’t that much of an asshole. If I wanted a smoke, I would do it when I was out or sneak out the back door when everyone is in bed.
“f**k you,” I snapped.
“You wish,” She said, getting into the car, “You have two minutes to get in, or I am going without you,” She added.
Jasmine is always talking about how much of an asshole I was, but she was a b***h. She was not perfect, either. I did get in the car, not in the mood to walk back. The car ride back was silent and awkward.
The moment she parked, I got out and headed inside. No one else was home yet, so I headed to my room. At least that way I can stay out of her way, and she can stay out of mine. No one can get under my skin as she can. Because she knows me, better than anyone else, it is easier for her to do, but that works both ways.

I was lying on top of the covers, watching crap on my phone when I hear a gentle knock at the door.
“Cody,” I hear Lily say.
“Come in, Lily,” I said.
Lily came in, coming over to the bed. She placed her hand on her hip and looked at me. I swear she gets that sass from Jasmine.
“You said you would colour with me, I have been home for ages, and you are up here,” She said, pouting.
They got home ten minutes ago.
“Sorry, Miss Lily, I am coming now,” I smiled.
I had a lot of time for Lily, she was the sweetest little kid, and I have known her since the day she was born. I am not a fan of kids, could do without them in my life, but that didn’t include Lily.
“Good, Jasmine is waiting for us,” She said.
I got up from the bed, the moment I did, she grabbed my hand, and tugged at it. That was her way of telling me to hurry up. I chuckled and followed her downstairs. Everything set up on the table for us.
“You sit there, next to Jasmine,” She said.
I see Jasmine roll her eyes but then smiled when Lily looked at her. I took a seat where Lily told me too, and she sat across from us.
“How was school, Princess?” Jasmine asked.
“Good,” Lily said, smiling.
I don’t think she wanted to talk, just colour. The conversation ended there, and the three of us got to colouring. I do have to say it is relaxing. I don’t think I had done this since I was like seven or something. If anyone found out what I was doing right night, they would indeed rip the piss out of me.
“Why do you two not love each other anymore?” Lily asked randomly.
Jasmine and I looked up at her, both thinking the same thing, where did that come from?
“What do you mean?” Jasmine asked.
“Mummy said you used to play together, and cuddle, and now you don’t, why?” She asked, looking between us.
Um, how do we answer that question? I had no clue so I stayed silent and hoped Jasmine would answer.
“Sometimes when people grow up, they aren’t friends anymore,” Jasmine said softly.
“It makes me sad,” She pouted.
“I am sorry, sweetie, but these things happen,” I whispered.
Lily looked between us, wriggling her nose and then got back to colouring in. I turned my attention to Jasmine, who was looking at me. She gave me a soft smile, sighed and then got back to colouring the same as Lily.
“I am going to get water. Anyone want anything?” I asked.
I was feeling slightly uncomfortable after what happened. I had to get away from a moment.
“Juice please, apple,” Lily said, batting her lashes at me.
“Water for me, please,” Jasmine said, not looking at me.
I nodded, heading into the kitchen to grab drinks. Josephine was making a start on dinner.
“Everything OK?” She asked.
“Yeah, just getting us drinks,” I said, “Do you need any help?” I added.
“No, I got it, thanks though,” Josephine smiled.
I left her too it, the girl’s dad would be home soon too, and he would help his wife with dinner. I grabbed our drinks, heading through. Lily and Jasmine were now on the sofa.
“Lily has decided that we are watching the little mermaid instead,” Jasmine laughed.
“Yay,” I said through gritted teeth, smiling.
I hated that movie. Jasmine used to make me watch it all the time, after about the hundredth time I wanted to break the disk, but I didn’t. I sat through it with, time and time again.
“I know how much you love that movie,” Jasmine said sarcastically and smirking.
I rolled my eyes, sitting with them, and passing the drinks to them. I am sure I can deal with it for today. Lily snuggled into Jasmine and hit play. I smiled. Jasmine has always been great with Lily.
I got myself comfortable, ready for the torture to come. After dinner, I need to get out of this house. I don’t mind being here because I
liked Jasmine’s family, but today I have been doing things I wouldn’t usually, and I don’t like that. I can’t have anyone thinking I was turning nice again.
That will not do.
