Chapter Three - What is the worst that can happen?

1550 Words
Jasmine    I groaned when my alarm went off. No! It can’t be that time already. I switched it off, pulling the covers over my face. I couldn’t be bothered moving, plus today was the day that Cody was coming to stay. Meh! Why does the world hate me? I sighed, pulling the covers off me and getting my ass out of bed. I would shower later. I made my way downstairs to get some breakfast before getting changed. The closer I got to the kitchen; I hear my mum talk to someone. I had no clue who, because my dad would already have left for work.    I headed into the kitchen, and soon see who it was.    Cody!    He was sitting having coffee with my mum, both of them laughing and chatting. What the hell is he doing here? It was only six-thirty a.m. There is no need for him to be here at this time.    “Why are you here at this time?” I said, annoyed.     “Good morning to you too, sunshine,” He laughed, “I see you are still cranky in the morning,” He added.    He was talking, but not looking at me directly. He was too busy looking me up and down. I am regretting coming down here in only my shorts and a strappy tee, nothing else.    “Shut up,” I groaned going to grab a coffee.    “Jasmine, there is no need to be so rude,” my mum said.    I didn’t respond to her. I poured a coffee and grabbed a banana and a yoghurt for breakfast. I hesitantly sat with them at the breakfast bar. I didn’t even acknowledge Cody.  “Did you sleep alright, sweetie?” My mum asked.    “Yeah, not bad, thanks,” I said, giving her a soft smile.    “Good, well I need to get myself ready, and wake Lily, please do not kill Cody while I am gone, OK?” My mum laughed.    “I can’t make ant promises,” I said, rolling my eyes.    My mum and Cody looked at each other and laughed. God help me! I hate that they get along so well; it makes everything worse for me. The moment my mum was out of earshot, Cody turned to me smirking.    “You look good in those shorts,” He said.    “Cody, go and f**k yourself, OK?” I snapped, “Seriously, why are you here at this time?” I added.    “Because my mum had to leave early to get to my grandma,” He replied.    I don’t understand why he needed to come here and stay. I am sure his mum could have found someone else or let him stay alone. Then again, I wouldn’t trust leaving Cody alone at home. Cody would trash the place.    “How is your Grandma, is she OK?” I asked.    Yes, I hated Cody, but I liked his mum and Grandma.    “She will be OK,” He said, “She had a fall, and has broken her leg, so she needs some help for the next couple of weeks,” He added.    “At least she will be OK,” I said, giving him a small smile.  “Yes,” He said, smiling back at me.    I turned away from, getting back to my breakfast, but I could feel him still watching me. He was such a damn perv! He needs to get his hormones in check before I end up slapping him one. I ignored his stares.    “Can I grab a ride to school with you? My car is in the garage until tomorrow,” He said.    “Walk,” I said.    “Aww come on now, don’t be like that,” He said, “I am only asking for a lift, nothing else,” He added.    “Fine! But if you say one wrong thing or annoy me, I will throw you out without even thinking about it,” I said, firmly.    “I promise to behave,” He said, flashing his charming smile at me.    A smile that works on mostly everyone, but not me. I know what is behind that stupid smile. I finished my breakfast and headed upstairs to get myself ready. I got myself washed and slipped on a pair of jeans, a tee and a hoodie, my vans to match. I usually do my make-up before school, but this morning I can’t be bothered. Mascara and lip gloss will do. I pulled my hair into a high ponytail. That would do me. I don’t have the energy this morning.    I headed back down, just as I did, Lily was getting her jacket on to go to school.    “Jasmine,” She said excitedly when she saw me.    “Hey, Princess, you ready for school,” I smiled.    “Yes,” She said, smiling brightly.    She loved school, and she was a smart little cookie for her age. I know she gets that from my mother, she is very intelligent. My dad is too, but not on the same level as my mum. I take after my dad, more than my mum in that way.    “Well enjoy, and I will see you later, OK?” I smiled.    She rushed over to hug me. I crouched down to her level, clutching her back.    “Cody said we could all colour later, can we?” She said, eyes wide.    He did? Since when did Cody like kids? He better not go back on his word, or I will kill him.    “Sure thing,” I smiled, kissing her.    I said goodbye to Lily and my mum.    “BYE, CODY!’ Lily called through to him.    “BYE, SWEETIE,” He called back.    They two headed out, and we would need to as well because I don’t want to be late. Cody came into the hallway where I was standing.    “I am leaving, so if you aren’t ready, you can walk,” I said.   “I am ready to go,” He said.    Damn it! I was hoping he wasn’t, and he would have to walk. That would make my day. I groaned, grabbing my things and headed out to my car, Cody hot on my heels. I got tempted to drive off before he had a chance to get into the car, but he was too quick. He probably knew what I was thinking. I hate that he knows me so well, but that is what happens when you were best friends for as long as we were.    I put my music on, louder than needed because I don’t want to talk to him or hear his stupid perverted remarks. I started the car, and after driving for a few minutes, he turned the music down.    “Hey! My car, my rules, leave it alone,” I said.    “Calm down, I want to ask you something,” He said.   “What?” I asked.    “Are you coming to the party this weekend? The one at Kevin’s?” He asked.    “I haven’t decided yet,” I said shrugging.    I enjoyed a party like everyone else, but sometimes I couldn’t be bothered with them. It depends on how I feel when the time comes.    “You should come, your friends are,” He said.    “I will wait and see how I feel,” I said, turning the music back up.    Cody laughed, shrugging and pulled his phone out. At least if he is on that, he is not annoying me. I pulled up outside the school, and I can only imagine what people are thinking. Why is Cody with me? Everyone knows we aren’t friends anymore.    “Thanks for the ride, can I get one back with you?” He asked.    “Whatever,” I said.    He got out of the car after that. I stepped out after him, making my way to my girls that were waiting for me. They were looking at me all in the same way, wondering why Cody was with me.    “He is staying with us for the next couple of weeks,” I said.    “Oh God,” Becky laughed, “Hopefully you don’t end up killing him,” She added, laughing.    “Why is he staying with you?” Katie asked.    “His mum is away taking care of his Grandma, and she didn’t want to leave him alone, so she asked my mum to take him in, and of course, my mum said yes,” I said, rolling my eyes.   I think there would be a lot of that for the next couple of weeks, me rolling my eyes.    “Well, this should be interesting,” Bridget giggled.    “I wouldn’t use that word to describe it,” I laughed, “More like torture,” I added, shaking my head.    My friends gave me a sympathetic look, and we headed inside. I am glad that they felt pain.    What is the worst that can happen, right?
