Chapter Twenty Six - A warning...

1382 Words
Cody    “I don’t think I am very hungry,” I said.   Jasmine’s mum had called us down for dinner. I was hungry. I just didn’t want to go downstairs and face Jasmine’s parents, more her dad, though.   “Yes, you are,” Jasmine laughs, “You need to face him at some point since you are still staying here at the moment,” She added, shaking her head.    It was going to be hard to avoid him when we are under the same roof. I hope he will go easy on me because he has known me so long, but then again, he may be harder on me because he has known me so long. Either way, I am nervous.   “Fine!” I huff.    Jasmine giggles, kissing me softly, and we head downstairs. We went to join the others. I smile nervously at them, joining them at the table, Jasmine sitting next to me.    “So, do you two have something to tell us?” Jasmine’s mum asks.    You could tell she was trying to contain her excitement. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an I told you so from her and my mother when she knows.    “Um, yes, Cody and I are together,” Jasmine said softly, “And please, don’t go making a big deal out of it,” She added, laughing.    “Ahh! About time!” Her mum said excitedly.    “Yes, mum, now eat,” Jasmine chuckles, shaking her head.  I could feel her dad watching me. I refuse to make eye contact, though, because I am worried about the look he will have on his face.    “You and I will be talking later, Cody,” He finally said.    “Daddy!” Jasmine whines.    “Yes, Sir,” I said, finally looking at him.    He gives me a slight nod, and no one said another word about it. The subject got changed to other things as we ate. I was still freaking out on the inside. I don’t even know what he will say to me. I am sure there will be warnings and rules for sure, which I will respect because I respect him, not only him but them all.    “Have you told your mother?” Jasmine’s mum asks.    “Not yet. We only became official like an hour or so ago,” I said.    “You probably should tell her soon,” She smiles.    “I will when I talk to her later,” I reply.    I may have been eating slower than usual. I was trying to prepare myself for my talk with her dad. I have not ever really been in this position because I have not had a proper relationship.   “Jasmine, Lily, can you two give me a hand to clean up?” Jasmine’s mum asked as we finished.    Jasmine looked at me, but I gave her a soft smile. I know she didn’t want to leave me with her dad, but I would rather get it over with, to be honest. She sighed, and they grabbed the things, taking them all to the kitchen.    “Cody, I like you, I always have, but I also know what you are like,” He said, and then paused, “I will not allow you to treat my daughter the way you treat other girls,” He added.    I understand where he is coming from. I am glad he doesn’t know just how bad I am with girls. There is only so much he knows because I didn’t tell them, and neither did Jasmine.    “I understand that you are worried, but Jasmine is different. She has always been different,” I said, “I know the way I treated girls was horrible, but I don’t want to be that guy anymore,” I added.    I will be upfront with him as much I can.    “As long as you know because Cody, you hurt, we are done, you are done with this family,” He said firmly, “And if I ever find out you are putting any sort of pressure on her, you will have me to deal with,” He added.    I knew he was meaning every single word he was speaking to me. I would be the same if I were in his position.   “I promise, I don’t plan on hurting Jasmine in any way,” I said, “And I would not even dream of putting any pressure on her for anything,” I added.    If I mess this up and hurt her, I will take myself away from them. I will hate myself because I know if I do, I will lose her for good, which is the last thing that I want.    “Good! You get one chance Cody, after that, you don’t get another,” He said.    “I know, trust me, if I mess this up, I will walk away because Jasmine deserves more,” I said.    “Now we have that out there. I am happy for you both,” He smiles.    “Thank you,” I reply, smiling back.    That wasn’t as bad as I believed it would be.    “Everything OK?” Jasmine asked as she approaches.    “Yes, everything is fine, babe,” I smile.    “OK,” She said, “If you two have finished talking, Lily is waiting for us to play football,” She added.    I excused myself from the table, and we headed outside to get Lily. We could only play for a short time because Lily would have to start getting ready for bed soon.    “Jassy, you in goals, Cody and I will play against each other,” Lily gave her orders.    We go along with her orders. I am sure she will change things up in no time because she will get bored.                                                          *** Jasmine and I were exhausted by the time we had finished playing football. I miss the days of having the energy that Lily has. It is never-ending. We collapsed on Jasmine beds, Lily was getting ready for her bed, but Jasmine and I were to read her a story before she goes to sleep.    “So, are you going to tell me what my dad said to you?” Jasmine asked, looking at me.    “He was just warning me not to hurt you or pressure you in any way,” I said.    I didn’t need to tell her everything because I think that about summed it up. She slid in closer to me, resting her head on my chest, and I wrapped my arm around her, kissing the top of her head.    “As long as he wasn’t too hard on you,” She said.    “He is just being an overprotective father. I would be the same if it were my daughter, and she brought someone like me home,” I said.    “I don’t think that would be so bad,” Jasmine said, kissing me softly.    “Oh, it would be. I would probably want to kill him,” I laughed.    “You would get over it,” She giggles.    Silence filled the room after that. It was a comfortable one too. I think we both needed a breather after running around and before Lily summons us to read her a story.    It was going to be strange when I am back home staying. I wouldn’t get to see Jasmine as much, not only her but also Lily, because I don’t think our parents would somehow allow sleepovers. Right now is different because I am staying here, and even with that, we need to be careful if we remain in each other’s room. We can’t get caught, especially now since we are together.    When staying in separate houses, it wasn’t going to be easy, but we will need to deal with that, I guess. I don’t want to get on the wrong side of Jasmine’s parents.
