Cody
I was pissed off at Jasmine because she left without me. It seems to be like anytime things appear to be getting better between us, even just a little, her walls go back, and that distance is between us again. I get it. I hurt her badly before, especially when I told her she wasn’t anything special and just like every other girl, and that she means nothing to me. Trust me. It is words I regret every day. But I guess a part of me is holding out for some sort of hope.
I know where she will be, though, and I was on my way to find her. I had a feeling she would be at our spot or close to it. I arrived at the lake, walking the ten minutes to where we used to play when we were kids. I saw her sitting at the edge of the water, her feet it in. She seemed lost in her own little world. The closer I get to her, I see she has her eyes closed over, her earphones in and she was singing gently to herself.
Jasmine used to sing all the time, and she was good at it, but it was me mainly she would sing around, no-one else. It has been a while since I have heard her sing. I sat down next to her, and she oblivious I was there. I listened to her for a little time and then tapped her arm gently. She squealed and jumped to her feet.
“What the f**k? How long have you been there?” She barked, removing her earphone.
Not my best idea, considering she was alone and had her earphones in.
“Sorry,” I chuckled, “I haven’t been here long,” I added.
“OK,” She said softly.
“Why did you leave without me?” I asked.
“Because you seemed to be having fun with Lily, and I just need some time alone,” She said, shrugging.
I know that was the entire truth, but I let her be. Jasmine sat down next to me again and turned to look at me.
“I am sorry I left without you,” Jasmine whispers.
“It is OK,” I said, “I will forgive you this time,” I added, nudging her.
Jasmine rolled her eyes, but then a giggle fell from her lips. I laughed along with her. Silence came between us, but her eyes were searching mine. I don’t know what she was searching for, but it was making me nervous. I quickly pulled my eyes away from her.
“Do you want to go and check if the swing is still there?” She asked.
“You haven’t checked yet?” I asked, surprised.
Jasmine shook her head and jumped to her feet. She offered her hand to me, which I took, and she helped me up. We headed down to the large tree where my Grandfather had built the swing for us, and to our surprise, it was still there.
“I can’t believe it is still here, though it looks a little worn,” Jasmine said, “And it is probably too high for Lily,” She added.
“Maybe I could build a new one,” I suggested.
“Can you build?” Jasmine chuckled.
“I can try, you can help, you were always better at doing those things that me, actually than most guys in our workshop classes,” I said.
“I don’t want to show you up,” She smirked.
“We can do it together,” I laughed.
Jasmine thought about it and then nodded.
“We can go to the hardware store in the morning,” I said.
“OK, sounds like a plan,” She smiled, “And I promise not to go without you,” She added, giggling.
I laughed loudly. At least she was finding it all humours. I know my efforts will not be as great as my Grandfathers, but I will give it a try.
“I wonder what will happen if I take a shot of it,” I asked.
“One way to find out,” Jasmine replied.
This was possibly a bad idea, but hey, I make bad decisions every day. This one is nothing comparing to the rest of them. Jasmine held it still for me, and I climbed on. The moment she let go, I swung once, and the rope snapped, and I fell right on my ass, hard.
“Ouch!” I groaned.
Jasmine buckled over, laughing her ass off as I lay on the ground.
“Not funny,” I huffed.
“No, it is damn hilarious,” She breathed out as she held her stomach.
“I am fine, thanks for asking,” I said sarcastically.
Me saying that only made her laugh harder. After a few minutes, she started calming down and came over to me.
“Sorry, I couldn’t help it,” Jasmine said, “Are you OK?” She added, still laughing.
“Yes, just got a sore ass now,” I laughed.
Jasmine helped me to my feet, and the laughing started all over again.
“Oh, how I wish I had videoed that,” She said.
“I am sure you do,” I said, shaking my head.
I was going to have a sore ass for a couple of days, at least. I was glad though I tried it out, rather than Jasmine, or before we brought Lily here.
“Come on, and try not to hurt yourself again,” Jasmine smirked.
“You are not going to let me live this down, are you?” I asked.
Jasmine grinned and shook her head. I smiled to myself. It was good to be laughing with her. I had missed it badly.
“Wanna go a walk?” Jasmine asked.
“Yeah, sure,” I smiled.
At least she didn’t want to head back and get away from me.

Jasmine and I had been walking for over an hour and decided to sit down for a bit before heading back. It had been a good hour. We were talking and laughing like we used to.
“Jas, do you think we could ever be friends again?” I asked.
I had a feeling what her answer was going to be, but I thought I would ask.
“I don’t know, Cody,” She said, “You hurt me badly, and when you did, you took all the trust away I had in you,” She added, sighing.
“I know I did, and I am sorry,” I said, “I didn’t mean too. I should not have said those things to you. I shouldn’t have treated you like everyone else,” I added.
“Then why did you, Cody? I did nothing to you. I was there for you through it all, until you made it impossible,” She said, “And I know you were going through a hard time, but that did not give you the right to act the way you did, especially not towards me,” She added.
I could see the tears welling in her eyes as she spoke every single word to me. It was breaking my heart, seeing her upset.
“I know it doesn’t give me the right, Jas,” I said, “Please don’t cry. I hate seeing you cry,” I added, my voice shaky.
With that, she let the tears roll down her cheeks. I hate that it is me doing that to her. She deserves better. I reached for her, wrapping my arms around her, and hugged her close to me. She struggled against me for a moment but then relaxed in my arms and let me embrace.
“I really am sorry, Jasmine,” I whimpered out.
She didn’t answer. Instead, she just hugged me. I sighed, stroking her hair.
“Please, Jasmine, give me another chance,” I asked, “One more is all I am asking. If I mess up, then I will walk away and leave you alone,” I added.
Jasmine lifted her head to look up at me. I wiped the tears away from her cheek.
“Cody, I don’t think things will ever be the same between us again,” She said.
“I know that, but I would like to try and be friends again,” I said, “And hopefully, in time, you will learn to trust me again,” I added.
I don’t think we could ever go back to what we had. I don’t even know if we could be best friends again, but I would rather just be friends than be nothing to her.
“We can try, but no promises, Cody, because the next time you won’t get another chance,” She said firmly, “We can see how this weekend goes, and go from there,” She added.
“That is all I ask, thank you,” I smiled, kissing her forehead.
Surely, I can’t find a way to mess this up over the weekend. We are somewhere away from it all, somewhere that means something to us. All I want is another chance, and if I mess it up, then I won’t ask for another.
Maybe this weekend can be the weekend that changes things for us.
