Chapter Twenty One - He is being weird!

1406 Words
Jasmine   Cody was a little weird since I messed with him when we disappeared into the woods. I wasn’t expecting him to respond the way he did, but I did have fun messing with him. Anyway, where was I? Yes, he was being weird. He has been extra; how do I explain it, clingy. He had been hugging me, keeping me close and touching me more than he really needs to. When I say touching, I mean gentle touches, like my lower back, my arm or my knee, those kinds of places. He was keeping me close to him.    I don’t know if I should be freaked out or if he has just gone into protective best-friend mode. Either way, it was a little strange, probably because it has been a while since we have been like this.    He had left my side only a moment ago to go talk to the guys. I soon have Becky and Katie on each side of me.    “Hey!” Katie smirked.   “Um, hello,” I laugh.    The two of them were looking at me strangely.    “Are you sure there is nothing go on with Cody and you?” Becky asks,” He seems to be acting sort of needy around you,” She adds, giggling.    “I am positive! And I don’t know why he is acting like that,” I shrug.    I wish they would leave it alone. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what is wrong with Cody. Everyone has got into his head.    “Is there isn’t a chance Cody feels more for you than you realise?” Katie asks.    “There is nothing between us, OK? Can you drop it? We just made up and became friends again,” I say, “I don’t want anyone getting into our heads and convincing us that it is more because it will ruin things all over again,” I added, shaking my head.    “Sorry,” They said in sync.    I sigh, running my fingers through my hair. I have a feeling this won’t be the last that I hear of this. I changed the subject quickly because I didn’t want things to get awkward between my friends and me.    I look over to where Cody is, and by the look on his face, his friends were saying the same to him. He looked up at me, rolling his eyes and pulling a face. I giggle and do the same back, and he laughs.    “We need to start planning my eighteenth soon,” Katie said.    Katie is the first out of us all to turn eighteen.    “What do you want to do? Have a party? Go away for a weekend?” I ask.    “A party for sure. You only turn eighteen once,” She smiles.    “Well, we have a couple of months to get it sorted,” I say.    We were all turning eighteen within the next few months, so there would be many parties and celebrations. Me, I don’t want a party. I want to have dinner with my parents and Lily and then getaway for a couple of nights with my friends.    “Yes, I am excited, though,” Katie smiles.    We discussed her party plans for the next little while until I was ready for home.    “Cody, I am heading back. You coming or staying?” I ask.    I was expecting him to stay.    “I will come back with you,” He smiles.    We say goodbye to our friends before heading back home. Silence filled the car as we drove. I was suddenly feeling a little strange being in the car with him.    “Jasmine, I am sorry I have been acting weird tonight,” Cody said.    He must have picked up on what I was feeling. He has always read me so easily.    “Why is that?” I ask.    “I think everyone was getting into my head,” He sighs, “I hope I haven’t made things awkward between us,” He added.    “No, it is OK. I thought maybe that is what it could have been,” I respond, “My little show when we went a walk probably didn’t help either, so I am sorry about that,” I added.    “Yes, what was that?” He chuckles.    “Revenge for being mean,” I giggle, “Though it did seem to get to you, more than it should have. What was that about?” I added.    I don’t want any lies between us. I would rather us be honest with each other.    “Come on now. I am a teenage guy at the end of the day. It doesn’t take much to get my hormones running,” He laughs.    He had a point, but I hope that was all it was.    “That is very true,” I snicker, “I am sorry that I confused your hormones,” I added, laughing loudly.    Cody rolled his eyes, letting out a loud laugh too. I am glad we can make a joke out of all of this. Any awkwardness seems to disappear after that. I hope it stays that way.                                                          *** Cody and I were fighting over the remote control in the living room. Everyone else in bed sound asleep.    “Give it to me. It is my house,” I whine, trying to get it from him.    “You always get it,” He complains.    We had been arguing over it for the last ten minutes. Some old habits don’t go away. I moved quickly and finally got it from him. I looked at him smugly.    “Do not make me sit on you, Jas,” He warns.    “You wouldn’t!” I complained.   He smirks, and before I could stop him, he had me on my back against the sofa and was sitting on top of me, his total weight holding me down.    “Cody, get off me,” I groan.    “Nope, give me the remote,” He responds.    “Never,” I said sternly.    “Then it is going to be a long night, isn’t it?” He announces.    I tried struggling below him, but it wasn’t working. He was too strong. Cody grabbed my hands, pinning them above my head against the arm of the sofa.    “Cody, let go of me,” I try to say but was too busy laughing.    I stopped laughing. Why? Because of the way he was looking at me. He was looking down at me, a look on his face that I couldn’t read. I went to ask why he was looking at me, but the words didn’t come out.    Cody’s face seems to be inching closer to mine. He rests one of his hand on my cheek, caressing the skin with his finger.    “Cody, what, what are you doing?” I stammer out.    He didn’t respond with words. Instead, he pressed his lips to mine. I froze for a moment, not expecting it, but that didn’t make him pull away. Before I knew what I was doing, I slipped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. The kiss was soft. I don’t know why I was letting this happen. It was not the best idea. I should pull away!    Cody must have been thinking the same because he abruptly pulled away, getting to his feet.    “s**t, I am sorry, Jasmine,” He said quickly before rushing off.    I hear him run upstairs to his room. I lay there, confused. Why would he do that? Why did I let him do that? It came out of nowhere. I stayed in place, fighting with myself. I wanted to after him, find out what just happened, but then there was another part of me that wanted to let it be and act like it didn’t happen.    I chose to go to my room and forget that it happened, well, until tomorrow. If he doesn’t bring it up, neither will I. It better not complicate things between us. That is the last thing that we need.
