Chapter 2

1002 Words
Sophie got to her new job at the bar early. She couldn't believe that she had finally found a job. She felt like her luck was starting to turn around. She had come to this little town to start over and only managed to get her hands on a few thousand dollars. It helped her find an apartment and fill the fridge but she was only a few weeks away from her next rent p*****t and was quickly running out of money. She happened to see a help wanted sign in the window of a bar that was in the city about 20 minutes from where she was living, and got hired on the spot. Apparently they had just had a huge shake-up in staff due to some rival club opening. Whatever the reason, she was just glad to have found this job. She would be serving drinks but she had other duties too including cleaning and helping with dishes in the back when things were slow, although she was really hoping things would never be that slow. She could really use the tips. She was doing a walk through with one of the other bar tenders who was showing her the ropes and was going to teach her to make drinks. She could obviously get beers, and make drinks that were exactly like how they sounded like a cranberry vodka but she wasn't familiar with other drinks like a s*x on the beach or a martini. She also had no idea how to make some of the specialty shots she had seen the other bar tender making. She had no doubt she would be able to learn though, because she would be dependant on this money to survive. "So" John, the guy showing her around, interrupted her thoughts, "are you living in the city?" "No, actually I have an apartment about 20 minutes away in York." "Oh really? Isn't that town a little on the sleepy side?" "Well, I haven't really been there that long so I wouldn't know. But it seems nice from what I've seen so far." "You're also kind of close to this weird commune place actually." "What?" Sophie asked whipping her head towards John and almost cracking her freaking neck. "Yeah it's actually like another 20 minutes or so North of you. So like probably 40-45 minutes from here. It's a huge property. It has to be hundreds of acres. But there are kind of a lot of people that live there. They mostly keep to themselves and people mostly steer clear of them. Rumor has it they train wolves to watch over their property. I don't totally believe that though. I think they just have those husky dogs that look like wolves ya know? "Oh yeah. I know what you mean. How do you know so much about them if they live on a commune? Don't those kinds of people usually keep to themselves?" "Honestly I'm not sure. But they tend to come into the city quite a bit. I think we're the closest place to them to do anything. And they're all like incredibly good looking so they hook up with a lot of people and well you know how rumors go." "Oh, strange" Sophie commented hoping she wouldn't have to deal with any of them. "Yeah, but whatever theyre' also really good tippers. So how are you feeling you think you're ready to start slinging drinks?" "Um not really but there's no better way to learn than by doing right?" John chuckled, "I like the way you think. Let's go I'll walk you out to the bar. I wasn't actually scheduled tonight but Dave asked me to come in just so I could help you out. So I'll pull up a chair at the end of the bar and you just let me know if you're in the weeds or need help with a drink." "Ok got it thank you!" "No problem." They walked out to the bar and Sophie was about to go behind it and start taking drink orders when she suddenly felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. She had had this feeling many times before always when she was being watched. She picked her head up and was frantically looking around before her eyes locked on the face of what had to be the most handsome man she had ever seen in her entire life. And he was staring right at her. She saw his lips move but couldn't make out what he was saying. The next thing she knew the man was in front of her pulling her towards him and was he growling? What the hell was going on? She didn't like being man-handled so at the same time John stepped up and yelled hey at the guy she pushed him away with all her strength. He took a few steps back although she was sure it was because he wanted to and not because she shoved him. The man was a solid wall of mass. Another guy came to stand next to him and whispered something in his ear before his eyes changed color. Wait, was that a trick of like or did his eyes actually change? She shook her head, she was losing it. Of course it was the lighting. "I'm sorry" he said in the deepest, most masculine, sexiest voice she had ever heard. "Yeah, my friend here has had one too many. We'll be on our way now." After what had to be the weirdest interaction she had ever had, and that was saying something coming from her. She shook the encounter off and got back to work. The nigh went by in a blur and she had made around 150 in tips mixing drinks. All in all it was a good night. But when she stepped outside she had the same feeling as before that someone was watching her but when she looked all around she didn't see anything.
