Chapter 15: Under the Sea!

“You look much better!” Rosina  said happily as she jumped up on to the rocky edge of the pool. Jamie could see her glow a soft blue.

“Yes, thanks to you and Bellus!” Jamie said swimming over.

“Those grumpy fire farts helped to!” Rosina said and Jamie chuckled.

“They were not so bad!” Jamie said with a smile

“Yeah right! My Pa says to never ask Dragons for anything! They more likely eat you then help!” Rosina declared flicking her tail. Jamie wished she could see the tail with her eyes, she bet it was beautiful.

“Well luckily I wasn’t!” Jamie said

“I am glad, you seem nice. Even if you do call lava golems!” Rosina said

“How do you know that?” Jamie said suprised

“We all felt it, everything in the world is connected. Ma said it is like one big tapestry made of many different colour threads. Only Father Light and Mother Universe can see the pattern, that is why we should trust them!” Rosina said happily.

“Your parents sound very wise” Jamie said

“They are!” Rosina said. There was another splash as Bellus  surfaced.

“You found her! You could have told me Rosina!” Bellus said sounding annoyed.

“And ruin your fun? Anyway you are here now!” Rosina said 

“Hello Bellus! Why are you looking for me?” Jamie asked seeing another soft blue figure. 

“We are suppose to  looking for you!” Bellus said still said annoyed,

“Ok why are you both looking for me?” Jamie said 

Bellus coughed and puffed his chest out a bit before saying in a posh voice “Moon child, it is my greatest honour and duty to invite you for dinner at our humble home”

Jamie desperately tried not to smile at Bellus formal approach, as she didn’t not want to hurt the young merman’s feelings. 

“I would love to, but I am afraid I can’t breath under water. I don’t think I could shift into a fish yet either!” Jamie said, making a mental note to get Dion to help her.

“Moon-child, do not fear! For I have in my possession a Mermaid’s purse” Bellus said dramatically.

“A Mermaid’s Purse?” Jamie questioned, she never heard of it.

Jamie felt another presence suddenly appear on the rocky outcrop.

“Demon!” Bellus and Rosina said fearfully.

“Oh it is only Lux and Loki! They are normally very friendly!” Jamie said

Loki seeing the Merchildren and sensing their unease, let Lux take over. He knew that Lux was much better at these sort of situations then he was.

“Please do not be scared of me, my name is Lux. It is my greatest honour to meet you both!”  Lux said with a low bow. This resulted in Rosina giggling.

“Oh I like him!’ Rosina said 

“You would!” Bellus said with an eye roll.

“Lux, can I introduce Rosina and Bellus, thanks to their help we managed to call the Sea Mares” Jamie said.

“Well we are very much in your debt” Lux said genuinely. In all his time being alive, he often noted that ot was the smallest act of kindness that made the biggest difference. The kindest that these Merchildren showed had in fact saved his friend’s life. 

“It was nothing! I know, why don’t you come for dinner as well?” Rosina suggested

“That sounds lovely!” Lux said with a smile.

“We have only got one Mermaid’s purse though!” Rosina said sadly 

“Do not worry Rosina, Loki and I can survive under water just fine” Lux said happily.

“You can?” Jamie said surprised

“Of course! All demons can, we don’t need air to the same extent that humans do. We can go without for long periods of time” Lux said simply with a shrug.

“How long can you hold your breath for?” Jamie asked curiously 

“Oh a couple of centuries, give or take” Lux said

“Huh, you learn something new everyday!” Jamie mused.

“Yes, like how to will a elemental creature into existence?” Lux said

“Yes, I suppose we are going to have one of those talks?” Jamie said sheepishly. Lux’s “talks” normally involved him ranting at her. She knew it was coming from a good place, but it always made her feel like Chaos.

“Nope the b***h deserved it. Just try and not weave without someone there, OK?” Lux said

“OK” Jamie said surprised

“I don’t mean to be rude, but can we please get going? Trust me, you don’t want to be late!” Bellus said 

“He is right, for a change. Give her the Mermaid’s purse then!” Rosina ordered. 

Jamie felt Bellus put something into her hand, it felt cold, soft and Slimy. “Err what do I with it?” She asked

“Eat it of course! Then you be able to breath underwater!” Rosina said 

“Are you sure?” Jamie said doubtfully 

“Yes, now hurry up!” Bellus said 

Jamie nodded and popped it into her mouth. She felt it explode and her mouth was suddenly filled with salty slime. Jamie forced herself to swallow it and she suddenly felt a warming sensation behind her ears. She touch the area and felt slits of skin.

“Are these?” Jamie asked

“Gills? Yes, don’t worry we have the antidote. But why anyone would to spend their life on land, I don’t know!” Rosina mused.

“Come on!” Bellus ordered as he grabbed Jamie’s had and with surprising strength pulled her over the wall into the sea. Jamie felt herself go under and naturally held her breath. She panicked as soon she was at the limit and was going to breath in water.

“Just breath and let your gills do the work” Rosina said as she swam around her gracefully. Jamie calmed down and took a deep breath. Instead of Choking, she felt the water go in and out of lungs with ease.

“This is incredible!” Jamie said after a few deep breaths. As she relaxed and breathed deeply she could see the threads begin to appear in her mind. The majority were sea blue, but there was some copper browns and whites too.

“I know!” Rosina said grabbing hold of Jamie’s hand. Rosina then started to swim at speed, dragging Jamie along after her. She could sense Bellus was doing the same to Lux. 

After 20 mins of speed swimming, Rosina and Bellus slowed down. Jamie could see in her mind’s eye a very giant structure glowing a soft blue. It pulsated with water elemental magic.

“Wow!” Jamie said

“You are telling me Princess!” Lux said in a impressed voice.  Jamie could not see the spectacular decorations made out of shells, gold and sea glass. Nor did she she the steady stream, of Merpeople and sea creatures going through the front castle gate.

“We are home, come on!” Rosina said as she dragged through the gate and down some corridors. Eventually they entered a large hall.

“Rosina and Bellus, you have returned!” A voice boomed

Jamie saw a large Merman growling blue with a golden outline. Next to him was a Mermaid, glowing the same colours. Jamie could feel the immense power rolling off them both.

“Erm Rosina, who are your parents?” Jamie asked quietly 

“Oh did I not mention, they are the King and Queen of the seas!” Rosina said happily 

“Of course they are!” Lux said standing next to Jamie.

“Well, I always said I need to meet new people!” Jamie said

“Welcome! We been waiting for you! But first let’s eat! ” The voice boomed again.
