Chapter 16: King and Queen

“No darling, we must introduce ourselves first!” A regal but friendly women’s voice said.

“Of course my Dear, how rude of me! You know me, I am always thinking of my stomach!” The male voice boomed.

“Come dear, let us introduce ourselves” The Regal women said and Jamie saw the two glowing figures move towards her.

“Your Majesties, I apologise for my appearance, I did not know that I would be coming here and meeting such important people” Jamie said with a bow of her head.

“Such a polite child!! But what do I expect from the Moon Child!” The women’s voice said.

“Jamie please, Your Majesty” Jamie said doing her best  to Curtsy underwater. It was difficult to say the least and Jamie felt as elegant as a hippopotamus. 

“None of that now! A friend of Nerida is a friend of ours. My name is Coralia and this is my husband Caspian“ Coralia said in a friendly tone. 

Jamie felt her hand been held by a big male one. Jamie felt her skin tingle as a swirl of warm water gently spread over her. 

“Ahh there you are Moon Child, I can see you now!  I am very pleased to meet you!” Caspian said happily.

“See me now?” Jamie asked confused.

“Yes, my husband was born blind, not that stops him from getting into trouble!” Coralia said

“But you can see me?” Jamie asked still confused.

“Yes! Pa uses water waves to map things, it is very effective” Bellus said trying to sound intelligent 

“You can  map your surroundings using water waves, almost like a bat with echo location” Lux mused

“Exactly my dear boy! Now who might you be? Caspian said

Lux smiled, it had been a while since he had been called a boy! 

“Apologies! May I introduce Lux and his demon Loki, they are my friends and advisors” Jamie said in a formal tone. Jamie swore she could here Lux puff out his chest a little bit more.

“A demon you say?” Caspian said as he grabbed Lux’s hand. Lux felt the tingle of tiny waves rippling over him as Caspian mapped him.

“I mean you nor your kingdom no harm” Lux said.

“Of course you don’t! As my Mother always said there is a little bit of chaos in all of us. I can attest to that, especially when you see my Daughter’s room!” Caspian said 

“Pa!” Rosina Said in a pained voice

Lux roared with laughter and Jamie smiled.

“There is no better pain then the embarrassment of teenagers by their parents!” Vanth mind linked happily.

“What? It is true is it not? Anyway you remind me of a young demon I once knew, what was his name? Ahh yes I remember now Barbaous, the demon of fear. Not as half as charming as you, may I add. Tried to scare my sweet Coralia, without realising Merfolk tend to just accept what life throws at them. We threw him out after we gave him a meal, we are not monsters of course” Caspian said

“Darling, why don’t we go to the dinning hall? We don’t want to upset the Cook again, especially when she has worked so hard!” Coralia said gently.

“Of course, of course! I heard there is sea buckthorn on the menu!” Caspian said as Coralia guided him.

“May I have the pleasure of guiding you Moon Child?” Bellus Said formally.

“Of course, that would be lovely” Jamie said. No sooner had she said the words then Bellus hooked her arm in his.

“Excellent! Come and I will show you the way” Bellus said 

“Be careful with her!” Lux warned. He could not help but be protective over her, she was after aLl his best friend’s mate and his friend.

“I know what I am doing” Bellus snapped

“I am sure you do” Jamie said soothingly as Bellus guided her to the hall. Soon they where at the table and Bellus made sure they were sat together.

“I think someone is sweet on you” Vanth mind linked in a sing song voice

“Nonsense! He is just been nice” Jamie replied as the first course was put in front of her.

“My word ..are these Sea Truffles Marina?” Caspian said happily 

“Of course My King, only the best for Moon Child” Marina said before swimming off.

“Sea Truffles?” Jamie asked

“A rare variety of Sea Vegetable, we are vegetarian I am afraid. It would be no good eating our subjects, not very good for political relations you see!” Caspian said with a chuckle.

Jamie smiled and reached out to try and find her knife and folk.

“Do you want me to feed you? I be more then happy to!” Bellus said sweetly.

“Not a chance!” Lux snapped as he placed the knife and folk in Jamie’s hands.

“I am not a baby!” Jamie muttered

“I must say Moon Child, I am rather pleased to have met you and your mate” Caspian said as he popped a Sea Truffle in his mouth.

“Errr he is not my mate” Jamie said as she popped a Sea Truffle in her mouth. It was warm and tasted peppery. It was extremely delicious!

“No? That is good” Bellus said happily 

“Idoit! Look at her neck, she has two mates!” Rosina said

“Two?” Bellus said weakly

“Yes, neither of them you want to mess with. Trust me” Lux said seriously.

“Two? By the Goddess you must have your hands full! I have trouble with this one!” Coralia said sympathetically.

“I think you will find they say the same thing about me!” Jamie said and Lux chuckled.

The chatting continued as the second course was brought out. It was a delightful grilled seaweed salad with Buckthorn berries that burst in the mouth when eaten.

“I never would believe that seaweed could taste so amazing!” Jamie said shocked

“It warms my heart to hear you say that Moon Child!” Marina said as she picked up the dishes. The final course was a sweet iced sherbet, made with a sharp sea berry that Jamie was unsure the name of.

“It is called Mermaid’s Pearl and it is lovely and sweet” Rosina said when Jamie asked.

“Well I hope you enjoyed your meal, because we have work to do!” Caspian suddenly said

“Work?” Jamie said confused again

“Yes my child, our Goddess came in a dream to me last night. She wants me to teach you to see with waves. Didn’t I tell you?” Caspian said

“No! But I can’t wait!” Jamie said excited for the first time in a long time.
