Chapter 22: Corporal forms

The training with the Weavers was hard to say the least. The first week Jamie spent being hit and was returning to her room black and blue. She hardly spoke to Dion and Lux in the evening, she just eat and slept.

At the end of the week, there had been little improvement, Even Ella the Earth user, who was known for being Easy going, was getting frustrated.

“It is like you want to be hit!” Ella, an Earth user said as she hit Jamie in the ribs.

“Ouch! If you haven’t noticed I am blind!” Jamie grumped.

“And so am I! YOU. NEED. TO. LISTEN!” Ella said as she swung a Jamie’s legs and making her fall on her back.

“I am listening, but you are like a cat!” Jamie groaned.

“Not to me, but your elements Jamie! You need to trust them more to guide you!” Ella said as she helped Jamie up before continuing. “They are an extension of yourself and they will protect you if you let them free”

“Let them free? I thought I had to control them?” Jamie said confused

“Did a Arcane user tell you that?” Ella scoffed 

“Why yes, Dion said it would be dangerous to let them go!” Jamie said 

“Our magic is based on emotion, not order. Our Arcane friends can’t let their magic go because it  would become chaotic and they would loose control of it. We don’t. You been constraining your elements, so when you do loose control the reaction is massive” Ella said kindly.

“I think I understand” Jamie said 

“Good. Now try it was one element! See if you can stop me hitting you with this staff and be warned I am not holding back!” Ella said

“Fire?” Jamie mind linked and she felt a warm ball of energy in her mind.

“Yes, friend of Hakan?” Fire asked

“Protect me” Jamie mindlinked 

“How?” Fire said confused, they normally had explicit instructions.

“I trust you to choose the right course of action” Jamie Mindlinked. Letting go was much harder then expected, somehow control had given her some sort of security.

“You are trusting me?” Fire said with a mixture of pride and joy.

“Yes, I am!” Jamie said

“Here I come!” Ella roared as she ran to attack. Jamie covered her head with her arms preparing for the attack. But it never came, Jamie looked up to saw  a hand made of fire holding the staff a couple of inches from her face in her mind’s eye. Jamie gasped and took a few steps back and saw it was not just an arm, but a large human body with wings coming out of it’s back.

“Fire?!” Jamie said shocked.

“You will not hurt her” the fire creature said as it set alight to the staff. Ella gasped and let it go as the staff quickly turned into ash. Another Earth user called on his element and threw some boulders at the creature. The creature stopped it with ease and proceeded to eat the rocks. 

“Thank you, I was hungry!” The creature said.

Jamie could feel her guardians shimmer in, along with Hagan, Dion and Lux.

“Is that a fire fairy? Dion exclaimed

“The Gods be praised it is! “Hagan said running over to have a closer look.

“I like you!” The Fire Fairy said.

“Can someone please explain what is happening? I sensed a great elemental power being freed!” Lux said shimmering in. He then saw the creature.

“A fire fairy? I have not seen one of those in a few thousand years, not since the last Chaos wars!” Lux exclaimed.

“Can someone please tell me what a fire fairy is?” Jamie asked

“It is very old magic! When a fire user is completely in balance with their element, the element can turn into their corporal form.  Most common are Phoenix’s and Fire salamanders, the rarest and most powerful is a fire fairy” Hagan said.

“Corporal?” Jamie said feeling confused.

“It means a bodily form, rather then a mind or spirt form Kitten” Dion explained gently.

“But he is still my element?” Jamie asked confused.

“Yes friend of Hakan, I am still fire. You trusted me and that was the final strand in the bond, I am now able to take on this corporal form” Fire said out loud

“Oh, I see. What can you do?” Jamie asked out loud.

“Many things. Like this!” Fire said and suddenly the whole island was covered in a Dome of red fire. It flashed in Jamie’s mind and for a second Jamie was scared at the immense display of power. 

“Do not be scared Moonchild, you called out to us on your first Birthday. We would never harm you” Fire said.

“Of course she is scared you absolute moron!” Her air element shouted, obviously annoyed. 

“Are you OK air?” Jamie asked.

“Trust me too!” Air said still sounding annoyed.

“Trust you too? Of course I trust you!” Jamie said soothingly. As soon as she said those words a there was a white shimmer. A large white  bird, with a blue head, gold claws and beak appeared. The bird also had very long tail feathers. Jamie was gasping at the bird’s beauty she saw in her mind.

“Air, you are beautiful!” Jamie said admiringly and she swore that the Bird’s chest puffed out a bit more.

Jamie felt a presence appear and knew it was the Queen. She bowed her head in respect.

“My goodness, it is a lightning bird!” Queen Gaia said as she walked over and bowed to the creature. The bird dropped it’s head allowing the Queen to pet her head.

“A lightning bird?” Dion asked 

“Yes Arcane Mage, a beautiful bird that controls the air, weather and skies” Queen Gaia said admiringly.

“Indeed let me show you a small portion of my power!” Air said as it jumped up into the sky.  It seemed to grow larger the higher she got. Suddenly, she hovered and flapped her wings. Black clouds formed and started to swirl round, like the start of a hurricane. Lightning suddenly filled the sky and struck a tree.

“Jamie!” Lux shouted as he let Loki take over. He grabbed her encasing his wings, the tree feel harmless to her side.

“Dam air, always so impulsive!” Loki moaned

“Thanks Loki!” Jamie said as she heard the bird land. 

“Apologies, I got carried away - but you were not in any real danger” Air said causally as she went back to be petted by the Queen. 

Loki just scoffed and said “Excuse me if I stay while the other two reveal themselves!”

“Other two?” Jamie said feeling over whelmed. She rubbed her head, it was all a bit too much and she had not anticipated this as all.

“Yes us!!” Water and Earth said in Unison 

“Ok, well one of you might as well go next!” Jamie said.

“I will” Earth said and suddenly there was a rubble. Every one was thrown to the ground as a rock giant formed from the ground. He towered above the tallest tree and and was completely black.

“A rock giant” Ella said shocked. She had read about such things but did not think she would actually sense one.

“Not just a rock giant, but a Obsidian one. My Grandfather said that they are the most battle hardy and can only be called by the most powerful of Earth mages” Queen Gaia said quietly.

“It is true” Earth boomed.

“Please, don’t show us your power” Jamie said nervously. Last thing she needed was an Earthquake hitting Zuy!

“Of course not, I do not need to prove my power, unlike some elements I know!” Earth said In a booming voice.

“Yeah right!” Fire muttered folding his arms.

“Now me!” Water said happily and there was a blue light. Suddenly, a blue light flashed and Jamie saw a  dragon. She had a very long body like a snake, with short  legs and surprisingly no wings. Not that stopped her zipping around. She was a pale blue and decided to coil herself round Jamie. Jamie instantly felt the cooling effect of water as she was healed.

“This is amazing!” Jamie said 

“It is amazing you can call them all at once! Are you not feeling tired?” Dion asked and Jamie shook her head.

“Well one thing is for certain, I am not hitting you with a staff again!” Ella said with a smile.
