Chapter 20 : Furō

Jamie came too in the Elemental Cottage Garden in the dream realm. Jamie’s brain tried to adjust to seeing so many wonderful colours again. She was so used to the darkness with occasional colours.

“I am not in the mood to be told off. I know I destroyed the stone circle and a hall roof, I am really sorry Terran and Nerida” Jamie said rubbing her temples.

“The only thing you need to apologise about is over using your power. You are still recovering from the soul burning!”  Nerida scolded gently

“Come on, she managed to call a lava golem! Will you guys just relax!” Hakan, the fire element said.

“I see the year of banishment is up!” Jamie said. Hakan had caused issues between her and Richard. His heart was in the right place, he just had a very weird way of showing it.

Hakan did a very masculine shrug and said “ I would do it again in a heart beat! But I am happy you are with those two, rather the that s**t Raoul!”

“Well that is something at least! So why am I here?”  Jamie said. Normally it was almost like a party, but the elements seemed very down. This was reflected in the garden. The colours were still vibrant, but seemed to be duller then normal somehow.

“No reason, we just wanted to see you. Especially as you are with our followers in Zuy” said Alizeh with a fake smile.

“Why don’t I believe you guys?” Jamie said 

“Because you have a suspicious nature” Hakan said with a smile.

“Kept me good so far!” Jamie retorted, returning his smile.

“Back to business, we saw what the chaos pool showed you. You must learn your lessons and get to Heaven’s Gate Harbour before mid summer” Terran said 

“But that is only three weeks away! I can barely tie a knot, never mind weave!” Jamie complained.

“ You will find it a lot easier now that you can use your mind’s eye more effectively” Alizeh said encouragingly.

“Plus you are a fast learner, you can wave see and use lava” Hakan said proudly.

“However, your breathing needs work. Your tutor was a right about that...at least” Terran said seriously. He had already had a word with his follower.

“I promise to work on that and try not to squash my teachers!” Jamie said with a sigh.

“Well that would be a good start!”  Alizeh said with a giggle.

A silver shimmer appeared on the ground in front of her, as Fluff had arrived to take her home.

“I hope you realise that I had to go under water to find you! Cursed Water!” Fluff said shivering

“You went under the sea for me? That is really sweet, though I didn’t know you could breath underwater “ Jamie said. She knew Fluff was like most cats and hated water.

“Just because I can, does mean I want to! Now come, I know that Lux and The Queen want you back” Fluff said.

“OK, well I know my next steps anyway! I love seeing you guys, I hope that I can spend longer here one day” Jamie said hopefully.

“That would be nice, before you go...pay attention to the lesson in water tomorrow” Nerida said softly as she gave Jamie a hug. 

“I will” Jamie said as she hugged the others. Fluff then did his normal trick of biting down on her finger and she disappeared as she woke up.

Fluff, unusually stayed behind. “You know you can’t do this again, she will catch on” Fluff said gently. 

Suddenly, Nerida and Alizeh started sobbing. The flowers in their garden started to wilt and die.

“Is there no other way?” Hakan said angrily and Fluff shook his head.

“Hasn’t she done enough? Why does she have to do this and this b***h gets away with everything? When will Father Light and Mother Universe step in?” Alizeh suddenly screamed 

“Alizeh, I surprised at you! You know we do not understand the plans Father Light and Mother Universe have!” Terran said softly.

Alizeh sniffed and said “I know, I know..I just wish we could help her” 

“You have helped more then you should already” Fluff said staring at Nerida.

“Don’t you be glaring at me, remember I know your Mother very well!” Nerida snapped.

“And with that I must say goodbye” Fluff said. He might be a God’s Child, but he didn’t have the strength to face the Goddess of the Cats. He quickly retreated back into the mortal realm.

“She be alright” Hakan said confidently.

Jamie had woken up back on land in Queen Gaia’s  place. Lux had said the King, Queen and the rest of the royal family had said goodbye. But, as Fluff said the Merpeople did not believe in farewells, they knew that they would all meet again. Jamie had the rest of the day to recuperate her energy and Jamie was grateful for it.

The next morning she was in class, it was almost like  been back at the Elemental Guard barracks. Today’s session was taken by  Arnav Wavewalker, the lead Water user.

“Good morning cadets, as part of your training you will learn about other elements. This will help foster trust between units and keep balance within the Queen’s army.”  Arnav Wavewalker said. She looked round the class, seeming to look into each one’s soul.

“Now the common belief that water users are soft, we are only good for healing. That on the battlefield we are good as back up, but that is about it, right?”  Arnav Wavewalker said gently. A few of the fire users look Smug and nodded their heads.

“You! Come down the front”  She said pointed to one of the fire users. The teenage boy got up and walked down with confidence.

“Name?”  Arnav Wavewalker said

“Trayvon Firestorm” Trayvon said with a smile.

“Firestorm? Your blood line is strong! A very old and powerful Fire user family!”  Arnav Wavewalker Said

“Yes Ma’am” Trayvon said

“Well OK Trayvon, this should be easy for you then. All I want you do is melt some ice”  Arnav Wavewalker said.

“Melt ice? That is as easy as lighting a candle!” Trayvon scoffed.

 Arnav Wavewalker smiled as she produce a long spike of ice that came up from the ground. Jamie looked at the ice and it was nothing like she had ever sensed. In her minds eye The ice was clear and almost had a blue glow.

Trayvon smiled as he got his element to to create a stream of fire. He blasted the ice spike with fire and he expected it to melt. However, it didn’t. Trayvon looked peeved and blasted it with more force. Again no melting happen.

“What is wrong Mr Firestorm, something wrong with your fire?”  Arnav Wavewalker Said innocently. 

“I don’t.....I don’t understand what is happening!” Trayvon said confused.

“The reason you can’t melt it is because it is Glacial ice. It is ice compacted extremely tightly. We can use it as spears, dart, shields and even armour, because it is Impenetrable even to chaos magic!”  Arnav Wavewalker Said as she indicated for Trayvon to sit.

“There is also one other thing that water users can do. Something that is rarely talked about and is seen as the ultimate act of bravery among our kind. Does anyone know what it is and why only water users can do it?”  Arnav Wavewalker asked

A young women who sat in front of Jamie put her hand up.

 Arnav Wavewalker smiled “ Ah Alisa Waterborne, please tell us”

“Yes Miss Wavewalker. The ultimate act that water users can make is Furō, which is when we move our powers to someone else. We can do it, because like the name suggests, water can flow” Alisa said with a smile.

“Very good. But this transferring of powers comes at a cost” Arnav

“Yes, it requires the sacrifice of your life. But the person who receives the power becomes almost untouchable as it is linked with the givers soul” Alisa said dutifully.

“Indeed, the Moon Goddess decreed that this ultimate showing of love for your fellow man, requires the ultimate sacrifice. It has only been twice  before, both in ancient wars” Arnav said.

After the session, Jamie went to the Library. She couldn’t get Furō out of her head for some reason.

“Can I help you child?” a familiar voice said

“Queen Gaia, you don’t have anything on Furō by any chance?” Jamie asked.
