Chapter 21: Forbidden knowledge

“Furō? Why in the Mortal Realm would you want to know about that?” Queen Gaia asked, pausing her knitting. She liked to hide in the library  and get some knitting done. Her court always wanted her to do something, and it was a good place to hide.

“Because Ner..” Jamie stopped. It probably was best if she kept the fact she spoke to the Elemental Goddess quite. “ I mean I just had a lesson and thought it would be interesting to research. I never heard of it before and no learning is useless right? I mean That is what Dion says!” Jamie said quickly trying to look innocent.

“Dion also says that you ramble when you are trying to hide something. Why do you want to know about the sacrificial spell?” Dion said from behind a book shelf.

Dam it! Jamie thought.

“Of course the book worm would be in the libary! Maybe it is a sign that you should not look into this” Vanth said.

“We are going to be facing enemies unknown, we need to be prepared for anything” Jamie said firmly.

“Not at the cost of your life!” Dion snapped

“Surely that would be up to me to decide? There is no greater honour then to lay your life down for your fellow warriors!” Jamie said firmly.

“No, it is not up to you to decide! Why are you so quick to throw your life away? Have your any idea what that would do to your mates?” Lux snapped as he shimmered into the library.

“Oh great!” Jamie snapped, she knew that the battle was lost. There was no way that Lux would allow her near a spell that had sacrifice in it!

“You are lucky I am here to protect you Jamie. You and the mortal realm!” Lux snapped

“What do you mean by that?” Jamie retorted 

“Meaning that you never seen Richard go full Amon” Lux said

“I seen Amon before !” Jamie said defensively and she folded her arms.

“You might have seen Amon before, but never the full extent of his powers. Amon is a high demon and his powers are immense” Lux explained.

“But....But...Amon has always seem so reasonable and..well sweet!” Jamie said confused. Memories of mating with him flashed through her mind. 

Lux threw his head back and roared with laughter. “Sweet?! You think Amon is sweet? He is the son of the demon of destruction. He has laid waste to cities and whole civilisations!” Lux said in a patronising tone.

“Careful Lux, don’t upset her” Loki mind linked. Loki new Lux could push it too far, especially when he thought he was being clever.

“I see” Jamie said quietly. He knew that Amon was a demon, but stupidly did not realised he had murdered so many people. How could he? Jamie thought.

“He is a demon, it is in his nature. Just like it is for you to control the elements” Vanth said

“But my ..my powers help people” Jamie said as she felt her Richard’s mate mark sting slightly.

“Ouch!” Jamie said rubbing it.

“You need to stop now, she is questioning their bond!” Loki said quickly.

“You must have know this was the case Princess. You are the bridge between the light and dark” Lux said softly.

“Yes, I suppose you are right. I just stupidly never thought of it!” Jamie said quietly.

“If he lost you, he would destroy everything, because it would destroy him” Lux said hugging her.

“I suppose so” She grumped.

“No suppose about it! Now, you need to go to your first proper lava user lesson. Make sure Miss Dune behaves!” Lux said. Jamie smiled and teleported herself to the training ground.

“That was not wise” Queen Gaia commented, still knitting.

“It is my job to protect her, you know what would happen if Amon lost it” Lux said.

“The Elemental Goddesses think she needs it” Queen Gaia pointed out

“I don’t care what those two think!” Lux snapped and teleported himself to somewhere more quite.

“Forgive him, your majesty. Lux is very protective over her, we all are” Dion said with a bow.

“You mean you males are? Don’t you think that whilst you are all busy trying to protect her, she will actually end up protecting all of you?” Queen Gaia said firmly

“I think your Majesty, that is what we are all afraid of!” Dion said, hoping the feeling in his stomach was wrong.

Jamie had been pleasantly surprised, Miss Dune had apologised about her rudeness towards her mates and they both decided to draw a line under it. Which was a good thing because Afra Dune and Hagan Firewell really put her through her paces.

“You are the first lava user in a 1000 years! I know the Earth God is very pleased” Afra Dune said.

“That is not true, you opened up a lava pit when the dream parasite attacked” Jamie pointed out.

“No I moved the rock to access the nearest lava flow. That is not the same thing as being able to move lava” Afra pointed out.

“Indeed. In order to move lava, you need to have the perfect balance of fire and earth. This harmony can be achieved by “ Hagan began to explain.

“By talking to them and asking them to work together?” Jamie said 

“Talking to them? I was going to say by total concentration breathing and willing them through mental strength. But I suppose talking to them could work” Hagan said rubbing the back of his neck. The Moon Child was a unique creature indeed.

The rest of the afternoon Jamie spent getting her fire and Earth elements to work in harmony. Jamie managed to call, shape and cool lava into a variety of shapes. For once her tutors were pleased with her progress and Jamie was looking forward to a warm shower when a squire told her to go to the Queen’s study.

Jamie sighed the Squire guided her to the room. The squire knocked and went in, announcing Jamie’s arrival.

“Very good, you may leave us Sefarina“ Queen Gaia said

“Sefarina?” Jamie said

“It means west wind” The Squire girl said

“Which means..” Jamie said

“Yes, I am a Air user” Sefarina said with a smile

“One of only 10 in Zuy, Sefarina is a true blessing” Queen Gaia said. The compliment made Sefarina blush as she left the room.

“Why are air users so rare?” Jamie suddenly asked as the Queen guided her to a seat.

“No body really knows, but it is said the Empress took offence to what the Air Goddess one day. The Empress then made it her mission to kill the ones blessed by the Air Goddess. The Air Goddess became so distressed, that she decided to only bless a small number” Queen Gaia said as she poured some tea and handed a cup to Jamie.

“Thank you” Jamie said

“You are welcome. How are King Caspian and his wife?” Queen Gaia asked

“Good thank you. But they are having to deal with more cases of Chaos pools every day. Why am I here, your Highness?” Jamie said

“You are astute. I am here to teach you what you want to know” Queen Gaia said.

“Really? Why?” Jamie said surprised

“Oh three main reasons. First, my Goddess told me I must in a dream last night. I am too old not to do what a Goddess asks. Second, I have a feeling that you are told to do a lot by males. I do not like that at the best of times. You are a strong warrior and should be treated as such” Queen Gaia explained calmly.

“I agree! I want to fight to protect my Friends and mates!” Jamie said firmly.

“I know Moon Child, your heart is true and your spirit is strong. The last reason is because here in Zuy, we believe there is no such thing as a forbidden knowledge. To forbid something just makes people want it more!” Queen Gaia said

Jamie felt a presence suddenly appear. “Just make sure Fluff and Amaethon do not find out, they would not approve” Windsoul said like it was completely natural for a horse to appear in the middle of the study.

“Do not worry my dear, this will be our little secret!” Queen Gaia said with a smile.
