Chapter 4: shapeshifters

Scarlett's POV (edited)

"Lynn, he asked me if I am a white wolf." I said and her eyes widened.

"What? And what did you say?" She asked looking worriedly.

"I was cut off by the beta luckily." I sighed and she looked at me with her warm brown eyes that always calmed me down.

"Scarlett! He is your mate. He has to know. You will spend eternity with him." She frowned.

"I know, but even if he were my mate, I can't trust him soon enough." I shrugged.

"He is the alpha king for god's sake!" She rolled her eyes.

"That's the problem Lynn. He can get rid of me and no one will question him!" I was irritated by now.

"Scarlett, I don't think that what happened to the alpha king and the Luna queen 100 years ago will repeat itself now." She has a point but I will not admit it, plus I can not tell him right away.

"How do you know?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You are unbelievable! Scarlett, if we do not find Blade, the mood goddess's son, the whole werewolf kind will be extinct. Do you know how dangerous that is to us? You basically are our savior." She spoke in a warm voice.

"I need time Lynn, please understand me. I know you want what's best for me, this is the best for now." I smiled weakly at her.

"We don't have time. But I don't want to feel like I am pressuring you in any way." She hugged me as we faced the lake we were sitting next to.

100 years ago, the alpha king at that time, was a black wolf just like Jacob now. His mate, the Luna queen, was an omega, but she was a white wolf. After finding her, the alpha king knew right away that she is a white wolf, that's why he bred her. While she was pregnant, he said that they can't hold the ceremony to find Blade and complete the prophecy, because the baby could get hurt, or worse, be killed by the power that will surge through both of them.

Their lives in the 5 months, the duration of the werewolf pregnancy, was filled with love and respect from both sides. Then, on one night, the Luna queen's water broke, and she gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby boy. The future alpha king. The kingdom celebrated his birth and the alpha king announced that his wife, and mate, is a white wolf, and that they will complete the prophecy and find Blade.

The next morning, the Luna queen was found dead mysteriously. some rumors said that the pack members killed her. Other rumors said that the alpha king himself killed her after she gave him a son, an heir, because no one could enter their room.

"Scarlett!" I turned around to see Cole.

"Alpha!" I said with respect lowering my head slightly.

"Come with me." He ordered. I looked at Lynn and she shrugged.

"Alpha, is everything okay?" I asked him and he stopped.

"Everything is fine. Just follow me." Cole had an evil glint in his eyes and I shivered. He was acting weirdly.

"You are acting strangely. Did anything happen? Is Megan okay?"

"Megan?" He asked raising an eyebrow. "Oh she is fine. do not worry." He turned around abruptly.

"Listen Cole. You are my future alpha and all, but I can not go with you while you are acting sus." I stopped walking again, ready to walk in the opposite direction.

"Scarlett stop." An inhuman voice said. I looked at Cole, and saw that his eyes were red.

"Believe me Cole, I will fight you, Alpha or not." I snarled baring my teeth.

"That would be just amazing." He said smirking, his face turning pale, and his teeth yellow.

He suddenly jumped on me aiming for my neck. I dodged him, since thankfully, I have quick reflexes.

"Are you out of your mind?" I screamed.

I hit him on the face and he retreated backward. Then he tried to mimic me, but I swung my foot under his legs and he fell on his back.

"I don't want to hurt you Cole. Plus you are pretty weak considering all the trainings you did in those past years, alpha ." I smirked.

He stood up and walked towards me, until suddenly a bullet penetrated his chest.

"NO!" I screamed hovering over him.

As much as I hate him right now, he is still the future alpha of the Red Moon pack, and Meg's mate.

I looked behind me to see who shot him, I was met with hazel eyes.

"C-Cole? B-But you were here and-" I looked at the dead body on the floor, to see a hideous creature, all black with horns.

"Scarlett are you okay?" He asked running until he was straight in front of me. He inspected my face, making sure that I am alright.

"I'm fine." I breathed a sigh in relief.

My heart started beating faster than before as the smell of strawberry, lemon and cinnamon hit my nose.

"Mate!" A voice called me. A voice that sounded like it belongs to an inhuman creature, a beast.

"I'm alright." I choked out, looking at him.

His eyes were pitch black, he had no emotion on his face, but you could tell that he is furious. He glanced at the body on the floor, and his anger doubled.

"Jac-" I was cut off by a flying hand.

My mate was tearing the creature's body apart growling loudly. All the members of the blue moon pack present here took a step back, looking at the floor. But no one showed fear. It was a gesture of respect.

The beast was unleashed. The beast we always heard about, was in front of me.

"Scarlett." My mate was back to normal when he saw the fear in his eyes.

"I'm fine." I said still not being able to think straight.

"I know." He stepped towards me and held my face delicately in his hands.

"What was this?" I asked looking at the limbs. "Or what was a one piece?"

"It's a shapeshifter. He can transform into whatever person it wants. They are weak by deadly. One bite and you could die." Jacob explained glaring at the dead creature.

"I thought it was Cole." I said trying to ease my erratic heart.

"I know. He hurt my ego with his failed attempts in fighting." Cole rolled his eyes and I laughed.

"He did." I smiled.

"Thank you alpha Cole." Jacob said and instantly Cole bowed his head.

"It is my duty alpha. Scarlett is like a sister to me." Cole said in his professional voice.

"Everyone leave." Jacob said holding my hand in his. "You stay with me." He whispered.
