CHAPTER 26: DISRUPTION

Everyone was quiet inside the carriage. No one is breaking the silence. Kev is spaced out while looking outside the window. Yin is busy with the lotus flower he picked up earlier, playing with it using his wind power. Master Kenjie is scanning the people walking along the business area of the capital. His keen eyes are observing them through the window at the other side of the carriage. Maple's eyes are closed, meditating and feeling nature while the carriage is moving. "Where are you from?" Czarina broke the silence. "We hardly talked to you. You were just silent and alone all the time." "I-I'm from the region of Mire. Just from a small village there near the sea." Jed gave a half smile. "Living a simple life, totally different here." "That's the farthest region, almost at the boundary of the mainland." Master Kenjie placed his hand on his beard, thinking about something. He nodded. "Yes, that is right, Sir." "You can call me Master Ken—Ken." He is not yet used to his new name. "Have you noticed something weird or strange in your area? I mean... anything unusual?" Jed shook his head. "I did not notice anything. It's just a normal village since I was born. People are living a simple life. The capital is so much different from our village. It's peaceful and solemn there. Only a few people live in each village. It is not heavily crowded." "I'm pretty sure you know about the island of Nedostojan. It is just nearby Mire's sea port. Have you seen anyone from that island?" Master Kenjie wants to know about that region. That was supposed to be Ice's next region to investigate, but she did not return. "They are banned from the capital, Master, as far as I remember," Maple said. "Is it possible that they could cross the border and enter the mainland?" "Our world, Fantazija, is full of mysteries. Anything is possible, and the power of them could become weaker in time. One of the creators of the barrier has already passed away." He glanced at his new disciples. "The other side of the sea surrounding the Nedostojan Island, is the territory of the Voda Kingdom. We could never monitor the other side of the border because it is already outside of the jurisdiction of Zariste. It could be possible that they could make a way out to the other side, and pass through the red dessert—the long route to cross the border of Zariste and Vodka lands." "Master, I heard the Voda Kingdom also fought the Nedos because of the damages the war had done to other kingdoms. Is it true?" Kev asked. "Yes, but the king of Voda Kingdom now is neutral about the past. All kingdoms in fantazija gather yearly during tournaments. We will know once it starts again in six months." "Tournaments?" Czarina's head tilted, wondering about the tournament. "What kind of tournament is this?" "It is the national tournament where only the strongest can participate, and death in the ring is excused." Master Kenjie observed Czarina's expression. She was not scared or shocked about what he said. "Are you interested in joining the tournament?" "If I am strong enough, why not." She grinned. "The prizes for the top three winners would be huge enough to be wealthy all your life." Master Kenjie laughed. "You need to learn a lot and bring out your potential as a Spirit Beast Master to join the tournament." Jed was just listening to their conversation. He hates it when other people think their people are evil. Their ancestral Nedos probably did something really awful in the past, but things have changed now. The people he met in Nedos are kind. He closed his fist to control his emotions. Czarina and the others were laughing when they felt the ground shaking. Their two horses were scared and made a noise. The carriage became unstable and shook them inside. "Whoa!" Yin almost fell on the floor but he used his power to float. "What is happening?!" "Is it an earthquake?" The ground shaking continued. Czarina peeked outside the window of the carriage. The shaking was so strong that it cracked some of the building's walls. "Look outside!" Maple moved closer to Czarina to see what was happening in the capital. her eyes became wider and her jaw dropped upon seeing the surroundings. Some buildings are collapsing and people are panicking. "They may need our help! Let's go down!" Czarina quickly opened the carriage door and ran towards the old lady who fell on the ground. A huge wood from the building's window is falling on her. The old lady just covered her head and waited for her death when Czarina, not thinking what power to use to protect the lady, raised her hand and thought of anything to save her. A thick icicle formed like an umbrella and covered the old lady. The wood fell on the ice umbrella and the woman was saved. "Oh my... I accidentally used my power!" she shouted in her head. "Did anyone see me?" She looked around to see if someone saw what she did, but everyone was in panic. Kev from her behind came closer. "Glad I was able to follow you on time." His arm is raised, pretending he used his power to help the lady. He winked at her. "Be careful next time," he whispered to her when he got closer. "Thank you." She felt relieved. "You saved my secret." "I am the prince of Zariste. It is my duty to protect my people," he said in a loud voice. The ground shaking stopped. They all looked around and saw the damage in the capital. The old lady bowed to Kev. "Thank you, Your Highness." Czarina helped her stand up. "Be careful along the way." The old lady walked slowly going to her stall to fix the fruits she was selling. "What was that earthquake all about?" Kev glanced at Jed who was just standing near the carriage, doing nothing. He is not comfortable having the new kid around, but he needs to treat him casually. "I will not let my guard down."
