My eyes opened wide to see none other than Professor Vale himself standing in the doorway with a menacing expression. I let go of the drawer and stood tall, my brain frantically trying to come up with a plausible reason as to what I was doing in here and why I was trying to go through his desk.
“I think I left my phone in your classroom earlier. Sorry, I was just hoping you had put it somewhere safe,” I said calmly, holding his piercing gaze. His jade eyes squinted slightly as he tried to decide if I was telling the truth. Slowly, he stepped inside the room and closed the door behind him. I swallowed hard and moved away from his desk, my whole body on high alert from that one action.
