Raiden POV (Playlist- I found by Amber Run)
“Here he is! The academy's new teacher of the year,” dad mocked as I walked into his office at the end of the day and grabbed a bag of blood from his fridge.
“Very funny,” I ripped open the bag with my teeth and guzzled back the contents.
“See… teaching is thirsty work. I have heard you are making quite an impression with your… unconventional approach to classes,” he smirked as he spun side to side on his leather swivel chair. I rolled my eyes as I flopped down on the seat I have always sat in when sent to his office. “I think you might have a natural gift for teaching you know, son. Half of the students seem to be scared to death of you and the other half love you so much they would do anything you asked. That is a winning combination right there.”
“You missed out the 10% that hate my guts,” I smiled, my fangs hanging over my bottom lip as my demon relished the blood offering I just gifted us. “They are my favourite and make this punishment less of a mundane chore.”
Dad shook his head with a smirk, his eyes glimmering with amusement. “I just got off the phone with your mum. Call her please, she is worrying about you.”
“I saw her last night!”
“Yes, but you know she likes to hear about your day. Just humour her please.”
“I am heading back to the castle in a moment so I will have dinner with her tonight. Are you coming back too?”
“Actually… I was wondering if you would stay here tonight? Your mum and I are having a date night and I know there is a full moon party the students are throwing by the lakes. I would feel better leaving someone I trusted here to oversee everything.”
I laughed loudly, “So you want me to spy on them? And you really trust I am the best member of staff to do it?” Had he forgotten that I was one of the students that first started up full moon parties in my teenage years?
“You are the perfect person to do it. And I don’t want you to spy, just keep an eye on things. Make sure nothing gets out of hand. You know the rules: no fights, magic or cliff diving.”
“Don’t you normally send Calli?”
“Yes, but I thought I’d give Neve a break. It can’t be easy having your mum join the party every time, no matter how much all the students love her.”
I sighed, running my large hands down my face, pulling my bottom lip down dramatically, which earned a chuckle from dad. “Fine. Go and have your date night. I will stick around.”
“Appreciate it, son.”
He stood up and patted my shoulder as he walked over to the mirror on his wall and ran his hand through his hair, checking it was perfectly in place. He still liked to always look his best for my mother.
“Oh dad, I wanted to check with you… that girl, Sienna Stone?”
“Yeah,” he replied, looking at me through the mirror.
“Is she alright? She didn’t make it to my classes today and I heard she overexerted herself in the Fae Masterclass. Do you still think it is a good idea to allow her in the advanced classes?”
A slow smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he turned to me. “Oh yes. She is more than fine. Her body just shut itself down because it was the first time it had used its full power. She belongs in the advanced classes. She is probably the most talented fae I have ever come across since…” He paused as a furious look appeared on his face. Even after all these years, he still couldn’t bear to say his name. The man that nearly succeeded in taking my sister from him.
“Caspian?” I answered for him and he nodded, moving briskly around his office, getting his paperwork in order before he left. “So we don’t need to worry about her not keeping up?”
“No. We don’t need to worry about that.”
I nodded and stood from my chair. “Right. I will go shower and get ready for this party then.”
His face relaxed again and he gave me a devilish grin, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do, son.”
“So, do whatever the f*ck I want? Cheers dad,” I scoffed and he winked. He knew I didn’t mess around with supernatural girls so he didn’t need to worry on that front. I was raised to treat everyone with respect until they didn’t show me any. Then I could put them in their place. That is how both my parents lived and my sister too. Family was everything to us. If you f****d with someone we loved, you f*cked with us all and there would be no mercy for you. But if you do right by us, we will stand by you always. For that reason, my family didn’t have many enemies. Well, none that were still alive.
Once I reached my practically empty room in the staff headquarters, I dove into the shower and washed away the stress of the day. Massaging my scalp with shampoo, I closed my eyes and allowed myself to get a little excited at the idea of attending tonight’s party. I thought my nights of full moon gatherings were long gone and, even though I wouldn’t be attending as a student but as a member of the faculty with responsibilities, I was still looking forward to it.
Pulling on a pair of ripped black jeans, a faded charcoal t-shirt that fit me perfectly, I left my hair to dry naturally, running a comb through it quickly before tidying up my short, well-groomed beard. Adding one of my long necklaces and a few steel rings from my extensive collection to complete the look, I glanced back in the mirror, before pulling on my bulky combat boots. Hopefully, I won’t have any reason to shift tonight because these f*ckers are a nightmare to get on and off.
Both my demon and Sirius seemed to be just as excited as me as I made my way out of the building towards the lakes. I had to push them back and pull down my mental block as it felt like they were having a constant battle to make their thoughts the most dominant in my mind, but neither seemed to have anything important to actually say.
I approached the chilled beach vibe music that was playing loudly from the wooden shack that stood in the centre of the man-made beach at the corner of the largest lake. It was crammed with bodies, some dancing, some stood chatting, some wading in the shallows of the tranquil waters and others sitting around small bonfires, all with a drink in hand.
“Hey man! Thanks for doing tonight’s shift,” Liam, one of our Vampire teachers, greeted me as I walked towards him.
“No problem. Everything looks pretty tame,” I said, my eyes scanning the crowd of supernaturals all having a good time. There was a relaxed and happy atmosphere, which made me relieved, so I couldn’t understand why I still felt so alert.
“Yea it is, although the night is still young. Some students have started to head for the cliffs, so that might need dealing with,” he nodded towards the rugged cliff tops that hung over the edge of the teardrop lake. It was always a spot that called to the daredevils and drunken fools. Me being one of them back in the day.
“No problem. I will head up there now.”
Taking the shortcut along the side of Wayward Wood to the top of the steep cliff, I could feel Sirius and my demon fighting with force against the barrier in my mind. Something had to be wrong for them to want to speak to me this badly. Just as I reached the flatter surface of ground where the trees thinned, I lowered the block to try and calm them the f*ck down. But there was no need. Suddenly, my world froze.
All at once, my feet became glued to the rocky earth, my senses went into overdrive and my heart started to accelerate in my chest. But despite all of this, my mind entered a moment of serenity and became still. Everything around me faded away and all I could see was her.
The silhouette of her heavenly body, toned and curved in all the right places in a pair of tight jeans and a black crop top that showed the tanned skin of her lower back. Fiery reddish-brown waves cascading down her slender back suddenly danced in the gentle breeze and my body came alive with the first intoxicating scent of her. The most warming and delicious smell of peaches and cinnamon instantly caused my mouth to water and reminisce about my mother's American peach cobbler she made for me as a child.
‘MATE,’ Sirius and my demon both exclaimed possessively in my mind and my heart did a somersault in my chest. I still hadn’t seen her face yet and time stood still as I prepared myself for the moment my life would change forever. The moment that would replay in my mind until I took my last breath in this life. When I see the face of the woman I am destined for.
As if sensing she wasn’t alone, she slowly looked over her shoulder, the brightest, most gorgeous amber eyes scanning her surroundings until they landed on me. Her lips parted and I heard a small intake of breath that stirred so much desire inside me, I had to refrain myself from lunging at her. Our eyes met and, for a moment, a flicker of confusion crossed her features as she became lost in the invisible storm that brewed between us. A slow smile spread across her stunning face and I had never seen beauty like it. Like her.
“Raiden Romano, the man with silver eyes. So, we finally meet,” she smiled sweetly, but I saw only fire and chaos in her eyes. She was a vixen who had me under her spell from the moment I heard my name on her lips. It took me a moment to comprehend the words she had actually spoken with her velvety voice and I blinked back at her, a little speechless that she knew who I was. But of course, she did. Everyone knew who I was.
Forcing my body under control and restraining my overexcited wolf and insatiable demon to the back of my mind, I concentrated on taking measured steps towards this enchanting woman. Her eyes flickered over me quickly and a glimpse of uncertainty passed over her dainty features before she masked it with unwavering confidence once again.
“You have been waiting for me?” My voice came out as a deep husk as I fought Sirius for control, but I felt nothing but delight at the thought of this. Little did she know, I had been looking for her my entire life.
“I guess you could say that,” she took one step back, closer to the edge of the cliff as I closed the distance between us. That is when I sensed that she wasn’t a vampire or a wolf. She was fae.
I paused, realising what this meant. She wouldn’t feel the true effect of the mate bond until I marked her. Did she even know we were mates? My mind was spinning a million miles a minute as I found it hard to focus on any thoughts other than how much I wanted to touch her…I needed her scent all over me. My pulse was wild.
“Wh- what are you doing?” her voice travelled over me like silk on skin as I let a little of my control slip and gripped her hips firmly in my muscular hands, pulling her into me. As soon as my fingers caressed her skin, tingles of electricity flowed through my fingers which made me feel dizzy and drunk with want. I buried my head into the crook of her neck where my mark would soon be and inhaled that sweet scent deeply, releasing a sensual groan as I exhaled.
“MATE,” I growled into her ear as I nibbled her earlobe with my sharp canines, tightening my grip on her body. Without warning, a burning sensation spread through my chest and I was flung backwards with a powerful force that smashed my back into a tree a few metres away. I grabbed at my chest to see my top was scorched and although my skin was already healing, the burn marks were still evident. My eyes widened as I looked back up at the woman who was breathing heavily and had a lethal expression on her beautiful face.
Confused was an understatement. I was f*cking bewildered!
“Sienna! Are you jumping or not?” A deep voice, that I recognised as that t**t Harrison, called down from the water below the cliff. Sienna? As in the girl whose name has plagued my mind all day. This is Sienna Stone. And she just refused me.
Our eyes locked once more and I stepped forward, arms reaching out for her when I saw the determination on her face.
“Stay back or I will jump,” she warned. I frowned, anger rising in me.
“You wouldn’t dare,” I growled. I had just found her. I wasn’t about to let her go or let her put herself in any danger.
She hesitated, looking over her shoulder at the black lake below and then back to me.
“Come on gorgeous! It's freezing in here! Hurry up or do you want me to come back up and hold your hand,” Harrison teased, without knowing what was transpiring on top of this cliff.
“Sienna…” My tone was a deep warning as I felt the irritation and jealousy boil within at that boy calling for my mate, my own hand outstretched for her to take.
And then I saw it. The devilish grin and defiance in her eyes. At the speed of light, she turned and raced to the edge of the cliff, catapulting herself off into the abyss. Using my vampire speed, I nearly had her but she was too quick. A few rocks and dirt barrelled down the cliff face after her as I skidded to a halt at the edge. Staring down at the dark depths, only the small ripple on the surface showed any sign of life. I waited with bated breath about to dive in after her when she broke through the surface with a smirk and a laugh. She glanced up at where I was standing, seething with anger.
“You’ll have to be quicker next time, Professor Romano,” she shouted and started to swim to the shore. I gritted my teeth and turned abruptly when I heard movement behind me. A group of students had made their way up to the top of the cliff.
“Get the f*ck back to the party now or you all have a month of detention with me!” I bellowed, allowing my eyes to glow the colour of steel and they all backed off, sprinting down the hill.
Fuck. I had finally found my mate and she was everything I dreamed she would be. Too bad she would rather jump off a cliff than be anywhere near me. I grabbed my hair in my hands as I felt a bubble of laughter threatening to erupt at the insanity of what just happened. She was feisty alright and perfect for me in every way. I have never been sure of anything in my life except her. Sienna Stone was everything I had ever wanted. Now, all I had to do was convince her too.
