They all said their good byes going to registration and to their first two lessons before break.
Autumn stood smoking waiting for Connor as Daniel approached her.
“Hey Red.”
She looked up at Dan. “Hey.”
He walked up to her lighting a cigarette, looking at her blowing the smoke out of his. “You shouldn’t have got in s**t for us babe.’
“Well I chose to, maybe I should’ve just walked.”
“May be.’ He said taking another drag blowing the smoke out of his mouth. “Look, Red, none of this is your fault Con had always been, well Con. he;s spontaneous and never thinks before he acts. He doesn’t give a s**t about school rules, but I guess you’ve gathered that by now?”
“Yeah I have.”
“Surely you’ve done dumb and reckless things in your past.”
“Yeah, I have.l She smiled slightly, with a glint of laughter. She’d got in a heap of trouble in her school in ten Netherlands she was called the fire cracker of their friendship group she was an esoteric and didn’t give much of a care of they got into trouble. Then their was her old school where her and her friends had disobeyed the one rules of the school that their were two areas for students one for then younger years and one for the older years and that’s when she’d met Taylor. Her smile faded. Of all those memories and waht had happeend before she changed schools.”
“You okay Red?”
“Yeah I’m fine.” She lied.
He smiled.
“Sorry I’m late babe the class got held up.” Connor said, approaching them. He took the cigarette off Autumn taking the last few drags. “Where’s the guys?”
“Here. Damn f*****g teacher.”
“Snap.”
They lit their cigarettes smoking them before the bell rang for end of break.
“So we’ll see you at lunch.”
“You will.”
They all went into lesson.
“What were you and dan talking about?”
“You.” She lied.
“Oh.”
“It’s nothing bad, Con, just about this morning.’’
“You’re not mad at me are you?”
“No why should I be?”
“No reason.”
They sat down taking their books and pens out. They walked out of lesson after the lunch bell rang getting their lunch sitting down to eat. Daniel looking over at her slyly.
“So are we all meeting up Saturday?”
“Yeah about six. I’m meeting Autumn first, then we’ll all meet up.”
“There’s a new movie I want to see we can all go.”
“Sure.”
“Dan you coming?”
“Wouldn’t miss it.”
“Sweet.”
They all went outside having a cigarette before registration and their last two lessons. Daniel sat next to Autumn during their next lesson together.
Autumn and Daniel had their next lesson together and walked down the corridor where he left her for their final lesson. “Guess I’ll see you in detention.”
“Guess you will.”
“Next time walk away Con won’t mind.” He said, winking departing her company.
She went into her final class of the day James tapped the chair next to him. She slipped into it. “Sorry about this morning Autumn.”
“Why is everyone apologising? I chose to stick around.”
“We also didn’t expect Con to do what he did, he seems different around you.”
“Is that good or bad?”
“Both good I a way he’s in school, but bad because he act different when he’s around you “
“Well he doesn’t have to, your all my friends. You shouldn’t have to change how you are for me..”
“Tell that to Con.”
“I will.”
He smiled as the tutor began their lesson. James and Autumn walked out of the class. “Come on we best get this detention over and done with.”
“Sure.”
They all up with Connor and the others. And went into the detention hall for their unfortunate detentionfor half an hour. They all finally walked out of school at four o’clock she was going to have a headache when she returned home.
“Well I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“Sure will babe.’ Connor said pecking her in the cheek.”
“Later Autumn.”
“Yeah later.”
They all walked away her and Dan making eye contact yet saying nothing.
She was right. Her mom flipped a mental and was very disappointed with her for being late into school when she had clearly left on time And hoped it wouldn’t be a re-accurence. She told her mother it wouldn’t he and she went to the river for some peace well so she hoped. His shadow dawned over her.
“I waited for you today where were you?”
She chose not to look up. “Detention.”
He sat next to her. “You had detention with my brother?” He asked shocked.
“Yeah all of us. Tragic.”
He smiled, laughing . “So what happened did he get caught smoking again?”
“No. Con he piped up to sour face and she gave us all detention.”
“I swear he never learns, mind you neither does Jae.” He said rapping his arm around her pulling her towards him. “You’re a bright girl Autumn, don’t let them drag you down with them your so much better than them.”
“But I’m not.”
He looked at her. “I find it hard to beleive you as a bad girl, Autumn.”
“I was.”
“Wow, please do tell.”
She wish she could all she was in the past was too much pain for her now. But she began anyway. “Me and my friends for my home town in the Netherlands were never out of trouble my mom didn’t like them much she thought that they were corrupting me truth was it was the other way round.”
He smiled this was a side he would have liked to have seen. “We were always in trouble I was almost expelled if it wasn’t for Winter I would have been.”
“Who’s Winter?”
She looked at him her mouth tightened.
“You can tell me I don’t care if he was one of your ex’s babe.”
“She almost felt laughing, but she didn’t.”
“He was my older brother, he always took care of me and looked out for me.”
“So where is he now?”
She clammed.
“It’s okay babe you don’t have to tell me.” He leaned over kissing forehead. “I know your struggling so tell me when your ready.”
But would she ever be?
28th November
Connor and Daniel had met Autumn by the bridge he dropped his arm over her shoulders and kissed her cheek. “Come on let’s make tracks.”
“Yeah let’s I feel like this is going to be a long day.” Daniel added.
And he was right the guys met us by the gates we could fell our principles eyes burning through us so we just walked through the gates and onto school as sh scowled at us. It didn’t seem to have any effect on Connor and the guys, I buried my head and we walked in. “Guess she hasn’t had any this morning.”
“Doubt she has any any morning by the loo on her face.”
They all laughed.
Connor slid his arm from round Autumn. “I’ll see you later babe.”
“Bye Con.”
“Later Autumn.”
“Yeah later, Red.”
“Yeah later.”
They continued down the corridor as I came upon Mr. Grayson’s office.
Mathew looked at Autumn. “Nice to see that you’re on time.”
“Aren't I always.”
He smiled. “Yes you are. Come in.”
She slipped into the room he closed the door. “I made us both a coffee, please take a seat.’
She sat down as he walked across the room.
He sat opposite her. “How are you today, Autumn?”
“Fine.”
“Good.” He breathed heavily. "I heard about yesterday.”
“Well that sour face b***h had it in for all of us”
He nodded his head. “So you’re still not finding it easy to fit in?”
“Not really connor and his friends are really cool..”
“I hear a but coming on.”
She looked at him nervously. “I just feel alone.”
He smiled. “You don’t have to Autumn you have friends though they get you into trouble?”
“I get my self into trouble” She corrected.
“I see.”
“You don’t have to feel alone Autumn myopic should never have to feel alone. You have your friends. And you have me.” He said, placing his hand on her hand.
“I know.” She sighed. “But I’ll still feel alone after everything that happened.”
She swallowed.
“It’s the past Autumn and the only way to go forward is talk about it , banish the demons and find yourself again so you can be truly happy again.”
“What if I can’t be happy again?”
“You will be.”
“I don’t know, I just feel alone. They all made me feel so alone.”
“Who did?”
The bell rang.
He slipped his hand off hers. “You’re stronger than you think you are Autumn.”
“I wish I was.”
“You are. Keep your head held high, you can face this. I’ll help you.”
“You promise.”
“I promise.” He looked at her. “We’ll talk more next week on this okay.”
“Okay.”
“You best be getting to your next lesson.”
“Thanks.”’
“No need to thank me that’s what I’m here for.”
She pulled herself up. “Bye Matt.”
“Autumn.”
